Things were going great between Austin and me we both were getting along quite well and were eventually getting closer from time to time . We always do stuff together whether it’s playing basketball or a walk , almost every night we would watch a movie together , many times we cuddled and there was absolutely no awkwardness between us we were very comfortable around each other . Many times I would fall asleep in his arms while watching the movie at night and when I wake up in the morning I would be in my room on my bed and that’s what I liked about him the most he was so caring and considerate about me , he did everything by taking me into consideration like he made sure that the temperature of air conditioner isn’t set too low because I catch a cold easily , he could tell that I wasn’t in a good mood just by looking at my face and always had something to make me feel better . Once I remembered , we were buying some fruits when I slipped on something  and twisted my ankle and I could barely walk , so he carried me on his back all the way from the store  to his car although it felt quit embarrassing in front of so many people but it made me sure that he also has feelings for me and he cares about me too much .

It was summer and Austin’s birthday was around the corner he made my previous birthday at the hospital so special I also had to do something special for him and therefore I decided to give him a surprise , since we both didn’t talk much to others it would be just him and me . I had 10 days to plan the surprise so I started with the most important thing cake , we had a bakery shop near by and we went there quite often so in the evening , Austin was busy in the laptop with some work I went to him and said 

“ I want to have some pastries so I am going to Emily’s  bakery “ 

he stopped me and said “ wait I will also get changed , we will go together “ obviously I can’t let him go with me 

“ no you don’t  have to it is not very far I can go there alone , don’t worry I will be back soon “ he looked quite confused 

“ are you sure “

“ yes I am damn sure , I will be back before you know it “ 

“ alright whatever you want to do , be careful , bye “

“ bye “ , saying this I went out and shut the door behind me  .

I reached there within less than 10 min it was not a big shop but a small bakery but everything they made was fresh super delicious , I went in ,  we have been there for so many times that people there know us quite well . I went up to Emily ( Emily is the owner and the head chef here , she is the most sweet and kindhearted woman I have ever come across ) , 

“ hi Emily “ I called her 

 “ hey Carol it’s been a while since you last came , how have you been lately ? “ she came to me with the brightest smile 

“ I have been doing great what about you  ? “ she carries such a positive energy

 “ I am awesome as always . So what made you come here , what can I do for you “ 

“ well actually Austin’s birthday is next week and I want to give him a surprise . So I want to ask you if you can make a chocolate mousse basketball theme cake for him within 10 days “ I was not sure if she would agree 

“of course I will , don’t worry I will get it delivered on time “ , she was quite confident

“ thanks a lot Emily also I want one more favour please help me keep it a secret from Austin “

“ yes sure , I understand “ 

“ thank you Emily , you are the best . Now please pack 2 black forest pastries for me “ 

Within 5 mins my pastries were packed and I left the place , the cake was settled now I the only things left were decoration and gifts . For decoration I had already orders the things and are expected to be delivered within 2 or 3 days . I reached home and we ate the pastries together . As for the location I decided to decorate the spare room which we had , where I will surprise him at midnight and then for dinner we can go to his favourite restaurant , although initially I had decided to cook something by myself but after many failed attempts I have accepted the fact that I am not a good cook and it’s better to eat outside than to eat at home and fall sick the other day . Every morning Austin went for a jog at 7 and at that time ( as you may have already guessed ) I was fast asleep in my bed unaware of what is happening around in the world , so I decided to sacrifice my sleep for some days and would do the decoration in those 1.5 hrs when Austin was out and since that room has never been used so anyone barely notices it and Austin would be the happiest person if he would know that I am waking up early because that person always bugs me about things like wake up early is good for physical and mental health and etc. . Now only gift was left which I was slowly thinking about although I couldn’t remember anything that Austin might have mentioned he wanted . Once I asked him that “ if you had a power that you can have anything in the world , then what would you take ? “ , to which he replied “ I will give my wish to you , because I already have everything I want in my life “ that man is really difficult to understand , he is either smiling like an i***t or sitting emotionless like a statue . Well , anyway the decoration things came before expected and fortunately when they came when Austin was not home . 

