The night was uneventful thanks to the fact Gabe was in her room Faith could take care of him and not disturb Kincade. When morning came, she decided it would be best if she didn’t come out of her room. Gabe was still sleeping so she’d just lie in bed her hope was Kincade would be gone by the time she got up. No such luck as there came a knock on her door, so she didn’t say anything hoping he’d go away.
“Faith are you awake,” he didn’t want to just go in, but he wanted to see Gabe before he left.
Gently opening the door, he walked in and saw Faith still sleeping going over to the bassinet and gently rubbed his hand over Gabe’s head. Leaning down he gave him a kiss on the forehead Faith saw this through half closed eyes, as she faked sleep. She wanted to jump up and throw herself into his arms for he was the sweetest man ever. He turned to look at her she closed her eyes tighter then heard him approach the bed. Running his knuckles down her cheek, he leaned down where he placed the softest of kisses on her parted lips then quietly left. Faith breathed a sigh of regret because really all she wanted to do was fall into his arms and make love. Her conscience screamed at her to stay away from him he’d been Julie’s and now he belongs to the blond woman who’s coming for dinner.
Kincade left for work knowing Faith hadn’t been asleep she was avoiding him because of what happened last night it’s amazing how she’s nothing like her sister. Julie had been a sweet lover where Faith will be fire and passion then there’s Christina who knew what she was doing very skilled but there was no fire. God, his feelings about things were all over the place, maybe Slade could help. His day went by rather smoothly and could leave early, also he avoid Christina all day.
Faith’s day went rather slow and uneventful she prepared a special dinner for their guest not wanting this woman to think she was after Kincade in any way. Even though that was how it looked if she continued to kiss him as she did yesterday. Her body was tingling all over just thinking about it why couldn’t she get control over her emotions and body. All she did know was she’d get ready for tonight and act as if nothing happened his girlfriend needed to know they weren’t doing anything other than taking care of Gabe. As the day, progressed Faith began to prepare for their guest setting the table in the dining room with Kincade’s special dinnerware and got Gabe ready then proceeded with herself.
Dressing carefully as not to attract too much attention to herself, she wore a simple black skirt and a cute sleeveless black blouse. Well not entirely, the sleeves split at the shoulders and hung down around her arms. A light dose of makeup finished it off as she decided not to wear jewelry in the hopes of warding off Kincade’s attention. She curled her hair but left it down so as not to show her neck he seemed to like it. Dinner consisted of broiled steak, mashed potatoes, and a nice rice dish, gravy for the potatoes and biscuits. To go with dinner a fine red wine she found in his cupboard of alcohol. Everything was ready for the guest, and she hoped things went well, however in her heart she knew it wouldn’t. The woman she’d briefly met was a selfish one and Gabe would be a problem for her.
Kincade walked into the club where Slade would be waiting and saw him talking to a cute blond server. He eased over to the table when the server saw him, she jumped up and headed off.
Slade looked over and saw his friend, “Damn Cade I almost had her number.”
Kincade took the seat across from him, “Then it’s a good thing I showed up when I did blonds, and you don’t mix.”
Slade chuckled, “To true my friend, to true.”
Another server came over and took Kincade’s order then moved off, “So Cade let’s talk.”
Kincade leaned back and sighed, “I don’t know what I’m going to do.”
Slade slipped a cigarette out of a gold case he kept in his suit pocket. Lighting it he took a couple of drags before saying, “About the baby.”
“No,” Kincade paused as the server brought him his scotch then left again.
“About Christina,” Slade blew out some smoke as he continued.
“No, yes, God I don’t know,” Kincade took a big swallow of his drink and let the heat burn down his throat.
“Spit it out already Cade,” Slade crushed his half-burnt cigarette out in the ashtray on the table sitting to his right.
“I love having my son never thought I’d ever want children. I mean being around Susan’s kids didn’t bother me and I loved it but never wanting any of my own but now I want a bushel of children.”
Slade shook his head in understanding, “Now this leaves you with what to do about Christina.”
