The morning arrived and darkness subsided.Ajay with his serious and no nonsense behavior arrived at office. He walk like he owns the World while his sharp, tailored suit and perfectly styled hair make him look devilishly handsome,—a man who has power, money and is successful.Aryan, best friend of Ajay is gone for a work related meeting so Ajay was not in a good mood.He is missing him badly because he is like his brother who helps him with everything.
Kavya, on the other hand, wore a soft, pastel blouse and a pencil skirt, she was the epitome of beauty. Her office was filled with books—small comforts that she keeps to find peace from her hectic routine. She was a hardworking worker who loved her work. But her timid nature often left her struggling under the weight of Ajay’s behavior.
Their morning meeting with Mr. Akash Sharma, the owner of a rival company, was one of the most difficult tasks. The tension can be felt easily. Ajay, serious as ever saw the project presentation thoroughly. She often gets attracted to his confidence. The way he could command a room was a skill she greatly admired but that was out of reach for her.
When the clock turned ten, Mr. Akash walked in the room. His presence was little dark and was giving negative vibes. He carried himself with an arrogant attitude, his aura is speaking of a different kind of power. As he settled down, Kavya tried to prepare herself for the meeting, though nerves bubbled in her stomach.
The meeting proceeds, the three of them exchanging corporate pleasantries while planning future works. Just as Ajay began laying out their proposals, Kavya felt someone’s gaze on her—a heavy, unwanted stare that made her skin crawl.
Mr. Akash leaned back in his chair, a predatory smile creeping across his face as he leaned toward her. "Well, Kavya, it's nice to finally meet you. I've heard you are very good at your job," he said, his voice dripping with intensity.
Kavya's cheeks flushed, and though she knew she should respond in a nice way but failed to do so because of her nature. Instead, she offered a small smile, hoping it would be enough to end this topic and proceed back to presentation.
“Oh, um, thank you,” she managed, her voice barely above a whisper.
The presentation continued, but with each passing moment, Mr. Akash demeanor shifted from professional to something more unsettling. In a bold move that made Kavya scared, he leaned closer, placing a hand on her arm. “You really should join me for lunch sometime. I think i can be a better boss and offer you more things sweetheart,” he suggested, his gaze too intense.
Kavya’s heart raced; panic ran through her. She glanced at Ajay for help, whose expression had darkened. Without missing a beat, he intervened, his voice icy. “I think Kavya has enough on her plate and she is busy lately,” he said casually, stepping in closer to her side, a protective warmth coming from him. “Let’s stick to business, shall we?”.Ajay was not in a good mood already, then this Akash was creating an unwanted scene.
Scared but relieved, Kavya stepped back slightly, putting space between herself and Mr. Akash as Ajay became a saviour by coming in between. The meeting ended on serious note, with Mr. Akash’s leaving with a smirk.
Shen they come back in office, Kavya, shaken, murmured, “Thank you,Sir. I… I don’t know what I would have done without you,i get scared with such situations."
Ajay said it was nothing to thank for, though there was a glint of something softer in his usually hardened eyes. “It's nothing, Kavya. Keep your head up confidently and stay attentive. Don’t let people like him intimidate you.”
Kavya nodded, warmth filled her chest but she couldn't shake off the dreadful feeling away. The scene scared her the rest of the day, and the workload felt heavier than usual.
The following morning was gloomy. The rain poured down as if the clouds themselves were pouring out their sorrows. Kavya gazed out of her window, watching the droplets pour down the glass. The office is bustling but Kavya feels suffocated, caught in her thoughts from the previous day.
As the hours passed, the rain intensified, turning the busy streets into rivers of water. Ajay, always demanding, threw more tasks her way, pushing deadlines that felt impossible. By the time the shift ended, the rain was pouring heavily with no ends.
Kavya glanced at the clock, anxiety creeping in—she knew she wouldn’t make it home in this weather. The thought of getting drenched in the downpour sent chills down her spine. She was in the pool of thought of what to do because no cab service would come in this weather.
“Kavya, why are you still here? It’s pouring outside,” Ajay said with a hint of irritation, barely looking up from his laptop.
“I was just… waiting for the rain to slow down a bit,” she admitted, her voice barely rising above a whisper.
Ajay sighed, shutting his laptop with a thud. “This isn’t going to let up anytime soon. You’ll be soaked if you go home by waiting for a cab . Do you want a lift?”
Kavya's heart raced at the offer, but her mind wasn't allowing her to cross the professional boundary. She hesitated, fiddling with her pen on the desk. “I don’t want to impose…”
Ajay rolled his eyes, looking at her. “It’s not an imposition. Are you really going to spend the night here out of stubbornness?”
The gentle insistence in his voice made her feel a warmth spreading through her, she felt a new feeling from his different demeanor. “If you’re sure, that would really help,” she finally said.
“Good. Let’s get going then.” Ajay stood and grabbed his jacket, his demeanor changed from strict to someone more approachable.
As they walked out together, Kavya noted the sound of the raindrops striking the roads. The air was harsh, and the scent of the rain was surprisingly soothing. Ajay led her to his car, the shiny black sedan.
Once inside the car, Kavya felt the tension she’d been carrying began to vanish. They crossed through a water filled street. Ajay’s focus was unwavering as he glanced occasionally at the road and then back to the rain-soaked city.
“Are you always this quiet?” he asked casually, breaking the silence that had settled in the car from the time they sat in the car.
Kavya shrugged, glancing out at the blurred scenery. “I just… I guess I’m not as comfortable talking in situations like this.”
“Relax, Kavya. You’re safe, and it’s just us, remember?” he said, his tone gentler than she was used to. “You can be yourself.”
She turned to look at him, surprise flowing inside her. “You’re right. I’m sorry for how I was reacting before. I just...” the words bubbled out “I don’t know how to handle people like Mr. Akash. I felt so small and frightened.”
Ajay’s jaw tightened as he felt a little protective when Akash was talking to her like that, the memory of the event still fresh in his mind. “No one should ever make you feel that way. You have every right to your space, and no one can disrespect that. You did nothing wrong, just be a little more confident and upfront”
Kavya’s heart warmed at his support; she felt seen for the first time in ages. “Thank you, sir. That means a lot.”
You’re welcome. Then they reached the destination and he left after dropping her.
