Chapter 5
Balinda’s pov
Balinda? Love wake up.
“Dad, just a few more minutes.”
I’m not your dad, lady. I’m your wolf, Sarina.
“Huh?”
“Bells, it’s your wolf. She wants to meet you.” Dad said, chuckling. He shook my shoulder trying to rouse me.
You fell asleep, now wake up!
I felt a push of power and opened my eyes. I raised my eyebrow at my dad, but he wasn’t paying me any attention. I closed my eyes again to concentrate.
Did you just order me to wake up?
Yeah, well sort of. I just wanted to get your attention.
Well, you got it.
You’re moody aren’t you.
I’m sure if I ever wake you up while you’re sleeping you won’t be happy either.
Okay, okay, I hear you. But I’m so excited to finally be with you.
I felt bad now. I’ve been excited too and totally would have done the same thing if the roles were reversed.
I’ve been excited to meet you too, I’m sorry for being a grumpy butt.
You’re forgiven. I’m sorry that I couldn’t wait until morning to meet you.
Come on, we both know I would be mad if you had waited.
We laughed together. She could see into my mind as I could see into hers.
I see dad just shared with you about mom. How are you doing with all that information?
I’m sad, I feel like I’m grieving the loss of someone I never knew.
You are, and you’re allowed to do so.
I know, I guess. Sarina, what do you know about us being special or something?
I don’t know much more than you, just that whatever it is, only we can do it.
That’s helpful.
Yeah, I know right. The moon Goddess said that we would find out soon enough.
I could feel her rolling her eyes and I agreed with her sentiment.
Ready to shift, Bells?
You bet! What do I do?
So, like your dad, we can both be driving the wheel. This first time though, I think I should take over since you aren’t used to being on four legs.
I agreed and allowed her to come forward as my consciousness slipped back. After a moment, I heard clothes tearing and then we were on all fours.
Sarina looked up at dad and saw his shocked look.
“How did you do that?” He asked.
Now that I have my wolf, I can mind link other pack members.
So, I linked him. “Do what?”
“It usually takes a while to shift into your wolf, and it’s painful.” He said out loud. He definitely doesn’t get that I’m mind linking him yet.
Sarina walked up to him and pressed her body into our dads. Just like me, she likes being held by her dad. He pets her and then shifts into Thornton who is ecstatic to meet Sarina. They play for a while and then we take off running together. There is nothing like it. This is even better than me riding on Thornton’s back.
After a couple of hours, Sarina suggested that I try walking and see how it goes. I agree and find that I’m super clumsy. Thornton is sitting there just watching me, amused. I totally wish I could stick my tongue out at him. I settled for stomping our paw at him, not that it deterred him or anything.
We stayed out together all night. When the sun started coming up, we headed back to our spot by the river. When we got close though, I smelled something strange. Sarina and I stopped walking, c*****g our head. Thornton stopped to, squinting as though he could see through the brush.
Balinda, that’s our mate.
What???
There is a male over there and he is ours.
My heart was beating like crazy and I started breathing fast.
“Honey, calm down. It’s just one of the warriors on patrol.” Thornton told me over the mind like.
I shook our wolf head, “He isn’t just a warrior, daddy. Sarina says that’s our mate.”
Thornton growled, sounding annoyed. He didn’t say anything more but started walking forward.
Sarina gently came forward so we were together as she walked forward, following dad.
Sarina, are you scared?
No, but I know that you are. We will only take this one step at a time. Lets see what he looks like, find out what his name is.
I nodded, knowing that she understood.
We got to the last line of brush around our spot and before going through, Thornton looked back at us. He came and nuzzled us and then continued on.
Sarina gave me a moment to breathe one last deep breath, then walked us forward to see what our future held.
