Chapter 3

660 Words
The wall of the coven faded through the distance, Sashta finally relaxed and allow herself to feel comfortable with the ride. She watched Sybil that sat across her, lost by her own thoughts. She noticed that something is different for her, whatever it might be its not her job to interfere. "I met the seer the other day" Sashta turns her gaze back to Sybil. Her brows furrowed for she never openly discuss this with her. "Something is about to happen that will change the balance of life" she doesn't know what Sybil's trying to say, but one thing she knows- it's a change that includes war and bloodshed. "The council made sure to maintain the balance of life by ordering us to kill innocent lives". Sashta said bitterly, as the memories of every soul she had taken flashed through her mind. The council made sure to plant this knowledge to them since they started turning them into a killing machine. "I know, but the seer said otherwise. All I know is that the council will face their greatest enemy soon" guilt is evident in her voice, though she is part of the council she never chooses this path. She despises the other council members as much as she does, they allow power and selfishness to rule over their hearts and mind. As the daughter of Elder Edmund, the first 4 powerful witches that ever existed, the responsibility of taking her father's place lies on her shoulder. "Well, I hope that I'll be there to witness that then" she turn her gaze back outside as the gate of the Edinburgh Castle came into view. "That's for sure" Sybil whispered but enough for her to hear. She was about to ask what she meant when the carriage stopped - they have arrived. Sashta travels her gaze to the palace yard. The foundations of the surrounding wall were formed by the construction of series of large stone vaults. Weapons such as spears, catapults, and siege towers can be seen at the entrance wall. She returns her gaze back to Sybil as she exited the carriage. "Come on, we don't want king old David's hair to turn into gold" Sybil mocks her and she just rolls her eyes before following behind. King David rules the Southeastern part of the land. Though he is completely human, his power source is as strong as the neighboring kingdoms that are being ruled by either werewolves or witches. Sybil doesn't mention her purpose in coming in here, she just requested her assistance which she fully knows is not necessary. They are being escorted to the Laich Hall which serves as a private room for the king and his important guest - such as Sybil. "Stay here" Sybil instructed her, she was hesitant at first but it's not her place to question it. She stands outside the door still thinking what brought Sybil in here. She's been acting so weird lately and she's afraid that she is in trouble. She kicked that idea out in her head, no one could harm her. She is one of the most powerful witches in the world, what could go wrong. A loud bang made Sashta grabbed her knife and is ready to fight. But instead of an enemy, an angry Sybil went out of the hall and is heading outside. "Let's go," she said strongly, leaving no room for any argument. They were back on the road in no time. Sashta is still confused about what had happened but she chooses to go silent. As they reached the threshold of the coven, Sybil marched back inside without any words. Before she could go back to her room "Ready yourself Sashta, you will do an assignment tonight," Sybil said before disappearing into the dark hall. She stands there stunned and confused, Sybil never asked her to do some task before. Something is off and she'll make sure to know what it is.
