Autumn in the snow

1692 Words
Amelia was making her speciality rabbit soup inside their old but warm house while Elise helped prepare the food. Amelia is preparing a small occasion for the delightful young girl’s birthday, Elise. After helping her sister, Elise visits her small garden of flowers in her room. Looking at the beautiful night-blooming flower, as she thought, will you show your beauty tonight? She waits for the flower’s response, causing her to startle from the sudden knocking on her door. “Elise, are you in there?” Amelia asked. Sighing with relief as Elise stands to answer the door, “Yes, I’m here,” she said. “Hey there, little one, are you excited?” Amelia asked. “Excited?” She replied. “Yes, haven’t you noticed or heard those soft trudges outside?” Amelia said. “What is it, sister?” Elise asked. “Move your flabby legs and look at the window,” Amelia said teasingly. Frowning as she calls her sister’s name, Elise drags her feet to the window and checks outside. Her emerald eyes widened upon seeing the snowfall outside; it was her wish, after all. “It’s snowing, sis! It’s snowing now!” she said. “Yes, it is. It’s grey, dark, cold, and boring,” Amelia said in an apathetic voice. Ignoring her disinterested sister, Elise darts back to her room to wear her mittens. “It’s finally here, sis!” Elise said as she ran outside. Upon getting outside, Elise copes with a ball of snow. Then, she gets back in the house and locks on her target. “She’s a huge prey,” Elise uttered. “Hey! What do you mean, huge!” Amelia said. She looks in her direction, only to be hit by the snowball; it smacks on her forehead as she makes a weak whimper. Elise nods in comprehension. “Boring, I see, I see,” she said in a mischievous voice. Amelia rushes into her room to prepare for the cold outside while Elise waits outside, planning to ambush her. Little did she know Amelia uses the back door to circle her way back out to unsuspecting Elise. Then, with snowballs on hand, she called out to her. “Hey, flabby legs, now you’ll get it!” Elise runs away for cover upon hearing her sister’s voice at the back. Amelia bombards Elise with snowballs with a devilish look; she continues firing as she giggles without mercy. “Run your flabby legs!” Amelia said teasingly. Having enough from all hits she received, Elise uses an extraordinary move, a snow smokescreen; with both hands, she digs a pile of snow and throws it into the air, blocking the view of Amelia. Elise, while hidden from the fog of snow, darts to Amelia’s side without her suspecting. However, what soon followed was Elise’s revenge as she consecutively hurled snowballs at Amelia. “Alright! I’m sorry for calling your legs flabby!” Amelia said laughingly. “It’s not fat!” Elise said. “Yes, just cute!” Amelia replied, surrendering to the fight. On the snowy road nearby, Lady Munzen can be seen holding a baked pie as she walks towards them, and with her is another beautiful woman. In her autumn-like hair is a handcrafted foliage headwear as if the season autumn walked slow and weary on the cold land. Kassandra is what Lady Munzen calls her. “Thank you for bringing me with you, Lady Munzen. I hate to trouble you with this, but I just needed to know,” Kassandra said. “It’s not a problem at all, Lady Kassandra. I’m glad you are getting better,” Munzen said. “I am as well, and Axar has grown into a responsible young man. He is helping me a lot with just about everything,” Kassandra said. They continue to trudge on the inch-length snow, noticing the two sisters outside having fun as they send a few waves. Amelia and Elise stopped playing around as they approached and greeted the two ladies. Instead, they bow to each of them as they speak their names, “Lady Munzen, Lady Kassandra,” they said in a surprised and saddened tone as soon as they see Kassandra. They stopped for a while, staring at each other; it has been sometimes since they visited the sisters. “Is there any news about your father?” Kassandra asked in a hopeful tone. “It will get colder soon, so we should talk inside,” Amelia said. “That is better. As I have brought you both a strawberry pie, you don’t want it cold. I made it myself,” Lady Munzen said. The two sisters said their thanks to Lady Munzen as