He's Ready

Chapter 11 Balinda’s pov Dinner went very well, we all had a great time. Jax and Casen continued to tease Gavin, but as long as we were touching, it rolled right off of him. My dad seemed to get along well with Trever and May, they chatted along the whole time. I linked Gavin, “Where are we going to stay tonight? Are you on shift tonight?” “I do have to work tonight, but I am off tomorrow night. I’ll come to you in the morning, okay?” He squeezed my hand. I nod slightly, disappointed that we have to part for the night. “Promise?” He kissed my hand, “I promise, baby. Nothing will keep me away.” He stood up and pulled me up with him and told everyone that we would be right back. There were some catcalls from his brothers, but I could tell that they were happy for their brother. Gavin led me up to what smelled like his bedroom. He shut the door and pushed me up against the door. I could tell that he didn’t want to part from me, but this couldn’t be helped. He kissed me, it was full of promise and hunger. Eventually he pulled away, only slightly. We didn’t say anything, just reveled in being close. All too soon, he pulled away to pack the bag he carries while on patrol. When he’s done he grabs clothes to change into and walks out to the hall bathroom. I sat on his bed while he waited and looked around. It was a nice room, but my mate definitely isn’t a clean freak. It’s not dirty exactly, but there were a few shirts and socks lying around. We should take one of his shirts to sleep with. Sarina said. I agreed, but before I could pick one up Gavin came walking in with his dirty clothes. I walked up to him and grabbed the shirt he had been wearing for the past several hours. “Sarina and I will sleep better with this.” I said quietly. He nodded and brought my lips to his for a kiss then we walked back downstairs. We walked to the front door and Gavin kissed me one more time before he walked out the door. I breathed in and out a few times to gain some composure before I turned back to everyone. Their eyes told me that they understood that this was hard. “Balinda, how about you help me get dessert ready?” She smiled at me as she stood. I nodded and followed her into the kitchen. “Dear, are you okay?” She asked and pulled me into a hug. I nodded, “I feel stupid, I miss him and he hasn’t even been gone 10 minutes.” She stroked my head and pulled back enough to look at me. “I have been blessed to be able to work side by side with Trever each day. When we do have to separate, I have to stay busy. That’s my advice. Stay busy, especially if you cannot sleep.” She briefly kissed my forehead and turned to the counter. She handed me a stack of plates and forks, then grabbed a chocolate marble cheesecake. We ate dessert and continued to chat. I learned that the cheesecake was made by Casen today at the pack house. It was his first solo cheesecake and the cook let him bring it home. “Casen, this is delicious!” I said after eating my second serving. He smiled, “Thanks, it took me a couple tries to get it right.” “If you ever have time to teach, I would like to learn more dishes. Nothing to fancy though.” I said eagerly. For lots of reasons, I think this would be a great idea. More dishes I can make for my mate and it will keep me busy. “I would be glad too. I’m sure mom would let us use her kitchen.” We look over to see what she says. “Of course you can, but you better clean up after yourselves.” She said sternly, but gave me a secret wink. Our evening wraps up so dad and I get ready to go. As we were saying goodbye, Trever grabbed a key off the wall. “Here, take Gavin’s truck. That way he’ll have it in the morning. His is the green one.” I looked at my dad. We only owned an old pickup and dad only ever used it to transport our finished work and pick up the materials that we needed. He never let me drive or go with him on his deliveries. We continued our goodbyes, Casen said that we would work out a time for him to teach me some dishes. May gave me one last hug, “We’ll visit again soon, Dear.” I nodded and followed my dad out to where we briefly saw some vehicles earlier. Daddy opened the driver door and motioned for me to climb in, so I did and scooted over. “They’re a nice family.” Dad said after he started heading home. “Yeah, they are.” I said, thinking of Gavin. I missed him. “Baby, I know that you found your mate sooner than we could have ever expected, but I know that you are ready and you’re going to be fine.” I know what he was saying. I had to remind myself that if it were me in his shoes, I would make the same decision. With this in mind, I was able to clear my mind. “When?” “Tomorrow.” He said quietly. “I know you need to do this, but I can't help but be sad at the same time. I love you, Daddy.” “I know you do, baby girl, and you know I love you.” He was quiet for a moment before going on. “I want to talk with Gavin more tomorrow and then I will leave quietly.” “You're just going to disappear?” I asked. I'm not sure what I was expecting. “Yeah, Thornton and I will shift into his wolf form and we will go somewhere quiet. I believe the moon goddess will make it painless.” I nodded, but moved so that I could wrap my arms around his right arm. I didn't want to let him go.
