Zagada was enjoying the peace passed down to them for years by their ancestors, when a tragedy hit the village. A couple was butchered with daggers by some fierce looking men in a close by village where they went for a business transaction. The husband, who was also badly injured, managed to carry his dead wife on the shoulder down to his village, Zagada. On reaching the village, he fell down and died after narrating what had just befell them. The news was brought to the village head who tried hard to calm his people down. The people were agitating for revenge to what was done to their fellow inhabitant. The village head promised to get down to the root of the situation after pacifying his people. Unknown to the Zagadans, two neighboring villages had joined force together to invade and take over their land. The drums of wars were fiercely lurking around to their ignorance. The village head sent two messengers to commune with the enemies who rose from nowhere but they were mercilessly beaten. They added to their vexation that Zagada was cruel to them in not allowing them to live among them. The village head of Zagada explained to them how they were also trying to curb over population in their land which can result to scarcity. His peaceful words stunk to them as they refused to give ears to them due to the blindness of their eyes by greed. They were already determined to take over the land and were not ready to go back on it. The Zagadans were not much of fighters because they have known peace for decades as passed down the years to them by their ancestors. But they wouldn’t just seat and do nothing. The village head mobilized the men of the land to prepare for a defense on their land.
The battle was set in array and the enemies rode with force against the Zagadans. Prior to this day of battle, the men of Zagada had gathered some weapon forged from sticks, metals and stones in order to defend their land. They set defense on their land borders as perfectly as they could. The enemies came close but were amazed about what they saw. There was no one around in the open. Confused by the dead silence, rain of stones began landing on them. They tried hard to resist the hits but couldn’t and had to withdraw. All attempts to invade the land proved vain. One of the village head from the enemy camp brought an idea of shooting arrows into the bushes and houses of the Zagadans. The idea was initially turned down by the other ruler but was later given a go ahead. The arrows were shot into the bushes and the houses around from a good distance outside the very compound of the Zagadans. Like a joke, the arrows that were shot into the bushes produced result against those shot into the houses. Men who were hiding in the bushes began to fall out and those severely injured came out and couldn’t hold the borders of the village. Discovering the well arranged plan by the Zagadans, the enemies took advantage of the porous border and invaded the north side of the land. That was when they discovered that the women and children were hidden there. As they captured them, the men had no option than to come out and surrender. The village head was brought by the men of the enemy village and one of the rulers from the enemy village held him by the throat and sliced it with a sharp knife, killing him. The Zagadans began to experience a different phase of life as they were not use to wars for a very long time.
During the days of their great ancestor, Gadaski, he only had to contend with mostly thieves who raided the roads leading to his village. That took five years after which they were permanently conquered. But as they were concerned, Gadaski and other ancestors who came after him, had peace and tranquility which brought neighboring villages to live with them. They married Zagada’s daughters and gave their daughters to marriage to the sons of Zagada. Everything went well and all respected one another. But this present generation turned out to take counsel from greed and wickedness.
