Chapter 9: The Collision of Souls As time went on, the relationship between Qiu Ze and Lin Xiao deepened. After their long conversation, the rift between them gradually healed, and the long-lost trust began to rebuild. Although Lin Xiao's past remained a hidden pain deep within her, she had started learning to face everything together with Qiu Ze. In turn, Qiu Ze had come to understand her fragility and resilience. They were no longer strangers to each other, but had truly entered one another’s worlds. However, despite the growing intimacy in their relationship, Qiu Ze couldn’t help but feel that there were still things Lin Xiao hadn’t said. Occasionally, a complex emotion would flicker in her eyes, as if there were untold secrets buried in her heart. Whenever Qiu Ze tried to probe, she would skillfully change the subject, maintaining a subtle distance. This left him feeling both confused and uneasy. One day, while busy at work, Qiu Ze received a call from Lin Xiao. Her voice was a bit hurried. “Qiu Ze, there’s something I need to talk to you about. Can we meet?” His heart skipped a beat. Although they had shared many deep conversations before, something in Lin Xiao’s tone made him sense that this time was different. He quickly set aside his work and agreed, “Okay, I’ll come right over.” They arranged to meet at a quiet little restaurant. When Qiu Ze arrived on time, he saw Lin Xiao sitting in a corner with a serious expression. She wore a dark coat, her face devoid of her usual smile, and her eyes held an indescribable worry. Qiu Ze walked over, sat down, and didn’t rush to speak. Instead, he quietly watched her, waiting for her to begin. Lin Xiao took a deep breath and finally spoke, “Qiu Ze, I’ve never fully explained some things to you. I’m not as strong as you think. The pain from my past has always been deeply etched in my heart.” Her voice was low and slow, as if she were searching for a way to express herself. Qiu Ze didn’t interrupt her, patiently waiting for her to continue. Lin Xiao looked down at the table, as if lost in memory. “I once had a profound failure. It wasn’t just the breakup, but there were many pressures in my life. My family, my career, my emotions... everything seemed to collapse at that time. I thought I could walk out of that disaster, but in reality, I’ve been running away, too afraid to face the fear and pain in my heart.” Qiu Ze could feel the heaviness in her voice, and those past wounds still lingered within her, not fully healed. Lin Xiao paused, her gaze becoming more determined. “I’m afraid of failure. I’m afraid of falling back into that kind of pain where I can’t get out. I didn’t want to fall into that abyss again, so I kept my distance. Even in front of you, I pretended to be fearless. I thought that was the only way I could protect myself.” Qiu Ze’s heart tightened. He now understood that Lin Xiao wasn’t just cold. Behind the strength she showed, there was a great deal of unspoken pain. He gently took her hand, his gaze soft. “Lin Xiao, you don’t have to pretend to be strong anymore. No matter how afraid you are of failure, I’m willing to face it with you. I won’t let you carry all this alone.” Lin Xiao’s eyes trembled slightly, as if Qiu Ze’s words had touched something deep inside her. She took a deep breath and continued, “I know you’ve always been giving for me, but I also know I can’t keep relying on you. You’re such an exceptional person, and you deserve a better future. And I…” Qiu Ze interrupted her, his tone firm, “You are my future, Lin Xiao. I’ve made up my mind. No matter what happens, I will stand by your side. You don’t have to carry everything on your own. We can walk forward together.” Lin Xiao was stunned, as if she had understood something in an instant. Her eyes filled with tears, but she lowered her head and whispered, “You’re always so determined, always willing to give so much for me. But I don’t want to become a burden to you. I’m afraid that if I can’t overcome the fear inside me, our relationship will become fragile.” Qiu Ze gently held her shoulder, his gaze sincere. “Lin Xiao, you have never been a burden. You are the most precious thing in my life. I’m willing to face all the difficulties with you, including the fear inside you. Nothing can separate us unless you choose to leave me. And I know, you won’t.” Their gazes met in the air, and in that moment, they finally stopped hiding their fears and insecurities. Their hearts collided and merged. Lin Xiao’s eyes were filled with emotion and relief. She finally realized that she wasn’t alone—she had someone who was willing to carry all the burdens with her. “I’m willing to trust you, Qiu Ze,” Lin Xiao said softly, her eyes shining with warmth. “Maybe I’ve never truly let go of the past, but in front of you, I’m willing to try.” Qiu Ze smiled and nodded, his gaze warm. “Then let’s walk forward together. No matter what the future holds, I’ll be with you to face it.” This time, the collision of their souls not only brought them a deeper understanding of each other but also made them more resolute in their belief that only by trusting each other could they walk hand in hand on the road ahead. The pain of the past, though difficult to erase completely, no longer had the power to dictate their future. They were ready to face everything together.
