In M.X-Enterprise, every Monday meetings were held early morning to summarize the past week’s work. This was also Natalie’s first time attending the regular meeting ever since her return.
The company directors were surprised to see Natalie when she entered. Some of them didn’t know she had returned, while others were rather critical of her because of what had happened a few days ago.
Natalie chose to ignore their glances as she walked directly towards her seat while carrying some documents in her hands. She then scanned the audience for a moment, since the chairman and general manager hadn’t arrived, everyone was chatting away.
Some of the directors were older and naturally had more power than Natalie, so they took advantage of these aspects and openly discussed the engagement dinner of Wendy and Xander.
Among them was a director who once clashed with Natalie because of work and hated how strong-willed she was, so naturally he took this opportunity to stir the pot over this matter.
“To think that there are those who still dare to show up after bringing themselves so much humiliation.” He mocked
Natalie simply raised a brow at this comment, she initially decided to just ignore Director Louis, but the man had no intentions of stopping there.
“I was even wondering how some people had climbed the ranks so quickly despite barely contributing anything. Turns out it’s because they have been working backstage! It’s a shame there are such heartless people out there, who actually tried deceiving their own family members.”
“Really? That’s too immoral.” Someone from his audience asked
“Exactly…”
Though at no point Director Louis called out any names, everyone was well aware who he was talking about.
Natalie’s expression darkened. She pursed her lips, glared at him and scoffed, “I used to think that only girls like to gossip, but it appears that anyone can do it regardless of gender or even age. They say with age people tend to behave more like small children losing the capacity to realize what is appropriate and what is not. But then again who even takes such people seriously?”
“You…” Director Louis’s face reddened as he slammed his hands on the table. “You dare talk to me like this, Natalie?”
Natalie looked up to meet his eyes directly, without any hint of surrender. She glared at him for a long time before finally letting out a laugh while asking, “Was I talking to you, Director Louis?”
“You… you…” Director Louis was speechless hearing her words “Don’t think I don’t know you’re talking about me, you little brat!”
“Then I guess you’ve misunderstood me, Director. To me you’re still so young – how could I call you an old senile? You’d have to wait another ten, twenty years maybe to be considered old! Was I referring to Director Louis, everyone?” Natalie forged innocence as she glanced at others.
How could anyone blame someone who looked so angelic? Besides, Natalie had indeed never mentioned Director Louis’s name.
If the man wants to believe so, no one else could stop him. He also should have considered a proper time and place to pull such an act. Meanwhile, the other directors and executives chose to remain neutral amidst the tense battle between Natalie and Director Louis.
Director Louis was so furious that he couldn’t speak. Right at that moment, the meeting room door was pushed open. Chairman Yoan Moore walked in, followed by his son Xander Moore.
Yoan could tell something wasn’t right the moment he walked in. He scanned the room and his eyes landed on Natalie for a moment before averting them, as though he had not seen her.
Meanwhile, Xander felt complicated after walking in and seeing Natalie. He still vividly remembered what had happened the last time they met. The words Natalie had said to him were unbearable for him.
Natalie quickly noticed the slight change in Yoan Moore’s attitude towards her and couldn’t stop her lips from curving into a self-deprecating smile. She too acted like she didn’t know him.
“Alright, let’s begin our meeting, first of all let’s welcome Ms. Smith back! She was away for an entire year on a business trip to discuss projects on behalf of the company. Good job! Everyone, let’s give her a round of applause and celebrate her triumphant return.”

*INFINIT Group*
27th floor, CEO’s office
Zachary greeted Maggie before retrieving the project information from her hands, then knocked on the CEO’s door.
“Come in!”
Hearing the cold voice coming from inside, Zachary straightened his back and pushed the door open. The man inside there was reading a document with his head lowered, without moving even when Zachary entered.
“Mr. Moore, this is last month’s report. Mr. Lee of the finance department says the budget for the external communications department is too high. Please make your decision” Zachary quickly reported before handing the documents over to Theodore Moore.
Theodore’s brow furrowed slightly as his fingers tapped his desk.
“There’s no need to report such trivial matters to me, let them handle this on their own. Anything that’s within a controllable range need not be reported to me” he said as glanced through the information before tossing the papers back to Zachary.
“Yes sir,” Zachary sighed slightly before continuing “Ms. Smith has gone to work today.”
“OK” Theodore nodded, “Anything else?”
“Yes! Here is the information on Ms. Smith” Zachary said, remembering that Theodore had asked for details on Natalie.
Back then Zachary found it strange, wondering if it was because of the car accident that day. But when he saw how Theodore looked after Natalie, Zachary realized that he may have been wrong.
Theodore took the information over and glanced at Zachary thoughtfully. Zachary immediately straightened his back upon realizing that he had spaced out in front of his boss.
“I shall take my leave, Mr. Moore” he said.
“Wait!” Theodore called out to Zachary and tapped the desk twice. Seeing Theodore’s actions Zachary knew the man had a task for him.
“Is there something you want me to do, Mr. Moore?”
“Reduce the number of orders given to M.X-Enterprise.”
With that one sentence, Zachary knew that his boss was about to make a move.
After Zachary left, Theodore continued to look at the project document in his hands for a long while before finally picking up the file on Natalie that Zachary had left. The information was extremely detailed; almost everything that happened from Natalie’s birth till present had been recorded in the file.
Theodore briefly glanced through the document, but his dark and deep eyes suddenly turned cold when his gaze landed on a photograph of Natalie and Xander Moore from three years ago. He lifted his head and took out the photograph.
The corner of his lips curled slightly as his slender fingers touched the face of the delicate-looking girl in the photo. He gently traced the girl’s eyes but he instantly turned cold when he saw how happily the girl smiled with the man next to her.
Theodore ripped the photograph in half, like some jealous ex separating the two people. He threw away one half of the photo and placed Natalie’s picture back into the file.
He continued to go through Natalie’s information. According to the document Natalie didn’t have a very good relationship with her family. She had moved out to live on her own a few years ago, mainly due to her sister Wendy and her mother Jane Gordan.
Despite Natalie having a poor relationship with Wendy and Jane, her grandfather Smith treated Natalie very well, to the point of pampering her. Aside from the head of the family, no one else was kind to her.
Theodore Moore stroked his chin and closed the file. He then immediately rang Zachary up, saying “I want Wendy Smith’s information. You have half an hour.”
Zachary was in the midst of handling office work, upon hearing Theodore’s orders his jaw fell to the floor.
‘H-half an hour?” He’s kidding, right?’ Zachary thought to himself
But before Zachary could even respond, Theodore had already hung up. Zachary was at the brink of a breakdown. How would he get such detailed information in just half an hour?
He hesitated for a moment before dialing a number. “Sir, can I borrow your assistant for half an hour?”
