*Allison's POV*
The car door closed softly behind him.
For a moment, neither of us moved.
The air inside the car felt different now.
Heavy.
Charged.
I didn’t look at him immediately.
Just focused on the papers in my lap, gathering them slowly, carefully, like nothing had just happened.
Like my heart wasn’t beating faster than it should.
Like I didn’t just see something I wasn’t supposed to see.
“It fell,” I said finally, my voice calm. “I didn’t go looking for it.”
Silence.
I could feel his eyes on me.
Watching.
Measuring.
Trying to figure out how much I knew.
I slid the last file into place and closed the folder, resting it neatly in my lap before looking up.
