——–——————–———————————–——————–———————————–——————–——————————— Third Person POV. When Nicholas first saw the golden necklace, he instantly realised it wasn't just a normal necklace. Similar to the book Faye had also taken, there was a sense of something intertwined with it. He wasn't sure why items like that seemed drawn to Faye, or the other way around but his suspicions were starting to rise.  He saw the hesitated look on Fayes face when he took the necklace from her, he knew she wasn't worried about losing an expensive or striking necklace. She was reluctant in losing it because of the feeling she got from it, the strange connection she felt.  Phantom seemed to have something to do with it as she silently reprimanded him for getting her in trouble. Nicholas mentally shook his head, another girl who talked to the cat, he thought. The sight of the cat stirred many emotions in Nicholas, emotions he had shut behind an iron door with an unbreakable lock.  The human girl had been able to provoke some response from those emotions too, for whatever reason Nicholas didn't know. She was oblivious to that but Phantom knew he affected Nicholas, he could sense the inner turmoil that had boiled in Nicholas since that day. Since the day she left.  Nicholas had hoped the cat would leave when she did, but much to his dismay the cat stayed. Nicholas would shut it out of his room, an attempt to shut the cat out of his life but Phantom quickly learnt how to open the door himself. He pushed his way in, annoyingly stubborn just like she was. She was the only one who could win against Nicholas.  It didn't surprise Nicholas much when Phantom took a liking to Faye, he was sure she had a pure soul. Faye had a few similar traits as her too, but at the same time they were vastly different.  Nicholas walked up the steps to the church, glancing around the dark forest before entering. The only light from the torches lining the walls. The church was watched by the council, of course Nicholas was the main one to use Gerald but other council members would come here too but only those strong enough to withstand the bone crushing feeling of the holy place.  Nicholas didn't follow protocol, he was under his own control in the council. Many were suspicious of Nicholas and didn't like the way he worked, some knew Nicholas did everything secretly. Though Nicholas shouldn't go to Gerald on a personal run, he did, so he always had to keep watch on who would be around when he did. After all, he didn't want others catching on to him.  Gerald had sensed Nicholas would be coming sometime soon so he wasn't surprised when he stepped out of the back to see Nicholas sauntering up the aisle. He offered Nicholas a smile, which he ignored as usual.  "Faye?" Gerald asked knownly.  Nicholas stopped in front of him, pulling a golden necklace with a blood red ruby. It instantly piqued Geralds interest, he could sense it wasn't an average necklace already.  "She got it from a village where we hunted berserks. She didn't mean to bring it back but it fell in her pocket."  "I see." Gerald took the necklace and studied it. "Well I will confirm your suspicions, it isn't an average necklace. It seems to be infused or have been created by magic."  Nicholas grimaced. "Find out what type of magic it holds."  "You still think something is targeting her?" Gerald asked.  "Why else would magical things keep appearing around her." Nicholas semi growled.  He wasn't angry at Gerald, he was angry because he knew there were other reasons why but he refused to acknowledge them yet.  Gerald chuckled. "I will test what magic it is."  Nicholas followed Gerald into the back, not before letting his eyes sweep around the room incase someone had got in. If other council members caught wind of the strange occurrences with his new pet, things would not go down very smoothly.  The room was filled with herbs and magical instruments that were legal to be in possession by Gerald. Many of them weren't usable any more, their magical properties being drained so they were simply objects that could be studied.  Gerald took the necklace to a bench in the middle of the room. He placed it down before rummaging through everything.  "It doesn't appear to have any harmful magic in it, otherwise it would have reacted to my touch." He spoke, bringing a few different jars and liquids over. One of which had an old index finger floating in it. "How exactly did she find it?"  "There was a berserk, he wasn't fully gone and Faye noticed this. She took interest in it. When I killed the berserk it smashed the floor boards, she saw the necklace under the floor and grabbed it." Nicholas spoke, crossing his arms over his chest as he watched Gerald pour different liquids over the necklace.  "A berserk who was still conscious? Interesting."  After trying everything and getting no reaction from the necklace, Gerald grabbed the finger from the jar. The finger was purple, the nail a rotten black. It was the finger of an evil witch Nicholas had killed years ago, the finger was reserved to be used like this and tested on. Even though the witch was dead, their magic courses through their veins, meaning the dark magic was still in the blood in the reserved finger.  Gerald held the finger above the necklace and whispered incoherent words. Blood seeped through the skin of the finger and dropped on the necklace. The minute the blood hit the necklace it sizzled and dissolved. Gerald put the finger away and smiled.  "The necklace has protective magic in it. It repels dark magic." Gerald looked at Nicholas. "It seems this time you are wrong Nicholas, somethings protecting Faye."  Nicholas's eyes narrowed on the necklace, even for him this was beginning to make no sense. At first it seemed something was targeting her but now it seemed protective magic was literally falling in her lap. Something wasn't right, suspicion rose in his body.  He needed to figure out why these things kept happening to an ordinary human girl.  ——–——————–———————————–——————–———————————–——————–——————————— Fayes POV A few days passed, nothing exciting happened. Nicholas was rather quiet and was barely around. I knew his father was still trying to talk to him, to which Nicholas seemed the least bit interest and was always away doing work.  