they accepted the gift and headed inside the house. They quietly gathered in the dining room, sitting across from each other with Amelia serving their guest with a warm rabbit soup, and she placed the strawberry pie on the centre table. Thanks to Elise speaking, the weird silent atmosphere passing across the warm walls breaks. “Thanks for the strawberry pie, Lady Munzen. ” “My pleasure, please have a taste,” Munzen said. “Oh, we can’t yet,“ Amelia said. Before Lady Munzen could ask, Lady Kassandra abruptly asked them about their father. “Has he returned? Has he shown himself to you since then?” Kassandra asked. “Lady Kassandra, I’m afraid there has been no news from my father. But I still believe that he will return to us. I can feel it,” Amelia said. Kassandra peeks below, conveying a few long breaths before she speaks again. “I understand. I, too, believe he will; until then, I need to take better care of my health for his return,” Kassandra said in a faithful tone. “Then, I will believe as well,” Elise said as she smiled at the both of them. “I’m sorry, I can’t be long. Axar is all alone taking care of my baby,” Kassandra said. “May I ask you something, Lady Kassandra?” Elise said. “Yes, my child,” Kassandra said, smiling. “What is the name of your baby?” Elise asked. Kassandra let out a surprised tone; what a terrible mother she was. Figuring she hasn’t named her baby yet, she steps closer to Elise before she speaks. “Actually, I haven’t named her yet. I’m sorry, Elise,” she said. “Oh, don’t worry about it, Lady Kassandra. But, hey, Elise, behave,” Amelia said. “I’m behaving! But I’m sure you’ll find a beautiful name for her,” Elise said. Kassandra gazes at Elise’s emerald almond-shaped eyes, thinking they had the exact shape of their eyes. “Thank you, Elise. Can I… Can I receive a hug from you?” Kassandra said. “Of course, Lady Kassandra, I would want to. You’re so beautiful,” Elise said in a warm voice. Kassandra was basked with unknown overjoy upon hearing her pleasant voice; she eagerly embraced her. Kassandra holds Elise’s adorable body that offers the warmness and kindness that she possesses, thinking how much she misses their father. “You smell like autumn, Lady Kassandra,” Elise said. She abruptly laughs as she realises, “Your father used to say that,” Kassandra said. She holds her shoulder as she stares at her emerald eye. “You got a wonderful set of eyes, Elise, a rare one. I’m sure you’ll grow into an amazing person,” Kassandra said. Elise’s green eyes sparkled as she took Kassandra’s sweet words. “You really think so?” She innocently asked. “Yes, I do! Say my baby got the same almond-shaped as your eyes; she also has that green eyes of life. I think I now know what her name will be,” Kassandra said. “You do! What will be her name?” Elise asked. Amelia, Elise, and Munzen excitedly glance at each other as they wait for Kassandra to speak. With a glint in Kassandra’s eyes and a smile of warm autumn, she speaks. “Alise! Alise Poven.” “Alise, Elise, so sweet! Our name almost sounds the same,” Elise said. “Yes, Elise, I can’t wait for you to meet her. To see you both grow up and play together, I know you will get along well together,” Kassandra said. Elise, with a playful grin on her face as she speaks, “I’m sure we will!” “That’s a lovely name, Lady Kassandra,” Amelia said. “It’s a very noble name, Lady Kassandra. I’m sure she will bring great happiness to everyone,” Lady Munzen said. Kassandra stood back as she thanked all of them. “Thank you, everyone, but I must go now. Axar is eager to help and join The Longrider,” she said. “You should meet, Ex-knight next time you visit!” Elise said. “Ex-knight? I heard he killed all those people?” Kassandra said. “Amadeus has a kind soul. I know he has. He’s a good person if you get to know him, Lady Kassandra,” Amelia said. “Alright, I understand. You are an excellent judge of character, Amelia. I trust you, and maybe I’ll get to meet him soon. Thank you for a warm welcome. Goodbye,” Kassandra said. Lady Kassandra bowed to the now troubled look of Munzen, dismissing it as she left the place. Lady Munzen is now alone with the two sisters, irritated upon hearing Amadeus’ name. A kind soul, what a pile of load sh*t, she thought.
