I followed his long strides down the hall, half jogging to keep up with his 'on a mission' walk.
"Where are we going Master?" I asked.
"I have been thinking how bold you have gotten with questions lately Fairy."
My steps faltered for a second before I caught back up with him. Was he punishing me? But why the nice dress then, Nicholas was too confusing. Neither of us uttered another word as we continued down the stairs. I caught a few dirty looks from the maids again, I glared back sick of their attitude. Some looked confused at my attire and possibly the evil smirk that was plastered on Nicholas's perfect face.
I sighed, following Nicholas outside and to the carriage. At least it wasn't as cold as it had been the past few days but winter was still coming, slowly and inevitable like a plague. I climbed into the carriage after Nicholas, settling in my usual spot opposite him.
"Tea." Nicholas suddenly spoke, causing me to furrow my eyebrows.
"Tea?" I repeated.
He nodded but didn't attempt to explain. I sat still the whole ride while I tried to make sense of the mad thoughts Nicholas may of had in his mind. The carriage stopped not long after, I stared out the window gawking at the pristine marble mansion that stood tall.
"Try your best to behave aye Fairy. These vampires have small tolerance for pets." He smirked as he stepped down from the carriage.
My eyes felt like they would fall from the sockets and roll to the ground. This was a punishment, right? I jogged up to him, stumbling on a small rock on the cobble path. I cursed silently earning a chuckle from Nicholas. Before we had even reached the door, it opened quickly.
A tall girl with a bright pink frilly dress stepped out, her fangs on show as a cloying smile spread on her face. I grimaced at her expression, her eyes were glued to Nicholas so I knew she would pay me no mind but when we got closer I composed my features and tried to not gag at her horrible perfume.
Nicholas smiled charmingly. "Claudia."
"Nicholas! How good it is to see you again!" Her voice was almost as sickening as her expression.
Her eyes were red, nowhere near as bright or dangerous as Nicholas's. Her skin pale like the snow but her hair was as black as the night, a stark contrast. Unfortunately she had the natural beauty most vampires did but regardless her horribly mawkish expressions made her unappealing on the eyes. She was no doubt infatuated with Nicholas, I somewhat pitied him for it.
"As it is you." He said, his tone different from the many he uses with me.
She blushed and ushered him inside. "Please, come sit. The others were waiting for you."
I fought the urge to roll my eyes as we followed her inside. Her house seemed to match her attire, most decorations were different shades of pink along with the wallpaper, the majority of her furniture were white, a few a light oak wood. We were lead into a lounge with plus white couches and a grand crystal chandelier, I barely had time to look around the room as my eyes quickly found the prying eyes of five other vampires.
Unlike 'Claudia', they seemed more interested in me, making me want to shrink into a corner. They greeted Nicholas, taking their suffocating gazes off me. I noticed six humans littered around the room, all their heads were down, eyes trained on the ground. They were pets. I could tell but their presentable by cheap clothing and the bruises that littered their pale skin.
I felt eyes on me and glanced up to see Nicholas staring down at me, a knowing smirk on his lips.
"I didn't think you'd bring your pet Nicholas." A male vampire spoke, his eyes snapped to me.
I stared at him for a matter of seconds, taking in his appearance before I lowered my gaze to the floor. His brown hair matched his light brown eyes, I remembered what Clara had taught me about vampires eyes. His weren't dark brown or bland, so he wasn't an average vampire. His eyes were light brown with a fleck of electricity, he was like Clara, a generation that could change their eyes from red to a natural colour.
"Well I wouldn't want to be left out." Nicholas bit out in a mordant tone, his smirk turned sardonic.
It was clear he wasn't fond of that vampire and both parties were very obvious of that. Nicholas was the type who purposely stood out and enjoyed it.
"No, of course not."
"Come sit Nic!" Claudia's voice rang out through the room, prompting Nicholas to sit on one of the couches.
I stood by the arm of the chair where Nicholas sat. My eyes kept wandering to the zombie-like pets, hoping one of them would catch my gaze but none of them did. I sighed and unfortunately caught the gaze of the male vampire from before. I held the gaze for a moment too long, his lips curled up in a hell bringing smirk, his fangs on show as he dragged his tongue over them. I gulped and snapped my head down, giving a sideway glance to Nicholas who was busy talking to Claudia, or should I say listening.
I stood for what seemed like hours, nothing interesting happening until a harsh slap rang out through the room. I snapped my head up, wide eyes on the pet who had been slapped so hard she fell to the ground, her weak legs unable to hold her up. Blood dripped from her lip but she dared not move while her mistress stood above her.
"You incompetent fool!" The vampire shrieked causing the pet to shake in fear. "This dress cost more than you could ever imagine!"
"I apologise Mistress. It was an accident." Her words trembled uncontrollably. Her words did no good, the vampire kicked her harshly.
I gasped at the sickening crack that came from the pets ribcage, my own body started to shake but I wasn't sure if it was from fear or anger.
"Fairy." I heard a whisper to my left and slowly pulled my eyes away from the scene. "Stop gawking." He warned quietly.
His words met deaf ears as my eyes instantly found their way back to the pet lying on the floor, I couldn't look away. She didn't move a muscle, I couldn't even see if her chest was moving up and down. I thought she was dead.
"You puny bitch." The vampire spat at the unmoving body.
She was dead.
