7-Frustration

558 Words
- Finn’s POV - After storming out of the house, I ran toward the forest and shifted into my wolf. I needed a good run to clear my thoughts and let out the frustration. “Mate is beautiful, you fool! She is a gift from the Goddess! What are you waiting for,” shouted my wolf, his voice ringing in my mind. “You’re the fool! What do you know? That girl is cursed!! She may not remember the past and Leyton might not know the truth of her father’s death but I do! I heard the pack warriors talking about it during a meeting with my father. How can I take a cursed and mute girl for my mate,” I retorted. “That’s nonsense! How could you be so easily taken in by rumors? An Alpha who cannot differentiate truth from lies doesn’t deserve to be an Alpha!” Suddenly, I felt my bones snapped back into place and I involuntarily shifted back into my human form. More frustration rose within me as I searched around the trees for the emergency clothes that we left around in the forest. I dressed and headed back towards the pack house, determined to reject the undeserving girl as soon as I could. - Leyton’s POV - “Kayla, I’m sorry that I left for so long and I wasn’t there for you when I should have been. I wish I could go back in time and do this again but I can’t.” Before I could continue, Kayla lifted a finger to my lips and shook her head. She pointed to herself and gave me a thumbs up and then proceeded to type on her phone. “I’m proud of you Leyton! You’re our future Beta and it was your duty to leave so that you could train and be prepared. You’re my only family and I missed you but I know you did the right thing. Mum would also have been proud!” She beamed at me and at the moment, I felt like the worst brother in the world. If she had known the truth, would she still feel the same way? My heart clenched as I thought about what she would do if she had known the truth. I can only hope that she would never know, and never be hurt more by my actions than she already has been. Remembering the bruises that I saw last night, I frowned and gently cupped Kayla’s face in my hands. I looked into those brown eyes and asked her as gently as I could, “Kayla, I saw your legs last night when I tucked you into bed. There were bruises on the back of your thighs. Could you tell me how you got them? Was it those kids? Don’t be afraid, you can tell me and I’ll protect you.” Suddenly, her smile faltered and she pushed my hands away. She shook her head and forced a smile, giving me a thumbs up sign. Worry etched across my face as I realized that there was definitely something more to those bruises. It couldn’t have been from a fall or accident, if not she would have just said so. Frustrated that she wouldn’t tell me the truth, I ran my hand through my hair and sighed. Maybe she needs more time to become comfortable with me again, maybe then she’d tell me everything.