I carried on with my 'life' as usual, well as usual as it has been since I was taken by Nicholas. I did my little chores and then studied the books Clara would give me. A few were too complex for me to read so she would come and help my reading and writing get better.  It was peaceful without Nicholas, as peaceful as it could be in a house full of blood sucking monsters at least. It did feel strange not having him and his annoyingness around, I guess I had gotten use to his company being trapped with it all this time. Sometimes I found myself unconsciously glancing at the door, I wasn't sure why. Perhaps I was waiting for someone to return.  Phantom hung with me during these days, well most days. His company was good for my mind, it didn't feel like I was just with a cat, it felt like I was with someone special, who I had known for ages. Phantom seemed to have a way of calming my wandering mind or emotions, he made it easier for me to focus and study.  The door suddenly opened, causing my head to snap to it. Nicholas walked in, the same blank and cold expression he had for the past few days. I noticed the golden necklace in his hand and my heart started beating faster.  He locked eyes with me while he walked towards me, stopping directly in front of me. He studied my expression for a minute before reaching his hand out, unballing his fist to reveal the necklace.  "You can keep it." "I can?" My eyes widened slightly.  Nicholas nodded. "I have no need for a necklace. You found it, it is yours."  I studied his eyes before gently taking it from his hand. "Thank you." I whispered.  He stood still, his hawk eyes watching me. It was like he was expecting something to happen when I took the necklace, I held it in my hand, a gentle warmth where it lay. After what seemed like decades, Nicholas finally turned away and stood in front of his book shelf.  I furrowed my eyebrows at his behaviour but quickly turned my attention to the necklace. It looked exactly as it had the day he took it, I wondered where he had taken it. What would he need the necklace for? Phantom brushed up against my hand, ridding my mind of the thoughts I had. I scratched under his jaw, making him purr happily.  It was nice having someone else in this house, even if that someone was a cat who couldn't talk to me. I wondered if I was supernatural if talking to Phantom would be a possibility. Nicholas always seemed to speak with Phantom through their eyes. It was strange but I wanted to know what they were saying.  Nicholas left the room abruptly. He returned after a small period of time, I noticed he had his business stone cold face on. I was instantly alert by it.  "Get up." Nicholas said as he walked past me, heading to his drawers. "We are going."  He searched through his drawers and I caught a glimpse of the familiar black and gold revolver, my eyes widened slightly. He put his holster on and secured the gun, after checking that it was fully loaded, my eyes were glued to him the whole time.  His eyes snapped to mine, making my frozen limbs move. I stood up, placing Phantom on the couch and heading to my stash to put the necklace away, but before I could reach it, a hand wrapped around my arm halting my movements. I stared up at Nicholas who I hadn't even realised had moved.  "Bring the necklace." He said. "Wear it."  My eyes widened again. "Why?"  "Just do as I say Fairy." He grumbled out.  "But Master, I don't think it is acceptable I wear something like this in public."  "Just wear it. Hide the pendant under your dress." He didn't give me a chance to put the necklace away as he snatched it from my grip and moved behind me. I sucked in a breath when he put the necklace around my neck and done it up. "Besides. No one will question it while you're with me."    His tone was almost smug, but I believed I was hearing wrong as his mood for the past few days had been so stone cold and void. He spun me around and pulled me with him, grabbing the coat I wore that was hanging on the door. He didn't release my wrist while we walked down the stairs and to the front door, only when we stepped outside did his hand drop.  He passed me the coat and I gratefully put it on, tucking the necklace under my dress. The chain was still visible but hopefully it wouldn't gather any looks. We walked to the carriage and climbed in.   "Where are we going Master?" I asked softly, studying him.  He glanced at me. "A few vampires have just been killed." He spoke with no sympathy.  For some reason, my heart quickened up at his words. "Why am I coming?"  He studied my reaction, obviously aware of my change of heart rate. "Since when did I answer to you?"  I gulped at the coldness in his voice. "Well it's just that I haven't gone with you on a job for a few days."  "Because nothing interesting had happened, until now."  I was somewhat shocked at his complete uncaring behaviour but at the same time, It wasn't anything new but I thought he'd be a little sympathetic over the death of his own kind. I really shouldn't be though, I already knew he didn't care about anyone.  "Why is it interesting?" I asked, my mouth was slowly becoming dry.  Nicholas studied me with dead eyes. I was worried he could tell why I was reacting the way I was. I didn't mean to behave like that, but certain thoughts were swirling around my mind and I couldn't help but worry. After what Karter had told me the other day, the death of the vampires sparked too many chaotic thoughts.  "Why are you asking so many questions?" His question made my eyes widen, did he know why and was trying to get me to confess? After what seemed like hours of horrible silence he spoke again. "The vampires were killed with a weapon that was forged with magic. It seems the rebellion has struck."  His words didn't ease the worries I wanted them to, they simply made me more nervous. I couldn't hold my gaze with him any longer and broke it, staring at the ground while my hands fumbled together in my lap. I needed to calm down, Nicholas was sharp and he already knew my behaviour was strange. It wouldn't take long before he realised why.  I closed my eyes and prayed it wasn't Karters 'friends'.
