3-Memory Day

515 Words
- Kayla POV - I watched with envy as a mother picked a dress for her daughter for Memory Day. The love in her eyes as she looked at her daughter reminded me of Mum. I had to quickly blink away tears as the Luna called for me to try on a dress. Since Leyton and the Alpha’s son left, I was the only pup left in the pack house under the Luna’s care. She was a good Luna and made sure that I had everything that I needed. I was grateful to her and the Alpha for taking me in and providing for me. But I missed having family, having someone that truly loved me and didn’t see me only as a responsibility, as a task and sometimes as a burden. Since I was a pup, I heard people talking all the time about me behind my back that I had brought death to my close ones. At first I ignored them but gradually, I started to become afraid that it was true. When Leyton left to boarding school, I became even more afraid that it was true. If not, why would he leave me all by myself, never responding to my letters or Emails for ten years? Was he afraid that he’d also be cursed with death if he was close to me? “This dress looks great on you, Kayla. White is definitely your color,” the Luna commented as she looked at me approvingly. I nodded with a faint smile and we headed home with the dress that she had picked for me. The day flew by as we prepared for Memory Day and by the end of it, I was too tired to be nervous about seeing Leyton again or to be sad about all those I had loved and lost. - Leyton’s POV - The car pulled into the driveway and all the memories flooded back to me. I shook my head and concentrated on the tasks ahead. As the future Beta, I had to help with the festivities of the day. We got out of the car and walked into the pack house. Immediately, the Luna rushed to hug us, followed by the Alpha. “My baby boy, you’re finally back! And you too, Leyton, how much you have grown,” exclaimed the Luna. “Mum, please stop, you’re embarrassing me now,” Finn protested as the other pack members in the pack house laughed at the scene. I scanned the room and was sad but also relieved at the same time when I couldn’t find Kayla. What was I going to say to her? Would she want to see me? So many things were running through my head but I didn’t have too much time to dwell on it. Before I could ask about Kayla, the Alpha told us to get ready for the ceremony and I decided to leave the difficult questions until the end of the day.
