A New Beginning

Chapter 14 Gavin’s pov I can only imagine what life was like for Deran over the last eighteen years. Now that I have a mate, I don’t know if I could live without her. I truly don’t know if I’m strong enough to live if I didn’t have Balinda. To never be able to see her smiling face or never touch her silky skin. To know what it is like to have her in my arms and know that I could no longer have that. I watched her hug her father and then I held her in my arms as we watched him leave. I didn’t say anything, there was nothing for me to say to make it better. All I could offer her was my love. She stayed close long after her dad was no longer in sight. “Let's go take a walk?” She said. I grabbed her hand and let her lead the way. I had a feeling that we were going out to the spot that I had met her yesterday. The way the vegetation had grown, I could tell that someone had been there often. We stayed silent as we walked. I don’t know all of her moods or tells, but I’m guessing that she is trying to process everything. Whatever information her dad told her two days ago, finding her mate, and now her father is gone from her life. That’s a lot for anybody to handle, but for someone who obviously feels as deeply as this woman does, it must hurt deeper. We made it out to the spot by the river and she led me to an area where I’m sure was her and her dad’s spot. We never stopped touching, but I felt the need to hold her close. I fought it for a few moments, trying hard not to smother her or scare her off. Eventually, I gave in and sat with her up on my lap. She snuggled into me and breathed in my scent. “Where will we live?” I heard her ask quietly. “Well, I was thinking last night that we could build our own house. Maybe somewhere between your dad’s house and my parent’s house. Now, I’m thinking maybe we should live at your dad’s house. Where do you want to live?” I’m willing to do whatever she wants, whatever will make her happy. She thought for a few moments and giggled a little bit, “I really like both ideas.” I smiled at her, “Well, we don’t have to make a decision right now. Why don’t we stay at your home for now and think on it?” She smiled and nodded, “Okay.” She was quiet for a few moments. “I want to continue with the carpentry business that dad started. I really enjoy it and it will keep me busy while you’re working.” “I hope you will sleep a little while I’m on patrol, but I understand that you need to have something that you love to do.” I said. I gathered that she had been awake all night, but I think that was a combination of several things on her mind. “We’ll see.” She reached up and pulled my face closer to hers and started to kiss me. I feel so incredibly lucky to have a mate such as her. She is so incredibly loving and genuinely sweet. I never could have imagined a woman like Bells. “Should we go talk to your parents today?” She asked. “No, today is for you and me. We’ll go see them tomorrow.” I answered, loving the way that she feels as my hands roamed her back. I saw a gleam come into her eyes and then one of them changed. Her left eye stayed her warm brown color, but the other changed to her wolf’s golden color. I thought that I saw this when I first met her, but I chalked it up to being a trick of the light. No other wolf I have met can do this, I’m not even really sure what this was. Then she spoke, but it was like it was mixed with another voice. “Come on.” And with that she jumps up and shifts into her wolf. She wants to play. Cade said, he's excited to meet his other half. He has never really played with wolves outside his family either. We immediately shifted, though it took us a little longer than it took her. She certainly has me curious, but my questions can wait. Right now our mate wants to play, and that is exactly what we will do. We played and chased each other for hours before we started back towards her spot by the river. It was about then that I realized that we didn't bring any extra clothes. I knew we could just stay in our wolf forms, but my mate has not made waiting for her easy. She certainly does love to tease my wolf and I. We got back to the river, but kept going, never stopping. I follow her, curious what she has up her sleeve. Eventually we reach the house and as she reaches the front steps, she shifts into her very naked human form. For a moment, Cade and I can only stare. “You coming?” She asked quietly. We shift and I slowly walk towards her. I'm not sure right now who is the prey and who is the predator. She reaches her hand out to mine and pulls me into the house and up the stairs.
