Gasping for breath, Desa fell back against the wall of an alley. She placed a hand over her heart as she tried to fight off her fatigue. “Is it still out there?” she whispered. “Sweet Mercy, doesn’t that thing ever quit?” Kalia was at the mouth of the alley, peering around the corner. “It seems to have stopped for now,” she murmured. “I don’t know…” They had been running for over two hours, trying to get back to Tommy.
