REIS’S POV The courthouse doors had barely closed behind me when the shouting began. “Alpha Reis! Do you deny the allegations?” “Did you unlawfully inherit the title?” “Is Kristof the rightful Alpha?” “Have you been suspended by the Council?” Camera flashes burst in my vision, but I kept walking. The crowd surged forward—reporters, civilians, opportunists—all hungry for blood. My security forced a path just wide enough for me to reach the car. I slid into the backseat without a word. Mira entered from the other side a second later and then the door shut. The Silence that followed felt heavenly. For the first time that day, I could breathe. Soon the driver pulled away, and for the first three blocks, neither of us spoke. Then I slammed my fist into the leather seat beside me.
