Chapter 8: The Story Behind Qiu Ze and Lin Xiao’s relationship gradually returned to its proper course. Although trust between them had been restored, Lin Xiao still hadn’t fully opened up her heart to him. Qiu Ze could sense her occasional silence, especially during moments she was unwilling to discuss. Those silent pauses seemed like deep wounds hidden in her heart. Despite her return filling Qiu Ze with hope, she still hadn’t shared everything she had experienced during her time away. One day, Qiu Ze decided to take the initiative and delve deeper into Lin Xiao’s past, especially the silent chapter she was reluctant to face. He knew that only when she was ready to confront everything could he truly enter her heart. That evening, they sat in their regular café, and Qiu Ze gently said, “Lin Xiao, I know there are many things you don’t want to talk about, and maybe you’re not ready to tell me. But if you’re willing, I hope you can tell me why you’ve always been so reluctant to face your past.” Lin Xiao quietly lowered her head, her fingers gently rubbing the edge of her cup. She remained silent for a long while, and Qiu Ze didn’t rush her. He knew she needed time. In that moment, everything around them seemed to disappear. It was just the two of them, sitting quietly, and the distance between them seemed suddenly vast. Finally, Lin Xiao looked up, a complex emotion flickering in her eyes. “Actually, I’ve always not wanted you to know these things because I was afraid they would become an obstacle between us. But since you’ve asked, maybe I can tell you something.” Qiu Ze didn’t interrupt her. He just quietly looked at her, patiently waiting for her to speak. Lin Xiao slowly began, “I once had a very painful relationship. It was my first time truly giving my heart to someone. The man was much older than me, a mature and composed artist. He cared for me deeply, and I thought I had found someone to rely on. But gradually, I realized I had become a burden to him. Every time he took me to meet his contacts, the stories behind it were always filled with complex emotions and interests. I started to realize that I wasn’t a true part of his life but just a decoration in his world.” Qiu Ze’s heart tightened slightly, but he didn’t interrupt her. He continued to listen patiently. Lin Xiao continued, “One day, I found out he had another woman. He told me it was just a business relationship, but I could feel that she was the one who truly mattered to him. I began to wonder if I was just expendable. I started to doubt myself, feeling like I wasn’t good enough, like I didn’t deserve a complete love.” As Qiu Ze listened to Lin Xiao’s story, his heart filled with a complex mix of emotions. He had never imagined that she carried such a heavy past. This past was not only about her disappointment in love but also the deep hurt she had experienced from people. “I decided to leave him,” Lin Xiao said in a calm tone. “But the relationship didn’t end as easily as I had imagined. After the breakup, I found myself drowning in pain, unable to escape. At that time, I didn’t know if I could ever believe in love again, and I started to doubt whether I would ever truly heal from that experience.” After hearing her story, Qiu Ze was filled with guilt and sympathy. He reached out and gently took her hand, his gaze tender. “Lin Xiao, I had no idea you had gone through such deep pain, but I want you to know, I’m willing to walk through all of this with you. I’ll be here, facing the past together, moving toward the future.” Lin Xiao looked at him, tears glistening in her eyes, but she held them back, refusing to let them fall. “Thank you, Qiu Ze. Actually, for all these years, I’ve been running from this past. I didn’t even dare to face it myself. It wasn’t until I met you that I realized I have the courage to believe again, to face the things that once hurt me.” Qiu Ze gently tightened his grip on her hand. “You don’t have to face all of this alone. I’ll be right here beside you.” Lin Xiao lowered her head, and after a moment of silence, she finally looked up at him, her eyes filled with determination. “I’ve decided not to run anymore. I’m willing to let the past stay in the past, to face myself, to face you. Our story may have had pain, but I believe the future will be a better beginning.” Qiu Ze felt a weight lift from his heart. He knew that Lin Xiao had truly opened her heart to him, and this had deepened their relationship. The pain of the past wouldn’t easily vanish, but both of them had decided not to let it dominate the road ahead. That evening, they sat there, wordlessly but filled with trust and commitment. The story behind them had been unveiled, but the future still held countless possibilities. They had decided to walk forward together, hand in hand, facing every challenge that lay ahead.
