Chapter Two

1330 Words
Mateo's POV I sat in my car staring at the hand of my watch moving from one place to another. It wasn't like I had nothing to do but I decided not to leave the car till I found something that intrigued me. “Will you just do this all day Mateo?” My wolf, Theo asked in my head. Of course, I didn't intend to stay in the car all day but it would cut short the amount of time I had to use in the office. I could see my men leaning against the car from outside as most of them had gotten carried away, conversing with each other. “Mateo Lee.” I heard my wolf growl and this made me groan before pushing the door open. As I did so, the guards immediately stood upright, bowing slightly. I adjusted my shirt's sleeve before heading into the building with a slightly tired look but at the same time, I knew it showed my cold aura. As I stepped in, a lingering scent filled my nose. It was a strange scent and I've never heard of it. It wasn't a human scent and it wasn't a werewolf's scent. At the same time, it had a hint of human scent in it mixed with lavender and an alcoholic scent, making it intoxicating. “That scent.” Theo's voice came in a low growl in my head. “You know what it is?” I asked him, trying to take in the scent again but it had disappeared since it was no longer strong in the area anyway. “Are you fine, sir.” I heard a voice from behind me and I turned to see my beta, Richard, standing there with his glasses sitting a little bit lower than it usually does. And as he stared at me, he shifted it up with his middle finger. “Did someone new come in?” I asked him as I proceeded to walk towards my private elevator. “Yes. Today is the main interview.” He reported. I wasn't really interested in the interviews, the junior Lees could deal with it but it strangely sounded intriguing because of the scent I just took in. I was about to step into my elevator but a strange force pulled me to look towards the regular elevator like I would get something interesting there. I wasn't the type of person who does something against my senses so I headed towards the regular elevator. I pulled my hands in my pocket as I walked out of the elevator, following the faint scent towards the interview room where Mason, Melody and other head of departments were seated at the table. “Big bro.” Melody said with finally a bright look on her face. “What are you doing here?” I was to be at the interview but I really wasn't interested and just ignored it but now I was here. I walked over to my seat, turning to look out at the city. “Just ignore me and go on.” I knew that person was close from the close scent and I just sat there, looking through the tab in my hands which had the outline of the entire city there. I heard every single interview they had but I was uninterested. “Abigail Kim.” Mason called and after a few minutes, the door was heard opening. That scent hit me strongly and I could already tell that was the person. The scent filled my senses and I felt Theo's happiness from within and it could only mean one thing. “Mate!” We both said in my mind and a smirk appeared on my lips as I turned to look at the person who just walked into the room. “Finally.” I said out loud and they all looked at me questioningly but I ignored them. I took in her scent again, this time differentiating each component. There was the lavender scent from her shampoo and the mild alcoholic perfume scent coming from her mixed with the alcoholic scent of the mate bond. And then, that one that differentiated werewolves from humans. She wasn't a werewolf, she was huma and humans didn't know about the werewolves existence. We all just lived in the same city, assuming we were humans just like them. She looked at me and she seemed frozen in place, staring at me like she had just seen a ghost. I expected that from those meeting me for the first time, but not her. I leaned back into my seat with a smirk on my face as I gestured to the seat for her to have her seat and she did just as she was told, trying to push off the daze she felt. I looked at her from head to toe and I had to admit that she was pretty. She had red hair which was straight to the mid length and the remaining length which fell down to her waist was curly. “So Miss Kim, am I correct?” I asked her and she nodded gently. “I'll handle the interview.” I said to the four of us and they just hummed before I turned back to my mate who was seated confidently but I could tell she was just trying her best to be. Of course one would cower before the literal mayor of the entire city if he had a personality like mine. I picked up her file and went through it. It was quite impressive and a smile appeared on my lips but of course, no one noticed it. “And why do you think you're worthy of working for me?” I asked her, dropping the file before me and folding my arms across my chest. “I think I'll be a very great addition because…” As she spoke, I wasn't listening to her and just sat there, looking at her. And everything felt as if it was being played in slow motion as an invisible wind lifted her hair slightly, revealing her beautiful face even more. She was just so pretty. “Mateo.” I heard Melody's voice as she nudged me. “She's done.” “I know.” I replied, knowing fully well I didn't know she had. I was just too engrossed with the connection I was feeling to her and everything else seemed to fade. “You can leave now, Miss Kim.” She stood up, bowed and walked away. I watched as she walked out before turning to Melody. “She's hired. Make her the project manager.” I said to her and she looked at me with a stunned expression. “Are you crazy big bro?” She asked me and I looked at her with a raised brow. Of course, I was crazy. Crazy in love with her already. “I doubt you even listened to anything she said.” “Did you go through her file?” I raised a brow slightly. “Everything in it is already enough proof that she'll be a great addition to the team.” She didn't say anything and just frowned before I stretched out my hand, ruffling her hair gently, knowing it'll only calm her down even if she didn't want to calm down. “I've heard you, now stop trying to manipulate me emotionally.” She pushed my hands away with a hidden smile. “And I'll be taking over the project you'll be handling personally.” I said and she looked at me like she wanted to protest and she did. “Why would you want to?” She asked, her voice slightly raised. Of course I would not tell her I wanted to take over the project because I want my mate. A smile just appeared on my face as I stood up. “My job here is done.”
