Chapter 15
Belinda’s pov
Before leaving, we packed up most of the stuff in Gavin’s room. His mom said that she would bring the rest when she comes out for a visit. When we got home, we unloaded the truck and set everything in the living room for now. We weren’t sure where to put everything yet since we will be moving things around.
We’ll have to move dad’s furniture out of that room, maybe we can use it for our first baby’s room. Then it dawned on me.
“Come see the barn.” I said excitedly. I think it’s the only place that Gavin hasn’t seen, which is weird because it is my favorite place to be.
He laughed at my excitement and jogged over with me. I slid the door all the way open, I knew it would still smell heavily of the stain we used yesterday. While I like the different smells of wood, I can't stand the smell of stain.
“This is so cool.” He said as he walked around, looking at each instrument and table.
I glanced at the desk and noticed that it wasn’t the way I had left it yesterday. Walking closer, I realize that they are notes that my dad left. The names and contact information of his vendors, when he drops by for new orders, where he gets his materials. I began to get overwhelmed. How in the world was I supposed to run this business without him?
I could feel Sarina trying to offer me comfort and remind me that she is with me. Gavin also came over and held me.
“Baby, I’ll help you with whatever you need.” He nuzzled into my neck. He and Cade wouldn’t like me feeling vulnerable and unsure.
“I know you will, I’m wishing that my dad had taught me more about this side of the business. I’ve never been off pack lands, I’ve never met or spoken to any of these people. I don’t know what he charges for each item. I don’t even know how to drive.” My fear was quickly turning into frustration.
“We’ll figure it all out. My mom can teach you how to drive if you want to learn.” He paused, I could feel unease through our bond. “Baby, why did your dad keep you so isolated, even from the pack?”
I sat on the edge of the desk and faced him. “I told you most of the story earlier, but there are a couple of things that I left out. Not because I don’t think your family can’t be trusted, we think that everyone would be safer if nobody knows.” I hoped that he could feel the truth of my words. “My dad was an alpha of his own pack when he met my mom and her small pack. When she died, dad left. He said that he could no longer lead without his mate. The moon goddess came to him and told him that I am important, that there is something that only I can do. Sarina is convinced that their pack wasn’t randomly attacked.”
He was quiet, seemingly trying to process everything. He nodded slowly, “Alright, we keep all that information to ourselves for now. Nobody needs to know. Starting tomorrow, we will begin daily training sessions though. You and your wolf need to be able to protect yourselves. We’ll be extra careful, you can take on my last name. That will hide your lineage. Everyone knew who your dad was, but nobody has seen you since you were young. All we need to say is that you haven’t been to town in a while.”
I think he was talking to himself more than me, but I agreed with what he was saying. I smiled, he was adorable pacing around. His brow was scrunched up because he was concentrating so hard.
I reached my hand over to him so he would stop pacing and come to me. I smiled and put my arms around his neck, “We’re going to be fine.” I lightly kissed his lips, trying to relieve some of his stress.
He relaxed a little, “I know, but I want to make sure. I’m not strong like your dad, I don’t think Cade and I could make it without you.” His eyes watered and I pulled him to me.
“We will protect each other.” I held him close until I could feel him calm down. Sarina was whimpering in my mind, feeling their anxiety about loosing us. “Come on, Love. Let’s get some food before you go out on patrol.”
He nodded and held my hand as we walked out. As soon as I had locked up, he picked me up bridal style and carried me to the house. He smiled widely at me, but Sarina and I could tell that he was scared still.
She came forward so we could speak together. “We love you both, there is nothing that will take us from you. You are ours just as much as we are yours.” I could feel his soul settle after that.
We went inside and into the kitchen. I realized that dad never made it to the store for us, so there weren’t very many options.
“I’m sorry, I forgot that dad never made it to the store with my list. Pasta okay?” I asked as I grabbed the noodles and sauce.
“That sounds great. I’m going to go get ready for my patrol shift and be right back.” I nodded and he kissed my cheek before walking out of the kitchen.
I got the water heating up and then started daydreaming about the house. I was getting excited about all the things that we could do.
“Baby, the water is boiling.” Gavin all the sudden popped up in my field of vision.
“Sorry.” I smiled at him and put the noodles in.
“What were you thinking about? You feel joy over something.” He raised an eyebrow at me.
“I’m just thinking about the house. I want this to be our home. Some of the furniture I want to replace.” I kept talking, letting all of my thoughts come out.
When the pasta was done I set our plates on the table and we ate, though I still hadn’t stopped talking.
“Baby, whatever you want is great with me. I promise, I’ll be more help when you’re ready to tackle each area. For now, I need to get to work. I love you.” He kissed me soundly and walked out. I could feel that he didn’t want to. We both know that this is the way it has to be.
