Chapter Seven Gray As the Uber I’d hired eased down Laurel Street to the address Rémy had given me, I couldn’t stop thinking about three things. First, why was Rémy pretending that he couldn’t or wouldn’t talk to Serge? Second, why had he confided that little tidbit to me? And third, that my new boss made my slacks tent in the most embarrassing way possible. Before Rémy left for lunch, he pressed a key into my palm and closed my fingers around it, then held my hand for a beat too long. Or at least that was how it felt. “The key to my apartment is for you to keep. I’m prepared to trust you with my life, and I hope it will be rewarding for both of us.” Rémy murmured, his dark magnetic eyes locking with mine.
