I wake up the next morning to my phone ringing. By the time I can focus and reach for my phone, the ringing stops. I have four missed calls from Levi, six from Bianca, and four from Jacob. How did I manage to sleep through all of that? And what the hell is going on? I dial Levi’s number, deciding that I’d rather speak to him over Jacob or Bianca.
“Hello? Nina?” He answers.
“Levi, what’s going on?”
“It’s your Dad, Nina. He was taken to hospital last night.”
“What? What happened?”
“I’m not completely sure, Nina, but I’ve heard that he was driving under the influence.”
“Oh my God, is he okay?”
“I don’t know. I just thought you would like to know.”
“Yes, of course. Thank you, Levi. I’m going to come back; I’ll get there as soon as I can.”
“Okay, do you need me to do anything?”
