I snapped out of my shocked state and activated survival mode. Before passing my room I yanked with all my strength, slowing Xavier down enough to catch his attention. I quickly mouthed.
"Clothes."
He nodded as he followed me to my room, I threw on a dress and tried to find something big enough for Xavier's build. There was no way a man would go unnoticed in a public place while fully naked. I felt a warm nudge on the back of my shoulder. I turned to find myself face to face with a bear sized wolf. It was covered in dark fur and the blue eyes dissipated my fear of it. Xavier's wolf was bigger than anything I had seen before. I felt intimidated by the aura yet I also felt safe under his gaze. I put on a hooded cloak and before I opened the door to head out, Xavier's voice infiltrated my mind.
"If we are suspected or discovered I'll give you a few seconds to climb on my back before I book it out of there. Understand?"
I nodded, I knew I was too weak to shift and he must've sensed it. I took one last look at my miserable and empty room. I opened the door and to my surprise, guards were still not blocking the path to the exit. Panicked voices could now be heard from what I assumed to be the cell Kyle's body was in. I rushed outside followed by the large structure of Xavier's wolf.
A fresh breeze filled my nose and I felt a rush I had never felt before. We quickly got away from the pack house and into the village where we were met with many curious stares, some frightened as well. I hid my face under my cloak as we quietly walked through the village. I heard a grumble come from Xavier before I noticed guards questioning villagers. One of them spotted us and yelled.
"There! That must be them!"
Within a few seconds, Xavier had crouched so that I could hop on his back. Warm sparks flew between us and I almost flew off at the speed he took off. I grabbed two handfuls of the thick fur around his neck and tightened my legs around him. He increasingly sped up as gunshots and screams were heard behind us. In no time, we passed the borders and tears flew from my eyes.
"I, Beatrix Woods, cut all ties and bonds formed between the Eagle Feather Pack and I."
With that, the screams fell silent, the anger dissipated and relief took hold of my every nerve.
We are free!
I heard my wolf yip happily; a sound I hadn't heard in a long time and I couldn't help but smile a little. Yet, I didn't celebrate until Xavier had been running for a while and the distance between me and hell were large. I howled happily with my wolf, enjoying the wind rustling through my long red hair. I felt a big vibration as Xavier let out a loud and deep howl of victory. I threw my arms around his neck and hid my face in his soft fur. Finally, I broke down. I cried for my parents, for my wolf, for my ex-mate, for my pack and for my past. Most of all, I cried of joy, overwhelmed by my liberation.
The liberation I was given thanks to Xavier, my second chance mate.