Before answering Slade, he took the final drink of his scotch, “Yes, could she want to have children, but now that’s only the half of it.”
“The nanny,” Slade deduced.
Kincade rubbed his hand down his face, “The nanny, you know how I told you she was the woman who helped me out on Christmas. Well, it turns out she was cat woman at the Halloween party and the woman I kissed at the New Year’s Eve party.”
“Holy s**t, what are you going to do,” Slade asked.
“I don’t know yet but hopefully I’ll figure things out soon,” he looked at his watch and knew it was time to go, “Damn I have to run.”
Slade smiled, “If you need any help just call.”
Kincade stood, “I will,” they said their goodbyes and Kincade left.
Christina got herself ready for the dinner dressing very carefully she wanted to outshine the woman who’s inserted herself into Kincade’s life. Faith Summers was an incredibly beautiful woman she did some checking on her Christina always made sure she knew everything about people who could screw things up. This woman was squeaky clean and even worked at a magazine with a five-star rating. Her background was a little hazy, as she couldn’t find anything out about her parents or grandparents. There were only the two sisters and nothing else, which meant she would have to look somewhere else to find out more. For now, she needed to make everything look good tonight and then once they were married, she’d convince him to get rid of the brat. Putting on a short skirt one not to flashy then a top that was low cut to show off her cleavage. Christina put her platinum blond hair up in a French twist, which showed her elegant neck then put an expensive diamond necklace around it. To finish her look, she wore some expensive diamond earrings and plenty of makeup this should make the little tramp look like a bag woman next to her.
It was time driving over to Kincade’s townhouse she eagerly went to the door ringing the bell and waited for him to answer. Faith put Gabe down in his bassinet then the doorbell rang sighing knowing it would be Kincade’s girlfriend. Going to the door opening it and there stood Christina in all her blond glory, which made Faith sick. She wore a short skirt the color of red along with a low-cut red top that showed excessively too many breasts. She wore expensive jewelry and excessively too much makeup for Faith’s liking. Christina stared at the woman who implanted herself into Kincade’s life and wasn’t incredibly happy at what she saw.
Christina looked at Faith and realized she’d dressed herself down but even though she had she was still stunning. This pissed her off even more how could she compete with natural beauty.
“Hello,” Faith greeted her.
“Hello,” Christina replied.
“Come in Kincade isn’t home yet,” she moved aside to let Christina enter.
“Thanks, I’m Christina,” she walked past Faith.
“I’m Faith, Gabe’s aunt” she replied.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” they shook hands, but Faith felt her annoyance in the shake.
She took her into the sitting room, “I’ll grab us some drinks what you would like.”
“Some wine would be nice,” Christina sweetly said.
“Very good,” Faith turned and headed to the kitchen to get her wine but could feel the glare of eyes boring into her back.
She hoped by the end of the night Christina would understand she had no interest in Kincade other than he’s the Father of her nephew. Going into the kitchen, she poured wine into a glass then went back into the sitting room.
“Thank you,” Christina said as Faith handed her the wine, “Aren’t you going to have some.”
“I can’t I’m on medication for my injuries,” she answered politely.
“Of course, I forgot,” she remarked then took a small sip of the wine.
“I’m going to go finish dinner so when Kincade gets here we can eat. Feel free to do as you wish since you’re his girlfriend and you’ve been here many times.”
Christina smiled at her, “I’m glad we understand each other.”
Faith turned leaving the woman in the sitting room and suddenly was angry. How dare this woman talk to her like that even if she is Kincade’s girlfriend. Even though Faith kept telling herself, she wasn’t interested in him sexually. Entering the kitchen going over to the stove and proceeded to finish what needed done for them to eat. Gabe was still sleeping upstairs in his bassinet, which would give them time to finish dinner before Kincade insisted Christina meet him. He walked into the kitchen from his office and saw the object of his desire standing at the stove she looked good in her simple black outfit making his body ache to touch her. Slowly he made his way up behind her reaching around he pulled her against his body again, he noted how well she fit breathing in deeply. She smelt so good, and he was surprised she didn’t freak out when he grabbed her.