I stumbled backwards a step, my body becoming heavy and weak. In doing so I knocked the end table behind me, the scraping sound seemed as if it echoed through the dead silent room. All eyes snapped to me, causing the room to feel as if it was closing in on me. My breathing was harsh, my chest rising and falling hurriedly.
"You insolent little witch." The vampire seethed out, my eyes locked with her flaming red ones.
She was going to kill me too.
I wanted to run but I knew the chance of escaping a room full of vampires was nil. She started to stalk towards me, her fangs elongated and her nails sharp like claws. My body was frozen to the spot, I needed a weapon. She reached me before I was able to blink my stinging eyes.
Her claws reached out and scratched my shoulder, tearing the short sleeve of the dress. I instantly felt the blood running down my arm. Her hand wrapped around my neck tightly, stopping the air from getting to my lungs easily. I clawed at her hand, I wouldn't die by her hand or at least I'd die trying to stop her. My lungs screamed at the lack of air they were getting, my face no doubt starting to turn blue from lack of oxygen.
I managed to slice the skin on her hand with my nail in attempt to get away but she barely budged, instead she tightened her hand. The crushing feeling of drowning consumed me, my body felt as if I was weighted under the water. Images of the lake flashed through my mind, of me sinking to the bottom of a dark lake while my fight to swim to the surface was futile.
My eyes slid shut. My father flashed through my mind, his hand reaching under the water as he pulled me from the darkness but suddenly the water wasn't blue anymore. It was stained red with blood as his lifeless body floated beside mine. My eyes snapped open, a slight burning sensation on my neck, the vampire suddenly stumbled backwards and stared at her hand that had been around my throat only moments ago.
I dropped to the floor, sucking in as much air as I could. My mind was foggy and my body weak. I heard footsteps coming towards me, I glanced up to see the vampire coming for the kill again. Before she could reach me, my view was obstructed by Nicholas's frame as he stood in front of me.
The vampire paused, the fury in her eyes turned to confusion as she stared at Nicholas. "What are you doing?"
"I could ask you the same." Nicholas said codly.
Her features furrowed. "I'm punishing the ill-mannered witch!" She shrieked like he was insane.
"No you are not." He said simply, it was obvious he wasn't going to move and the vampire was far to weak and scared of Nicholas to try pass him.
"What?" She stared at Nicholas as if he grew four heads.
"I said no." He growled, I knew for a fact, Nicholas didn't like repeating himself.
"You won't punish her for the disrespect she showed!?" Her eyes filled with the fury from before, mixed with utter disbelief.
"I will see fit to punishing her in a more practical way than kicking her to death." Nicholas bit out harshly.
The vampire was clearly distraught from the insolent tone Nicholas held. I kept swallowing the air in, wondering if being kicked to death would be better than the punishment Nicholas was going to dish out for me.
"Dorothy." Claudia suddenly spoke up, warning her friend not to challenge Nicholas any further.
Dorothy huffed angrily before storming out. Claudia rose from the couch glancing at Nicholas and glaring at me. "I hope this is her last day on earth." She said before chasing after Dorothy.
I'm sure it would be. Nicholas turned to me, staring down at me with angry eyes. "Get up."
I slowly pulled myself up, a dizzy spell hit me, I stumbled and if it wasn't for the arms that steadied me, I would've fallen on the ground again. I looked up at Nicholas but was well aware of the four other pairs of eyes watching us.
"Sorry Master." I mumbled incoherently as I still gasped for air.
He stood still for a few minutes, keeping me up until I was able to stand on my own.
"Go wait in the carriage." He said stepping backwards, I didn't move at first. "Now!" He growled.
I bowed my head and stumbled towards the exit. I heard voices but couldn't comprehend what was being said. If I wasn't so dizzy and weak, I could make a mad dash for it once I was outside but in my current state Nicholas would catch me before I made it far, or worse Dorothy might.
I moved as fast as I could, collapsing against the carriage when I finally reached it. My breathing steadied a small amount as I caught my breath, I closed my eyes and gently brought my hand to my aching throat. I wondered why she stopped strangling me, it was like she got a shock from my skin. After a few minutes of bliss silence and peace, I heard footsteps. I turned thinking it was Nicholas but unfortunately the vampire who stood in front of me was not Nicholas but the man from earlier.
Chills consumed my body as my eyes widened. I was trapped against the carriage by him, everyone was trying to kill me, this was not my day.
"Hello again." He smirked. "I don't think I had the pleasure of learning your name."
I gulped. "Faye." My voice was barely above a whisper.
He stepped agonisingly closer. I sucked in a breath as I watched as his eyes turned a hungry red. His brought his hand up to my shoulder, swiping his finger along the cut from Dorothy. He pulled his arm back, bringing his finger to his lips, covered in my blood. He licked the blood off, smirking at my expression.
"Mmm tasty." My body froze as he leant down and placed his lips on my shoulder before sinking his fangs in. I screamed but his other hand covered my mouth, quieting my painful screams. When he finally pulled away, my blood dripped down his chin. "You're very interesting Faye."
Suddenly there was another shadow. "And you're very moronic." Nicholas's voice growled as the vampires head slid off his neck, dropping to the ground and rolling at my feet.
His body fell backwards, Nicholas swiftly stepping to the side while he wiped his blood soaked hand on his handkerchief, completely unbothered.
I wanted to scream but the only thing that left my lips was a terrified gasp. Nicholas stepped forward, his hands wrapping around my waist as he threw me into the carriage before I had time to wrap my mind around what he just did.
