Chapter SixThey had ridden on a little way when Thea paused and looked back. “There are – two soldiers behind us,” she whispered nervously to Nikōs. “I know,” he answered. “The Officer insisted that we were seen home safely and I have also arranged for them to take our saddles to be repaired.” He spoke lightly, but Thea had the idea that he was glad to see that the soldiers were there and they would be in no further danger from bandits as they made their way to the little house. She thought, although he did not say so, that Nikōs must be elated. The bandits who had been such a menace for so long in the mountains had at last been captured.
