Although I assumed that he was immortal, the thought of Daniel coming to any harm chilled me to the bone. It was strange to feel so strongly for him so soon, but I had no doubt in my heart that I would give my life to protect him, even though that was a complete reversal of our roles. He would likely never forgive me if I did such a thing, but I wouldn’t be able to stop myself. I cared about him too much, and I fiercely protected those that I loved.
