Marcus POV
I stare at the paperwork in front of me, but I don’t really see it. I haven’t slept much in two days since the disaster of a wedding. What a mess that was. Andrew has no idea the mess he made trying to take a chosen mate.
I snort at the thought. Chosen mates don’t feel the connection as a fated mate would. I know the difference now after scenting my own fated mate.
I close my eyes again thinking of Andra Wade. Everything about her called out to me. Her smell, her kissable plump lips that curved up like she had a secret to tell. The shinning humor of eyes I didn’t get much of a chance to see. The fiery red waves of her hair. Then that body, luscious curves that made my teeth ache to sink into.
I growl rumbling in my chest as a knock sounds at the door.
“Enter”, I snarl a bit as my sister comes walking into the office. She is my Beta and doesn’t flinch at the tone in my voice, but I never expected her to. She has always been a brave one.
“ You ready?” Scarlet asks me.
Her brown hair tied behind her head. She is dressed in pants suit today. We are going into the city to deal with the wedding fall out and to meet with Andrea. Scarlets hazel eyes so like mine assess me as she waits for my answer.
It has been a long few days dealing with all the problems my cousins brought on our pack. Today we are meeting with the Pine Ridge Pack about the situation. I’m not exactly sure how that will go. We also had to deal with all the vendors. Many were fine with getting paid for the services. We paid them in full just to make them not file a complaint against the James family or it’s Corporation for the breach of contract.
“She called.” Scarlet states. Making my body tense at her words. I look at her smirking face as she sits on the edge of my desk. Only my sister would get away with this, but only when it was just us. I arch an eyebrow at her waiting for her to go on. Scarlet and I have a very close bond. I shared everything with her. Many felt she shouldn’t be my Beta due to her gender, but she earned it with loyalty and trust. That and she could take down a wolf twice her size without a hair out of place.
“And,” I question when she doesn’t say anything.
She smirks at my tone, “She tried to cancel the meeting.”
“ And was she disappointed that it was not canceled?” I ask knowing my sister would not allow my fated mate to follow though.
“ She was not pleased.” She sated pursing her lips, “ She’s feisty and didn’t back down. I kinda like her.” She stated finally.
Me too. I though about her canceling the meeting.
“Did she say why she wanted to cancel?” I finally asked.
“Nope, just gave some excuse that she was unable to change her schedule.” Scarlet said looking at the paperwork on my desk. What did she have on her schedule that she could not cancel I wondered.
Scarlet looked at the file I had open on the corner of my desk. It was Andreas file. Everything about her and nothing at the same time. Her age, photo, business information, collage records, and some spotty employment history but that was it. Nothing about family, friends or boyfriends. Where she came from was a mystery. My wolf growls a bit at that last thought.
“Not much here.” Scarlet sates flipping though the file.
Yup, and that bothered me some. No one has a clear background. It’s like her life just started in the last 5 years. She didn’t have any friends but the one that lived in her apartment. She has no social media history either. It’s like she blew into existence. She has no real connection to anyone that my Gamma Henry could find. He was a damn good tracker but even he was scratching his head at this one and it pissed him off a bit. He always found something.
She has no one. She has us. My wolf states like it’s fact.
“Have you checked her apartment? Her neighbors?” Scarlet questioned and she frowns at the lack of information on my mate.
“Yes. Henry is there now looking for answers.”
She nods her head. “Good. He will find something.” She replied with confidence. I hoped so. We had so little to go on.
I looked at my watch an sigh. It was time to leave if we were going to meet with the other pack before I met my mate. We exit the house and load up into the two SUV’s.
We left with a few warriors heading into the city. I hated going into the city, but sometimes dealing with the human world was necessary.
The guards at the boundary bear their throats to us as we pass by leaving our territory. Our pack, the Silver Moon Pack boarders the city and has been run by my family for generations. It was established after the war. I’ve been Alpha for 4 years now. I took over after my father stepped down after I returned from training. All Alphas went to train at the supernatural council. It was part of the treaty between all races after the war. We agreed to work together to keep our races hidden from the humans for our survival. We lost so much in the wars, no one escaped it with out loss. Entire packs, covens, and even some races were lost forever. Kingdoms fell and we were never the same.
Now we work to never repeat the mistakes of the past. We do it with a uneasy truce, something that is harder and harder to honor.
I feel the tension stretching and straining my muscles as we pull up to my office building. My wolf hated the city. It smelled like sweat and exhaust. Everything about it clogged my senses.
No one says anything as we exit the car and walking inside. We go straight to the boardroom. I just want to get this crap over with. I notice both my cousins Adam and Andrew are inside with their parents Uncle Tim and his mate Cheryl. The brothers had been at each other throats since the wedding. I noticed their sister Sarah was absent. She was the one who started the fight once everything was revealed, literally. My wolf snickers at the memory of the feisty she-wolf. I was shocked she defended Andrew the way she did, but he was her twin. They were both top warriors in the pack.
“Alpha.” I hear as Adam begins to open his mouth to start an argument I’m sure. Scarlet growls cutting off what he is about to say and silences him with a glare. She is pissed about the whole situation and kept saying the bride Brittany Thomas was a mistake. But Andrew wouldn’t hear of it. I sit down in my chair at the end of the table as the others do too. No one meet my eyes as it should be. They all f****d up and disgraced our pack and name. They might have cost the treaty between Pine Ridge and Silver Moon Packs.
As few moments later Sarah came waltzing in with a smirk on her face. She bowed her dark head to me and took up a place at the wall as a warrior would. Her eyes not focused on anyone. I could feel the tension in them all as silence fills the room.
A few moments later the door is opened as the secretary announces everyone as Alpha Phillip Thomas enters with his mate and daughter Brittany and his son Blake.
“Alpha Phillip.” I state kindly as I stand from my seat offering him a hand shake. He shakes my hand and responds,” Alpha Marcus, thank you for in a meeting with us.”
We all sit down and I watch Sarah narrow her eyes at Brittany.
“ So we need to discuss the situation that happened at the wedding.” I stated getting right down to the problem. No since in ignoring the elephant in the room.
“ I agree,” Alpha Phillip states. I watch as he looks to his daughter who is looking at Adam across the table now. I could see the love in her eyes for him. Alpha Phillip I notice has no clue.
I’m about to point this out when Henry mind links me.
Alpha she’s gone! He stases panicked.
“WHAT!” I yell out loud. Causing everyone to jump as I stand up so quickly the chair goes into the wall.