“Mm, you smell so good,” he said as he nuzzled her neck, which she thought she’d prevented with her hair down.
Faith hadn’t freaked out when he came up behind pulling her against his hard body. It was as if her body knew his so didn’t go stiff instead relaxed into him.
“Kincade you shouldn’t do this,” she scolded him.
“I know but you look and smell so good.”
“You’ve been drinking,” she pointed out.
“Yes, with a client,” he pushed her hair to the side and began kissing her neck.
She wanted so much too just enjoy the feeling but knew she couldn’t, “Kincade stop it,” she softly whispered.
“Why,” he softly asked.
“Because your girlfriend is in the other room,” she said.
This was like a splash of icy water to his libido, “Oh God I forgot.”
He released Faith then went to the sink where he splashed freezing water on his face. She wished she could forget the woman was here all together looking over at Kincade, he didn’t seem incredibly happy either. He couldn’t believe he’d forgotten Christina was here for dinner. When he walked in and saw Faith, he forgot about everything else because she was all he wanted. No one else at this point would do for him because she was all he could think about.
“Dinner is done, Christina’s in the sitting room drinking wine and Gabe is still asleep. I figure we can get dinner in before he wakes up then you can introduce him to her.”
She pulled the rest of dinner off the stove as he finished wiping his face off, “That sounds like a plan I’ll go say hello now.”
He left the kitchen reluctantly as he made his way to the room Christina was currently occupying. Entering he saw her sitting and my God what she wore was outrageous. Faith was dressed elegantly in her simple outfit where Christina looked like a hooker with her harsh makeup, short skirt, low cut top, and fancy jewelry.
“Kincade, there you are I began to think I was going to spend the whole evening with the nanny.”
She stood went over to him and seductively leaned into him and gave him a long kiss. He took the kiss but found it did nothing for him even as she moaned pretending, she was enjoying it he still felt nothing. Faith came in the room in time to see the couple engaged in a kiss but what caught her attention was how Kincade didn’t seem to be enjoying it.
Faith cleared her throat making the couple break apart whereas Kincade smiled at her while Christina glared, “Dinner is ready if we all would like to go into the dining room.”
“Great,” Kincade took Christina by the arm not missing the smug look she gave to Faith and escorted her into the dining room.
Faith followed slowly behind not wanting to do this anymore tonight but knew she had no choice. They all sat at the table, which was already set for them to begin eating. She poured wine for the other two but poured herself tea. The meal was good while conversation wasn’t, she listened to Christina brag about herself and then talk about her and Kincade’s future. Nowhere in the conversation was there even a single mention of Gabe, which worried Faith. When dinner was completed, Faith went upstairs to see if Gabe was awake, so they could introduce him to Christina.
“What do you think of her,” Kincade turned to look at Christina.
“She seems very nice and nothing like what I expected,” this was her response but inside she wasn’t happy because of the way he kept looking at Faith.
“See you have nothing to worry about,” he was smiling at her when Faith entered the room carrying Gabe.
“He was awake just lying there not making a sound,” she smiled down at him.
Christina was suddenly very uneasy, “He’s a good baby then,” she tried to sound happy about him.
Kincade stood going over and taking Gabe from Faith, “Yes he is, now hold out your arms,” he approached her with the baby.
She did reluctantly but hid her revulsion as he lay the baby in her arms however Faith didn’t miss a thing, “Christina this is Gabe.”
She looked down into the sweet baby’s face but didn’t get the warm fuzzy feelings most people got when holding a baby. Gabe must have sensed something wasn’t right and began to cry.
“Oh, I bet he’s hungry,” Kincade said.
“I’ll get him a bottle,” Faith said but he grabbed her first.
“I’ll get it for him,” leaving the room he went to get the bottle.
Christina had a look of complete pain on her face, and it was turning to irritation with the wailing baby in her arms, “Can you please take this thing.”
Faith wanted to punch her right there for saying what she had but knew Kincade would be furious. Reaching down she took Gabe from the woman’s arms and bounced him to try to hush him. He was slowly beginning to stop crying when Kincade walked back into the room.
