8. Calling dibbs

1070 Words
I feel the butterflies in my chest and immediately start to flush. What is it with this this guy? He gives me a devilish smile full of mischief and winks at me. "She's right. I called dibbs on Ana." He kisses me on the tip of my nose. "And no. I haven't f****d anyone inside or outside of any closets." He gives me a lopsided grin then turns to open his soda. What the f**k? I turn my head to look around at everyone. I don't need this kind of attention with the new school player. Everyone is just sitting there speechless and staring. "Close your mouth, Sabrina." Beth says. I look back at the cocky bastard sitting next to me. "Who says I even called dibs on YOU? This isn't a mutual dibbs." I say, pointing back and forth between us. He looked at me and chuckled. "It's absolutely a mutual dibbs." This guy's got a s**t ton of confidence. I'll give him that. Another tray drops next to Katie. Justin sits down next to her, giving Dimitri a dirty look. "So, what did I miss?" Everyone got quiet. "Well, I was just telling Ana that we should go on our 1st date this Saturday. Since we both mutually called dibbs." Dimitri happily tells Justin more than obviously staking a claim. Both Beth and I choke on our food. Sabrina is hysterically laughing. Justin eyes Dimitri coldly. "Well, that's a hard no. Ana is going to be with me. She asked me to accompany her to her birthday party on Saturday. Besides, I heard you had a date with Valerie. Ana doesn't want that trash's leftovers." I rolled my eyes. "Justin, I invited you as my friend. We are not going to be at my party together. I've told you this." "Who the f**k is Valerie?" Dimitri asks us confused and offended. Before anyone can answer him and fill him in on his mornings conquests, I hear giggling approaching. Nothing good ever comes from giggling. I look up, and see Shannon strutting towards our table, twirling her brown perfectly curled hair followed by her harem of gigglers. f**k. When does this torture end? I groan, looking around, planning my escape. I'll leave him here with these twits. He can deal with being hot on his own. "Hi Dimitri." She says with a sultry smile. She looks back at her posse of giddy, smiling idiots. She plants her ass down on the bench next to him like they're old friends. Her posse giggles more. She cozies up next to him and starts snaking her arms around his bicep. Poor Dimitri looks horrified. Maybe I feel a little bad for him. He turns to us as he gently slides his arm out of Shannon's grip. "Who is this?" He looks annoyed. Beth smiles. "This would be Shannon. She claims you f****d her in the janitors closet this morning." She says loudly pointing her fork at Shannon. The smile drops from Shannon's face, and she turns red. Dimitri turns to look at her in disgust. I can feel rage powering through him. "I'm not playing your f*****g games." He snaps. "Get your ass up and go somewhere else." He leans over to me, dismissing her. "I don't know who Valerie is either, I'm so sorry." He put his arm around me and kissed my cheek. I'm taken back a little bit. He's a cocky, overconfident asshole but he's also tender, attentive, and caring. He's definitely not human. I hope Beth also made note of this. For some reason, Shannon is still sitting here staring at him in embarrassment. It's very awkward. She looks at her harem, which has now realized she lied. She continued to sit for a few minutes like she was figuring out what to do or maybe waiting for him to change his mind. I'm not sure. We pass quiet glances at each other, waiting for her to leave. "Come on! You can't be that dense?" Sabrina cries, throwing her hands up. "He's made it clear he's not interested. Collect whatever dignity you have left and go!" Awkward silence falls as Shannon quietly stands up and looks at me before walking away. "I'm sorry, Dimitri. Ana, I'll see you on Saturday at your party." She forces out staring daggers at me before turning to walk away. Dimitri tenses up. "Your 18th birthday is Friday, and you're having a birthday party at your house on Saturday?" He suddenly seems frantic, and I'm not understanding why? Maybe he feels hurt that I haven't invited him. I guess it makes sense. He is new, and at least he'd get to know everyone. "Yeah, why? Do you want to come? I gotta warn you that the invites got completely out of hand. The entire senior class is going." This just made Dimitri more tense. He stared at me with wide eyes. "It's a full moon. s**t. Yeah, I'll be there." He started getting up and taking his phone out of his pocket. "Is it alright if I bring a friend?" What the hell is with the shift in his behavior? Did I say something wrong? "Yeah, sure. Bring your suits. I have a pool." Dimitri picked up his tray. "Sorry, Love. I have to make a phone call. I'll talk to you later." Then he looks at Justin. "She's going to be with me on Saturday. Get over it. Quick." He bends down and kisses me on the forehead before walking away. Snap. I look over at Justin. He snapped his fork. Great. "What was that?" Beth asks me as we both watch Dimitri toss his garbage and leave the cafeteria. His phone at his ear. "I don't know. Did I say something wrong?" Sabrina shrugs. "I don't know, but calling out Shannon in front of her friends was classic. I'd pay to watch that again. Did you see the look on her face?" I did. I also sensed that she didn't completely grasp the rejection and is more determined than she was before she sat down. "Do you think his friend is single? I call dibbs!" Beth squeals clapping with excitement. I didn't see Dimitri for the rest of the day. Did he leave school? How do you not finish your first whole day in a new school? More questions. I've got a growing list of questions and not a single answer.
