The break room and the CEO’s office were connected by a single door, so when she stepped out, she was immediately greeted by the sight of Tracy standing in front of Alex’s desk. Tracy was in the middle of giving a report but paused abruptly when she saw Eve emerging.
Her expression shifted from surprise to something darker—shocked, then quickly livid.
Alex, who had been keeping his head down the entire time, raised it only when the voice reporting to him suddenly stopped. His sharp eyes were far more intimidating than the rumors suggested. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of Eve standing just outside the break room door.
“I told you to rest. You don’t have to work if you’re tired,” he said with a furrowed brow. It was obvious she still looked weak.
