Chapter 5 He Protected Her

960 Words
The man's hand trembled around the gun, but he gritted his teeth and shouted, "Don’t make this harder than it already is! Someone's bought her life!" Claire’s mind went numb. Her life? Her ability to think was slipping away, her thoughts a jumbled mess. So, Lucien wasn’t lying to her?! Someone really wanted her dead?! But why? "I hate nonsense," Lucien cut him off. The moment he finished speaking, there were two muffled sounds, followed by the splattering of blood and the man's screams. The man holding the gun to Claire had fallen. Claire couldn't even scream, feeling as if her throat was being squeezed shut. Her blood felt frozen, and her body was paralyzed with fear. For the first time, she felt a bullet graze past her ear, and for the first time, blood splattered onto her. Her legs went weak, and she almost collapsed, but Lucien stepped forward, catching her in his arms. His long, calloused hands covered her eyes, and his deep voice whispered in her ear, "Don't look." His warm hands shielded Claire from the gruesome scene, and those two words struck her heart. At that moment, Lucien seemed like her guardian angel. Even though he was the source of all the danger. Claire's mind was in turmoil. She couldn't decipher what Lucien's gentleness meant. Was he just toying with her? Or did he genuinely want something from her? Lucien gave orders in Italian. "Clean here up. Leave no one behind." Then he led the still-trembling Claire away, as sharp gunshots echoed through the venue, ringing out one after another. Even in the elevator, Claire could still smell the scent of blood and couldn't help but feel nauseous. Lucien frowned but then noticed bloodstain on Claire's dress. He quickly realized it was her period. He took off his jacket, intending to wrap it around her waist. Instinctively, Claire pushed him away. She looked pale, and her hands wouldn't stop shaking. Regret flickered in Lucien's eyes. He should have been gentler. He stroked Claire's cheek. "You shouldn't have run off. Be good." Lucien's tone was much softer. Claire didn't move, allowing Lucien to tie his jacket around her waist to cover the bloodstain. She had realized it was her period, but the recent events had left her too dazed to process anything. Fighting back her fear, Claire asked, "If someone wants to kill me, why are you protecting me? Who sent you?" Maybe it was because of her period, but she felt particularly sensitive and fragile. Lucien shook his head. “No one can give me orders. I found you on my own.” But thinking about Claire’s resistance, his expression grew colder. “If you’d been more cooperative, he wouldn’t have threatened you.” Claire’s voice rose with frustration. “What’s going on here? Let me go! I don’t want to be involved anymore!” Whether someone wanted to kill her or not, she was desperate to leave. She just wanted to get out of this nightmare. “No… not yet. There are still people out there we haven’t dealt with.” Lucien gently patted her head, as if soothing a frightened kitten. Though he was a bit displeased, it seemed Claire thought he was the cause of her troubles. But if he explained now, she probably wouldn’t listen. Until he uncovered the mastermind behind this, he wasn’t going to let her go. Besides, he wasn’t ready to let her go. Unfortunately, it seemed Claire had already forgotten him in her panic. "If you try to run away again, I'll tie you up and keep you in bed. Then, you won't go anywhere." His touch was gentle, but his words were threatening. His eyes held a mix of anger, possessiveness, and other complex emotions Claire couldn't understand. She chose to stay silent. She didn't want to provoke him further. Lucien was indeed angry. No woman had ever dared to shout at him like Claire had. He wanted to keep her close, maybe even tie her to the bed and f**k her hard, spanking her to make her obedient. But he restrained himself. Back in the room, Lucien didn't follow her inside. He instructed his men, "Go buy some tampons." After a pause, he added, "Get a variety of brands, and bring a new set of clothes." Claire had already entered the bathroom. The warm water helped her clear her mind from the chaos and reduced her fear. When she came out, she saw Lucien working on his laptop, seemingly handling business matters. Without looking up, he said, "Whatever you need is on the table." Claire opened the bag to find tampons of different sizes and brands, along with a new set of clothes. She looked at Lucien in confusion. "Is this your way of asking for help?" Lucien finally looked up, his earlier emotions now controlled. Now, he was back to his usual enigmatic and playful self. Claire said nothing, picking up the bag and heading back to the bathroom. The shirt seemed a bit large, and Claire rolled up the sleeves, the collar hanging loosely. As she bent down, her chest was exposed. When she came out, Lucien saw her in the oversized shirt with sleeves rolled up, revealing her slender arms. The collar was quite loose, showing the delicate collarbones under her neck. It was a simple outfit, but on Claire, it looked alluring, stirring up uncontrollable desires. Noticing his intense gaze, Claire pretended not to see it. Lucien pulled back, handing her a cup of hot cocoa. "Drink this. It'll help." Claire hesitated, her eyes full of suspicion. What if he had drugged it? Lucien placed the cup on the table. "I told you, I won't force you or use such underhanded methods."