Tomorrow is going to be a difficult day , a sleepy head who wakes up not before 10 has to wake up at 7 , not just wake up but also has to work so I told Austin that I am quite sleepy and won’t be able to watch movie with him today and went to sleep . The next day , the alarm went off although I could hear it I laid in my bed then after sometime it again went off and this tie I had to pull myself together and got up , I sneaked into the living room , Austin has gone for his morning jog now it’s time to do some work . I went into the room , It didn’t have much furniture so I won’t have to move anything , the first day I spent in arranging the lights , I hung them on all the 4 walls in 2 loops , this itself consumed a lot of time it was almost time Austin would be coming back any minute so I went to my bed and slept again . This went on for several days , at first I find it quite difficult to wake up but eventually got used to it . It was 10 in the night , we both were taking a walk after dinner when suddenly a dog came to us from behind , Austin has been feeding this dog for a month now , when we first him he was quite weak but now he was fit and healthy earlier he came here every night but nowadays he is rarely seen , Austin bend down and started petting the dog with all his love , that’s when it occurred to me that Austin likes dogs a lot so why not get a pet for him as a birthday present . We both have always been animal lovers so the next day , I told Austin that I am going to the parlour  and went to an animal shelter to adopt a puppy . When I reached there a woman came to me “ Welcome mam , are you here to adopt a dog ? “ she asked , wasn’t it quite obvious I thought to myself “ uh yes “ I replied “ please come with me , I will show you around all the dogs and you can pick one “ she took me inside , there were many cute and adorable dogs . Austin and I have always favoured adoption rather than buying of animals adopted pets are just as lovely and loyal as the the purchased once . “ These are all of them you can have a look at all of them and after you have decided you can come to me and tell me your decision “ saying this she left , I took a walk around , these were all happy and healthy pets just waiting for someone to take them home , everyone was adorable in it’s own way it was getting difficult for me select any one then I saw a golden coloured small and healthy puppy staring at me with full concentration I bend over to him his eyes were still fixed on me and as I moved closer to his cage he made a movement with his paw towards me as if asking me to take him with me , I have made my decision I wanted this one . I called that woman and told her that I wanted this one 

“ thank you for taking responsibility of this little creature “ she said 

“ you don’t have to thank me . although I have a request to make , can I take him after 3 days ? actually I want to give a surprise to one of my friends “ 

“ yes of course it’s no problem “ she said with a big smile .

“thank you “ 

I bend over to that puppy “ I will be back in some days till then wait for me “ I said to the puppy and he started jumping out of happiness as if he could understand what was happening . “ I think he likes you a lot , he usually remains quite and still around strangers “ that woman said to me , “ I hope he does “ I said replying to her . She tells me somethings about the dog and how to handle them since it was my first time having a pet , then after some time I left that place I was very ecstatic I could wait to take him with me to home . 

Finally after so much of hard work , the room was looking like I wanted it to look like lights were hung on the wall , a beautiful happy birthday banner was also hung on the front wall , Austin’s name was also written with lights , I inflated 3 colors of balloon black , white and blue they had long ribbons attached to them and were filled with helium gas so they were stuck against the ceiling with the colourful ribbons hanging from them the balloons covered the ceiling above the table where cake will be kept and all the other balloons were filled with normal air and they covered the floor fortunately I had balloon pump at home , it was earlier used by dad on my birthday . I locked the door , Austin may be back any moment and again went to sleep . It was evening , Emily called and told me that the cake was ready and I can pick it up . Fortunately Austin was quite busy that day so I went to Emily’s bakery , there she brought the cake and said “ take a look at it and tell me if you are satisfied or not before taking it back to home “ , she opened the box and I was mesmerized , I have never seen such a beautiful cake before the bottom layer of the cake was white with a shadow figure of a man holding basketball , the layer above that was in the shape of the basketball hoop and net and above that was a big basketball which had Austin’s name written on it , it also had some side miniature elements like a pair of white sports shoes , a black coloured jersey , it also had a small boy on the right side which looked somewhat like Austin. The cake was made with full dedication and the hard work can be seen through the detailing , she has paid attention to even the smallest things like the pattern on the ball , the way net looked quite realistic and the boy’s hair were carefully matched to Austin’s . “ So what do you think of it , do you like it ? “ Emily asked , “ are you crazy ? I don’t like but love this cake , you have made it beyond my imagination and expectation . You are a genius Emily you are a star . I love this cake , I love you I don’t know what to say “ I hugged her tightly “ I am glad you liked it “ she said . I got into the car with the cake , I was extremely happy after looking at the cake it was just perfect . I went back home and put it safely in the refrigerator , now I had to make sure that Austin doesn’t find it and for that I have to stop him from cooking today so I called him 

“ hey , I wanted to tell you that I don’t feel like eating home cooked food today so can you bring something for dinner on your way back home ? and also you have been busy since morning and must be tired . It’s fine to eat outside food once in a while right ? “ I was hoping he don’t deny it 

“ alright , I will bring the dinner with me , is there anything in specific that you would like to have ? “ he said

 “ no , anything would be fine “ . I hung up .

