The bird's eye view was mesmerizing.
Is this how birds view the world?
Everything looked so tiny yet put together, the ocean water looked more blue from above, joining in the horizon to the skies, making it hard to differentiate where the ocean. stopped and where the skies began, the waves crashing into the white sands of the beach, the greenery was picture perfect, taking up a lot of space that bordered at the foot of the mountains, the mountains that used to look imposing from the ground level, looked more like hills and part of the peaks disappeared into the skies.
The breathtaking scenery took my mind off the fact that I was riding a dragon, a snow dragon for that matter, the cool scales beneath me was a clear reminder. I have never been reckless all my life, but the recent events have made me throw caution into the wind as I follow a stranger . . . a dragon shifting stranger into the unknown, but for some reason, I feel safer with him than returning to the pod or staying in the forest all by myself.
We soared through the top of the mountains, the whitecaps of the mountains looked picturesque, it was so beautiful as if it had popped out from a story book.
I couldn't help but let my jaw drop at the beautiful scene in around me, but when I looked down into the valleys and saw how deep the looked from up here, I felt my stomach flip, I closed my eyes tightly, trying to block out the fact that if I fall from this height, it will be a sure death. All of the sudden, the dragon shakes me gently from side to side making me open my eyes to see what was happening, he soared closer to the walls of a mountain, making me see an almost unnoticeable crack. I'm sure I wouldn't have noticed it either, if not for the angle that he took.
Shit!, I thought to myself, if we have to pass through that crack, I really need to lean in so as not to hit my head on the walls. So I lean in, wrapping my arms around his neck and holding on tight.
As if that was what he was waiting for, he circles the peak of the mountain once more before diving sidewards, straight for the crack.
I shut my eyes as we approach the cave mouth, suddenly, we are enveloped in darkness, but I don't open my eyes till I feel him slowing down.
I open my eyes to a darkened cave, he stops a few feet into the entrance and I come down trying to adjust my eyes to the cave. it is totally dark a light coming in from somewhere inside, though not very bright, but enough to see your way.
I feel like exploring so I move quietly towards the light, I can feel movement behind me, indicating that he's changing back to human form, I train my eyes forward not wanting to see him naked again, I think I've had enough of that to last me for a lifetime.
I quickly move further into the cave towards the light bracing my hand on the wall to find my way.
All of a sudden, the cave opens to beautiful space I can hear the trickling of water coming from somewhere and when I take a few steps deeper sure enough, water does seem to come out from a rock, pouring quietly into a pool below.
"wow this place is so beautiful." I whisper to myself in awe.
The thin sheet of water pouring from between the rocks, looks like a bridal veil in form of a waterfall is picturesque, the light coming from the opening above the pool gives the water glistening effect, bouncing of reflections on the cave wall, the thin sheet of water creates the pool down below, the place is serene and quiet, even the water pouring from the rock makes the most minimal sound.
I could stay here forever, I breathe in the air, lifting up my face towards the soft blowing through the opening, I'm sure that when the sun is at its peak, it will come through this very opening and brighten up the cave, I smile as I picture it in my mind.
But wait!, what am I even saying? well I don't know my next move but I guess could stay here for a while before deciding on the next move. Then I got curious, from my knowledge of water, it must have an outlet, if not this cave would have been overflowing from the from the crack we came in through, so I move closer to the pool to inspect it, I don't see any obvious outlets but I'm sure the outlets must be right under the pool somewhere.
"Amazing" is all I can say.
The amazing rain forest scent behind me lets me know that Bradley is right behind me.
"it's beautiful isn't it? he says, and all I can do is nod as I stay in place, not sure if he is dressed or not.
"Come on, let me show you around." he stretches out his hand, thankfully, I I see the sleeve of a shirt and I sigh in relief as I hold on to his hand and follow him through another opening that leads into a wider space, this space could swallow up our entire cove, or maybe I cannot judge properly since this place is practically empty, if you could say so.
In one corner, there are lots and lots of heaps of treasure, so many treasures that they seem to be almost overflowing.
"WOW" is all I can say, he chuckles behind me, the sound sending a shiver down my spine.
"You know that every dragon gets it's energy from treasures of gold, silver, rare stones, name them, so I have my own stash right here." he gestures to his 'stash' making me smile as I nod.
"Makes sense, but how do you know everything that is here?" he shrugs
"I may not really know everything but I sure do know enough to know when one is missing." he winks and that makes me laugh but he guides to the other side of the space where a large mattress lays on the ground. it is laid half - hazardly. there's nothing else in the space, so the whole set up looks as if he just lays on the bed to stare at the heaps of 'junk' on the other side of the 'room'.
