The Betrayal

Ch14:. The Betrayal Lena’s POV The darkness in Damian’s soundproofed room was suffocating. I couldn’t tell if it was day or night—only the tick-tick-tick of a metronome on his desk, counting down seconds like a bomb. Damian had locked me in after rescuing me from Lucian. "For your own good," he’d said, his voice a velvet blade. His fingers had been gentle as he bandaged my wrists, but his eyes were cold, calculating. "You’re mine, Lena. Never forget that." I swallowed hard, my throat raw from screaming. The scent of whiskey and leather clung to the air—his scent. It should have comforted me. Instead, it made my skin crawl. A knock at the door. Damian entered, his shirt unbuttoned, his knuckles bruised from the fight with Lucian. He set a tray on the bed: tea, toast, pills. "Eat." I stared at the food. "Is this another test?" His lips twitched. "You’re learning." I reached for the tea, my hand shaking. "Where’s Lucian?" Damian’s eyes darkened. "Gone. For now." "You didn’t kill him." "No." He leaned in, his breath hot against my ear. "But I will." A shiver ran down my spine. Then I saw it—a folded note beneath the tray. Damian didn’t notice as I slid it into my palm. --- The note read: "Damian didn’t tell you the truth about your mother, did he? Meet me at the old docks. Midnight. Come alone, or I’ll send the video to every news outlet in the city." — L --- Damian’s POV (Flashback – The Night Viktor Died) The study reeked of cigar smoke and blood. Viktor lay slumped in his chair, a single gunshot to his temple. His will was clutched in my hand—everything to me, nothing to Lucian. I heard the door creak. Lucian stood there, pale, his hands trembling. "You did this." I didn’t deny it. "He was going to cut you loose. You were never his heir." Lucian’s voice cracked. "You’re a liar." I smirked. "Prove it." He lunged. I caught his wrist, twisting until he gasped. "You’re weak, Lucian. That’s why he never wanted you." His eyes burned with hatred. "I’ll make you pay." I shoved him away. "Try." --- Lena’s POV (Present) I waited until Damian left, then unfolded the note again. Midnight. The docks. I knew it was a trap. But I needed answers. Damian had lied to me—about Lucian, about his mother, about everything. I ripped a strip from the bedsheet, tying it around my wrist like a tourniquet. If I was walking into hell, I’d do it armed. The clock struck 11:45 PM. I slipped out the window. --- Lucian’s POV She came. Lena stood at the edge of the docks, the moonlight casting shadows under her eyes. She looked broken. Perfect. I stepped from the darkness, smiling. "I knew you’d come." She clutched her wrists. "What do you want?" I held up a USB drive. "The truth." "Damian said you’re lying." I laughed. "Damian lies to everyone. Even himself." I pressed play on my phone. A video flickered to life—Damian, younger, arguing with a woman. "You were never supposed to find out!" Lena’s breath caught. "That’s not—" "Your mother?" I grinned. "Oh, it is. And she didn’t kill herself, Lena. He made sure of it." Lena staggered, her face white. I closed the distance, my voice a whisper. "He’s not the hero, darling. He’s the villain." Behind her, the warehouse door creaked. Damian stepped out, a gun in his hand. His voice was deadly calm. "Run, Lena." I laughed. "Too late." --- Damian’s POV I knew she’d come. Lena was predictable—too curious, too trusting. But seeing her stand there, betrayal in her eyes, something snapped inside me. Lucian smirked. "She knows, brother." I raised the gun. Lena stepped between us. "Don’t." "Move," I growled. She didn’t. "You’re lying to me. Both of you." Lucian’s smile faltered. I lowered the gun. "Fine." I grabbed Lena’s arm, dragging her toward the car. "We’re leaving." Lucian called after us, "This isn’t over!" I ignored him. But as we drove away, Lena whispered, "Was any of it real?" I didn’t answer. Because the truth would destroy us both. --- Key Elements of Chapter 14 1. The Betrayal Deepens: Lucian manipulates Lena with evidence of Damian’s lies.
