Chapter 8 Gavin’s pov As we walked, I could feel Balinda lean more into me, but when she couldn’t reply to me, I picked her up. She hadn’t said, but she must have shifted for the first time last night. I can’t believe she lasted as long as she did before falling asleep. My wolf, Cade, and I could smell her home, just a few more minutes and we’ll be there. I hope her dad will let me stay with her. When my parents explained the mate bond to me, they didn’t talk about having a hard time leaving your mate. That is to say that while you don’t want to, you’re not feeling pulled back to that person while apart. Just thinking about leaving creates that pull in my soul. After another twenty minutes, I’m walking up to the house she lives in with her father. Just as I step up to the door, her father opens it. He doesn’t say anything, but smiles at his daughter. He points upstairs and then goes out the door himself. Everyone knows of Deran The Hermit and his daughter, but he keeps to himself and in turn his daughter does too. To my knowledge, nobody has seen Belinda in five years, not since her mother abandoned them. While Deran is considered the most eligible bachelor in our pack, none of the women have been able to turn his head. He isn’t mean or impolite to anyone, but nobody seeks him out anymore to try and strike up conversation. Even our Alpha hasn’t been able to get much out of him. As I look for the stairs, it’s hard not to notice how bare the place is. I mean there are a few decorations and some pictures of Belinda throughout the years, but it isn’t homey. Though, you can tell that there is love here. I scent my way up to Balinda’s room and walk in. I head straight to the bed and lay my precious mate down onto it. I take a moment to look at her. Her brown hair was tied up in a bun, but there were a few pieces that had fallen out. Her skin was tan, like she spends most of her time outside in the sun. I look forward to learning everything about her and how to love her the best I can. Quietly, I took my shoes, socks, and shirt off and climbed onto the bed with her. There was a light blanket at the edge of the bed and I pulled it over us. No need to dirty up the sheets since neither of us are showered. She is perfect. My wolf, Cade, said. She is. I felt like there was more that he wanted to say, but wasn’t sure if he should. Cade, what is it? She was made for big things, Gavin. What do you mean? The moon goddess came to me before she gave me to you. She said that our mate is special. Of course she’s special, just look at her. We can feel how unique her spirit is. You’re right, but there is more to it. I don’t know what our future holds, but we have to protect Balinda and her wolf. Of course we will, Cade. I put the conversation aside for now. Right now I just want to take in my mate and rest with her.
