The Bella's have a subtle look on their face as their gaze moved from Dylan to me in a split second. They wanted to speak but only whispers could be heard.
“How is she better than my beloved Janet?” Mrs Bella broke the silence as her eyebrows furrowed upwards.
Mr Bella hands moved to his moustache as he played with his moustache. He didn't add to what his wife said but his eyes didn't leave mine like he was trying to size me up.
“I heard she's a bodyguard that caused issues before you guys got married.” A giggle left Mrs Bella's lips “Don't tell me you like them poor and useless?”
“Who said I was useless?”
The words left my lips as I placed the fork on the table. They both stared at me, their jaws fallen as they watched me crack my knuckles.
“I might not be rich or wealthy to your standard but that doesn't mean I would sit here and watch you insult my existence.”
Dylan's hand found my shoulder and he brought me closer to him. The scent of his sweet and expensive perfume wafted through my nose before he whispered into my ears.
“Don't overdo it darling. They are much more worse than your former boss and would bunt you after our contract is over.”
I didn't fold under his words, they couldn't see me as a weak peasant they could trample upon and if they would hold a grudge then it would be for me deforming the insultive smile on Mrs Bella's face.
“Let's talk about the contract, Little Brat.”
The tense atmosphere of the room lessened as they began speaking about the deal between both corporations. I listened in on their talks about the billion dollar project but I couldn't enjoy every moment.
Mrs Bella had already begun to hold a grudge, her eyes sending daggers towards me as she held up a frown.
After ignoring her for almost an hour, she couldn't take it anymore.
“Are you truly this disrespectful?” She spat out.
“Disrespectful?” I held up a fake smile.
The men in the room could only watch as they hadn't paid attention to what was happening beside them. No, they didn't care about the petty grudge and disagreement that had been brewing silently in our minds.
“Don't get cocky because this little brat decided to marry you. At the end of the day, Janet will return to this mansion and our families will have an alliance.”
“My husband here won't accept it.” I wrapped my hands around Dylan, standing on my toes before placing a kiss on his cheeks.
“How dare you!”
A loud chuckle erupted in the room and continued for a while. Mr Bella had laughed so hard that his belly had begun to hurt and he had to stop midway to look at his wife's face that was filled with rage.
“She really is a wild one.” He chuckled as he rose to his feet.
“We have a done deal.” A smile lurked on his lips. “Take care of her, Dylan. Don't toss her out of the window this time.”
“She's not easy to throw out the window.” Dylan replied with a low chuckle, his gaze lingering on my flustered face.
“Interesting.” Mrs Bella let out a smile.
Mr Bella and Mrs Bella left after they spoke to Isabella and Juliana. I didn't know what sort of connection they had but the glare Isabella sent after their talk gave me an uneasy feeling.
Dyaln and I returned to the small room where the round table stood with the roses littered on the floor. We sat opposite each other, silence filling the room as the chefs arrived with another meal.
Never heard of desert after dinner though.
We ate in silence, stealing glimpses at each other with each gulp. No one wanted to break the silence and he had that annoying smirk plastered on his lips.
The sound of the rings on his hair colliding made it feel like I was in front of a shaman and that sinister presence had returned.
I veered around, the empty halls greeting me back along with the dim lights that slightly lit up the passages.
“When you said that I wasn't ready, what did you mean?”
My curiosity got the best of me and I blurted out the question regardless of what he was going to say.
“You look very inexperienced for someone who seduced Fred. I mean, I know Fred is a horrible man with very low self control and a heart of steel but he shouldn't have preyed on a little girl such as yourself.”
“I'm not a little girl.”
“You think like one.”
“Excuse me?”
“I mean what I said.” He repeated those words despite the death glares I was sending him.
“I warned you about Mrs Bella, that in this corrupt little world of ours, the rich decide who gets to speak and who gets to live. You decided to speak…”
“You decided to stare and watch them insult your so-called wife.” I countered.
“You need to be disciplined.” He held up a smirk.
“No, I need to get some good night's rest.” I stood up, stabbing my fork into the half eaten chicken before storming up the stairs and leaving Dylan alone in the dimly lit room.
I slammed the door behind me before jumping out of the bed.
A smile slowly crept onto my face. I had always wanted to do that to a man that wasn't my boss and watch him hold up that annoying smirk as I walked away.
The chances of me escaping this mansion and living for another year was non-existent as every rich man I had offended would hunt me down and do some horrible things to me.
The thoughts gave me the creeps but none of that mattered when it came to enjoying the benefits that came with this contract.
Maybe this contract isn't a bad thing after all and I could achieve a lot and change things for the better. I could even find the devils that killed my parents and swept the case under the rugs.
The sound of the creaking door disrupted my thoughts and my mind crumbled under the realization that I hadn't closed the door.
The pillow next to me vanished in an instant, and a fluffy cushion pressed down on my face as I turned to see who had walked into the room.
“You really thought you could stand up to the rich you pauper.” A masculine voice laced with killing intent echoed in the room.