I was very excited so I went to take another look at the room , everything was perfect and going as planned . Soon Austin came back , he got changed and then we had dinner I haven’t once mentioned his birthday to him , so he probably wouldn’t be expecting such a surprise . After finishing the dinner , I asked him if he would like to watch any movie with me tonight although if he is feeling tired and want to have a rest I totally understand , “ no I am not tired let’s watch something “ he said petting my head . Yes , I finally got a way to make him stay awake till 12 . Although we were watching an interesting movie my eyes were constantly stuck on the clock I was eagerly waiting to surprise him . Time passed , the movie went on I didn’t even know what that movie was about and then just it was 11:59 p.m. and I started counting the seconds 5.. 4.. 3.. 2.. 1.. and there it was 12 , I took the remote and turned the television off , Austin looked at me with confusion 

“ what are you doing the movie was not over yet “ he asked 

“ I have to show you something “ I said with great enthusiasm

“ now ? “

“ yes “ 

I didn’t gave him a second to think and got up from the couch , held his hand and pulled him up “ where are you taking me to ? Carol what’s going on ? “ he kept asking something or the other “ please be quite for a moment “ I ordered him “ but …” he was about to say something “ no but “ I said . We were standing right in front of the door of that room 

“ go inside “ I said turning to him 

“ it’s the empty spare room why would I want to go inside ? “

“ because I said “ 

Well he has always been obedient , he opened the room and it was all dark inside he switched on the lights and I shouted on the top of my voice “ Happy Birthday Austin “ he was startled he  didn’t say anything for some time 

“ So how do you like my surprise “ I finally asked ( the same question he asked me on my birthday ) being too proud of myself 

“ you remember ? “ still a bit dumbfounded

 “ of course I do , and someone once told me that somethings are not easily forgettable “ of course it was said by him on my birthday . We almost recreated the dialogues intentionally

He hugged me tightly “ thank you Carol , thanks a lot . I don’t know what to say “

“ you don’t have to say anything “ and we both stood there for a while hugging each other “ okay you go inside and I will bring your cake “ I went running to the kitchen , took it out of the box , carefully brought it to the room and kept it on the table . 

“ Wow ! it’s such an amazing cake , it’s just adorable is that little boy on the side me ? “ he asked

“ I think it is “

“ where did you get it ? it’s so unique “

“ of course none other than Emily can make such a thing “

“ I have to pay a visit and personally thank her for this “

I put a candle on it carefully not to ruin anything on the cake and lit it “ there you go “ . Austin blew the candle , made a wish and cut it , the cake was not only beautiful but also delicious we ate it until we were full and then kept the rest of it back .

 “ You did all of these on your own ? why didn’t I notice it ? most of the time I am at home with you “ , “ well you would be happy to know that have been waking up early for days and I did all the decoration when you went for your morning jog , by the time to came back I went back to my bed , you can praise me if you are too touched by that “ I said 

“ yes you did a great work , thank you for making this day so special for me “ he hugged me and then we went to sleep .

The next day I woke up before Austin ( yes you heard it right , I woke up early again ) , went to his room , turned off his alarm and came out . It wouldn’t him if will not go jogging for one day . Then I left the house , got into the car and went to the adoption centre to take my pet , it was that same woman , she gave me she handed me that small beautiful creature in a small box , she also gave me a red dog collar which was looking amazing on his golden fur I thanked her and took the puppy with me , I put the box on the passenger seat , he looked quite comfortable with me , he wasn’t scared and was quite happy . I carefully took him inside the house and kept that box on the floor and lifted him out of it , he was so energetic we was jumping around and over me , licking me , moving about in the house he was so lively . I took him in my arms and went to Austin’s room where he was still asleep “ wake up Austin , look I have a birthday present for you “ he said shaking him , unlike me he opened his eyes at once “ what is the gift ? “ he woke up and finally noticing the dog in my hand , he looked at me “ this is our pet ? our dog ? “ he was completely shocked “ yes it is , here take him “ I gave it to him , both of them seemed to like each other a lot they have just met and were already playing like best friends finally getting over his gift and realizing I was there too he looked at me “ thanks a lot , this is the best gift I have ever received . by the way what will we name him ? “ he asked me “ it’s your gift and it is up to you whatever you want to call him “ . “ okay then we will call him Cooper “ he might have already thought of it , he didn’t even took a second to think about it . Now we were a happy family of three .
