CHAPTER THREE

The day of the annual alpha's visit had finally arrived, and the Midnight Claw Pack bustled with anticipation and preparation. Lucas, reluctantly accepting the presence of the Silvermoon Pack, had been informed by his Gamma, Liam, of their rivals' arrival.

"Liam," Lucas grumbled, his amber eyes narrowing, "I want you to keep a close eye on Alpha Aaron's pack during their stay. I won't tolerate any provocations."

Liam nodded, understanding the tension that existed between the two packs. "I'll make sure our security is at its highest, Alpha Lucas."

As the rival pack entered the Midnight Claw Pack's grand house, Sofia's heart raced with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. She had heard tales of Lucas, the formidable alpha, and knew of the tensions that simmered between their packs.

When she stepped inside, her emerald eyes widened as they landed on Lucas. Tall, commanding, and exuding raw power, he was a formidable presence. His obsidian hair and piercing amber eyes gave him an air of both danger and allure. Sofia's heart fluttered within her chest, and her wolf, Lima, stirred with recognition. "Mate mate mate" she chanted from within.

Lucas, on the other hand, greeted the newcomers with a cool detachment. He had no interest in finding a mate, believing such bonds to be weaknesses. But as he glanced at Sofia, his wolf, Lucian, roared to life within him, an insistent call to his mate. "Mate" he called out. "Go to mate," Lucian said, but Lucas suppressed him.

Sofia, her cheeks flushed with shyness, averted her gaze as Lucas's eyes hungrily roamed over her curves and face. The members of both packs who had witnessed the encounter exchanged envious glances, the power and intensity of a true mate bond unmistakable.

Alpha Aaron, perhaps the only one who understood the significance of the moment, smiled with genuine happiness at Sofia. He had always believed that she deserved a better life, away from the torment of her pack.

"Liam tells Bella to show them to their rooms and make sure they are comfortable."

"Good morning, and welcome to Midnight Claw Pack. I'm Bella the Female Beta and I'll show you to your rooms. Follow me, and feel free to ask me for whatever you need".

As the day unfolded, Alaric, having observed the undeniable connection between Lucas and Sofia, realized that his plans to mate with her were in jeopardy. He couldn't allow his desires to be thwarted.

That night, under the cloak of darkness, Alaric sought out Ethan, his confidant. "We need a plan, Ethan. We can't let Lucas claim Sofia as his mate."

Ethan nodded a devious glint in his eyes. "We'll need to create a rift between them, make Lucas see Sofia as a threat rather than a mate."

Alaric's lips curled into a wicked smile. "We'll do whatever it takes. Sofia belongs to me, and I won't let Lucas steal her away."

(Lucas's POV):

The night hung heavy around Lucas as he lay in his grand bed, the moon's silver glow painting a stark contrast to his brooding thoughts. Restlessness had overtaken him, his wolf Lucian pacing within, impatient and demanding. It was an agitation unlike any he had felt before, a gnawing ache that seemed to originate from a place deep within his soul.

Unable to resist the pull any longer, Lucas rose from his bed and donned a dark robe, the fabric whispering against his skin. He couldn't sleep, couldn't find peace, not until he had spoken to his mate.

With silent steps, he navigated the halls of the pack house, his senses heightened as he followed the scent trail that led to Sofia's room. The closer he got, the more acutely aware he became of her presence, a magnetic force that drew him in despite his determination to remain detached.

(Sofia's POV):

Inside her dimly lit room, Sofia sobbed quietly, her heart heavy with despair. The visit from the Midnight Claw Pack's alpha had shattered her hopes, leaving her feeling even more worthless than before. Her mate, Lucas, hadn't approached her since their initial meeting, and the silence between them was a crushing weight upon her chest.

She felt filthy, tainted by the cruel rumors and abuse that had plagued her life. Her dreams of finding love and acceptance seemed further out of reach than ever. As her tears fell silently onto her pillow, she couldn't help but wonder if her mate truly didn't want her, just like everyone else in her pack.

But then, a sound reached her ears—the soft, almost inaudible tread of footsteps approaching her door. Panic welled up within her, and she hastily wiped away her tears, her heart pounding.

And then he was there, framed in the doorway, his amber eyes locked onto hers. The silence that stretched between them was heavy, fraught with tension and unspoken words.

Finally, Lucas broke the silence, his voice cold and detached. "Sofia, I've come to talk."

Sofia's voice trembled as she replied, "I'm listening to Alpha Lucas. Do you wish to come inside the room?"

"No there's no need for that, I can say all I came to tell you from here". Lucas replied,

His gaze never wavered, his features etched in a mask of determination. "I won't deny the bond between us, but I want you to understand one thing. I will keep you in my pack to satisfy my wolf's desires, but I will have nothing to do with you beyond that. I don't believe in love or commitment. You will not be a weakness to me."

Sofia's heart sank further at his words, the finality of his decision crushing her spirit. She had hoped for acceptance and love, but instead, she was to be nothing more than a pawn in his game.

As Lucas turned to leave, Sofia couldn't hold back the tears that streamed down her cheeks. She felt broken, discarded, and utterly alone in a world that had never shown her kindness.

Lucas POV

I grabbed a fistful of her blonde hair. She bobbed her head up and down, taking me in her mouth and always trying her best to please me, being as submissive as she had been from the start.

This woman never failed to please me, and I was never dissatisfied with Sheila or her obedience when it came to s****l terms. But today....something was off.

It was not because of her. It was because of that damn burden I purchased from the auction. I f*****g hated her. I loathed everything about her.

I didn't need this mate bond, I did not need that woman in my life to stay powerful. She was only here for my pleasure and the damn beast within me that wouldn't remain calm without her presence around me.

After I saw her, she was the only person who'd been in my mind was Sofia. She was imprinted on my soul and gave me reasons to fear the outcome. I f*****g hated her.

I did not want the mate bond. I did not want her. She was just another object of weakness for me.

There was no way that I was going to feel anything for her. I was never going to get any feelings, it was meant to be like that.

Then why was she affecting me like that?

I couldn't let go of the blessing. I couldn't let go of it unless I was going to fall into a pitfall once again. Emotions were not meant for me. Sentiments only make people weak.

Letting out a frustrated groan, I pulled out from

Sheila's mouth and stood up from the couch.

Sheila: Alpha how was it?

Lucas: (fakes a grin) It was fantastic Sheila

Sheila: Can I call you baby?

Lucas :(shrugs) It’s just a name

Sheila: Baby I can do more, I’m caring, compassionate, submissive, and attractive. I hate to see you stressed. I could help run the pack activities.

Lucas: I do have a beta and gamma you are right.

Sheila: A woman’s touch is still needed. A feminine touch and ideas are required in management.

Lucas: You are not indirectly asking to be my Luna, right?

Sheila: I will take care of the pack. Everyone is used to me, it’s just a new role. If I ever found my mate, I would reject him.

Lucas stood up and picked up his shirt. Buttons up

Lucas: I have always told you s*x is all that is ever between us and will ever be.

On his way out, Lucas thought to himself that he could never make a woman as vain and as ambitious as Sheila. She would end up ruin hard work, hard work.

"Alpha, did I do anything wrong?" She looked at me, "No I'm not just feeling like it today."

With that, she left her room, and went far into the night. He later went back to his house after a while.