“What’s going on,” he demanded when he saw Faith had Gabe instead of Christina.
“He wet his diaper, so Christina asked me if I’d like to change him before he was feed.”
Christina looked at her with a look that said thank you but was a question also, “I can take him up if you would like.”
Faith wanted to get out of the room, “I’ve got it you stay and visit with your guest.”
She took Gabe’s bottle from him before turning and leaving the room for the stairs but before she started up them, a voice spoke behind her, “Why.”
It was Christina asking her a question, “Because I’m not after him,” with that, she hobbled up the stairs with the baby and bottle, while using her cane.
Christina turned and went back into the room with Kincade, “Explain what just happened.”
Christina wasn’t convinced that Faith didn’t want Kincade, so she would make sure he thought horrible things about the woman, “I don’t know after you left the room, she just grabbed the baby from me saying she didn’t want me anywhere near her nephew.”
Kincade was suddenly angry and wanted to storm up there right now to ask what her problem was, “If you will excuse me, I’m going to talk to her.”
“No, can’t we spend some quiet time together before I have to leave,” she grabbed onto his arm.
He really didn’t want to spend any more time with Christina but knew he had no choice. They went downstairs into the family room where it was quiet, and they were alone. She tried to get warm and cozy with him by trying to kiss him, but he just didn’t seem in the mood.
“What’s wrong Kincade you always enjoy our intimacy.”
“I’m exhausted, it’s been a few long days maybe we should call it a night.”
Christina sighed but knew she wasn’t going to be able to change his mind, “Very well then I’ll see you this weekend.”
“Why this weekend,” he was confused.
She laughed, “For the Charity Ball silly.”
“Right, I forgot,” he really had forgotten he’d invited her to go with him to the Charity Ball.
They walked back upstairs to the front door where he swiftly kissed her goodnight before she left, and he closed the door. Now he was going upstairs and find out what, the hell Faith’s problem was. Faith changed Gabe’s diaper then quickly feed and burped him before laying him back down in his bassinet. She’d just changed into her silk nightgown and finished combing her hair when a loud knock came on her door.
“Come in,” she knew it was Kincade probably coming to tell her how good the evening had been.
Kincade entered the room seeing her standing by the mirror in the silk nightgown making him feel desire but needed to focus on why he was here, “What the hell is your problem.”
She glared at him and saw the fury in his usually wonderful violet eyes, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Why did you take Gabe from Christina and tell her to stay away from him,” he demanded.
Oh, so this was how Christina was going to play even after she told her she wasn’t interested in Kincade, “I did no such thing. After you left the room, Gabe was still unhappy she asked me to take the thing from her. She called Gabe a thing I tried to be nice and not tell you by just saying he had a dirty diaper. If you’re going to believe I’d act in such a way, then go right ahead.”
“I don’t think you would act that way it’s just what was said. I came here to ask you if it was true.”
Some of her anger left her body and she sighed heavily, “I’m tired I just want to go to sleep but I have to clean up downstairs.”
He went over to her and gently touched her cheek, “You sleep I’ll clean up some downstairs then we’ll finish the rest in the morning before we leave.”
“Thanks, but I can finish in the morning, so you can go to work,” she hesitantly smiled.
“I’m not going to work tomorrow we’re leaving,” he to smiled hesitantly.
“We’re going somewhere,” she was surprised.
“To my parent’s house,” he answered.
The look on her face was pure panic as she stared at him, “Your parent’s house, why.”
“I have a Charity Ball to attend on Sunday,” he explained.
She was still pale, but color was starting to come back, “Why don’t you just leave tomorrow, and I’ll stay here with Gabe.”
He chuckled, “I hadn’t figured on going early but now I want to introduce Gabe to my parents.”
“All right,” she sighed heavily.
“I’ll let you get some sleep while I go clean up the food at least,” he smiled at her and figured they were okay for the time being.
“Thank you, goodnight,” she said as he turned leaving the room.