The only light comes from a crack from above, but it brightens the room so that one could see. it looks so bare. It's funny how there's so much treasures at one end and the other side is bare.
So I ask him if this is where he stays.
"not really" he replies "but this is where I hide out when I want to be away from the world." He looks around with pride. "Nobody knows this place and I've never brought anyone here before." he stated with a sincere smile on his face.
That in itself is a shocker, he has never brought anyone here then why bring me? As if reading my mind, he comes close and holds me by my shoulders looking directly down into my eyes.
"My dragon took a liking to you right from the first time we saw you, in fact he almost imprinted on you but I needed to give you the choice of accepting us, I didn't want us forcing ourselves on you. I won't lie to you, I'm deeply attracted to you but I would like for you to also return my feelings, in as much as I would love to be with you, I like it to be a mutual feeling."
I was so shocked, the stranger I met few hours ago is pouring out his feelings in front of me, I am mesmerized by his sapphire blue eyes, I couldn't say anything, how could I? he is telling me about how much he loves me, meanwhile, my mate couldn't wait to get between the sheets with my sister. My face must have changed as my thoughts turned sour because he added.
"I am not going to rush you, I need you to take your time, I can see you are barely 18, but I'm prepared to wait for you, I just wanted to get it all out there." all I could do was nod, but I had questions
"so where do you really stay?" I decided to go with a change of topic. He sighed, slumping his shoulders as he answered.
"Well, somewhere in the other part of the mountains." he said nonchalantly.
"do you have a family?"
"Ofcourse I do, I spoke to you about my mom right?" and I nodded
"Well, I have a little sister who is about your age, I'm sure she'll be happy to meet you."
"What about your dad ?" I asked him and immediately regretted it as I saw the look on his face and his tensed jaw.
"He's there,"is he answers simply. "We don't get along often."
I nodded in understanding as I didn't really get along with my own family. "Enough about me, tell me why a beautiful girl like you would decide to stay alone in the forest.?"
"what makes you think I was alone?" I answered cheekily. He gave a throaty laugh.
"you forget that I can see from above and that forest, as far as I know only houses wild animals that could have torn into pieces so I'm very sure your family does not stay there so what were you doing there? he asked again tilting his head to one side, he leads me to the bed, making me sit down comfortably.
I heaved a sigh as I begin to tell him about my adoptive family, Somehow the Sam just open s and I open up to him. I skim over most of the things, I don't want to paint them in a bad light since I believe they are good people, because it takes people who are nice to take in someone who is not their own blood and raise as one, they must have fallen out of love with me for one reason or the other, but I wouldn't paint them bad especially not to 'stranger' and I also don't tell them tell him the part that the girl that was frolicking with my fated mate was my own sister.
When I told him of finding my mate with another girl, his jaw becomes tense, he furrows his eyebrows, it's obvious that he he angry but he doesn't disrupt me. I finish by telling him of how I escaped to the forest.
"why didn't you go to your family? I'm sure they would have put him in his place and protected you.," I put my head down and shook it slightly.
"It's complicated"
He looks at me for a while as if deciding whether to push for more answers or not.
After a while, he shrugs his shoulders.
"It's okay, but I know whatever decision you took must have been divinely orchestrated, if not I wouldn't have met someone as beautiful as you." he said, rubbing my cheek with his thumb and sending a sweet sensation down my core.
"As for your fated mate, it's his loss because I have gained a beautiful angel." I smiled at that but at the same time I was curious.
"Why would your dragon want to imprint on me when I'm not a dragon?" he smiled, dropping his hands and immediately I missed the contact.
He went ahead to tell me that dragons can have mates from other species, that once a dragon takes a liking to someone, he imprints on the person and that all a dragon looks for is a kind heart and a strong body to carry his seed.
"Why would your dragon think that I'm strong?" I asked incredulously, feeling anything but.
"Ofcourse you are." he replied, taking my small hands in his larger ones, making me feel the current flowing between us.
"Well I'm not so sure," I pouted, " I couldn't even fight for my own fated mate, then how can I ever be strong?" I said weakly.
"you Don't put yourself down, you are stronger than you believe, look at you, you are not crying in self pity, I bet you are making plans to move on." I look at him in shock, how could he know that?. "Why don't you lie down and rest while I go bring food for us to eat." he patted the side of my head.
All if a sudden, I felt bone-weary tired as if all the stress had finally taken its toll on me, I laid down on the bed, sleeping under the tree stump had not done any good for me but the soft mattress right here was calling my name. I stretched, enjoying the feel and immediately went to sleep.
