I knew something was fishy but I tried not to fly off the handle to listen.
Jaw tight. Patience thin.
She said again. "It seems you have found yourself a playmate, Ayla." She said the name with obvious dislike.
Like it burned her tongue.
I angrily asked. "Are you stalking me?"
But she only said. "What do you know about the mark of birthplace?"
Me, wanting her to get done with it so I could finally hit the hay. "What about it?"
The mark of birthplace. An indication made on everyone in the land Miraculous and beyond to show their birthplace logo and power. A sigil burned into the right shoulder at birth. Shows where you are from. What element claims you. No one escapes it.
She looked me in the eyes, took steps closer and said with some fear and cold happiness.
"She is not one of us."
Her voice dropped. Like a secret.
I upped my voice, patience running out.
"Speak clearly!" I said.
She finally came clean. "She is human."
She saw me budge with something like shock and fear and anger.
Fear which was unusual so she fed off it, gladdened with a cold stare.
Eyes bright. Like she found a c***k in my armor.
The room went colder.
I masked my turbulent expression and said. "Leave."
Icelynn was startled by my composure. "Did you hear me? She is the first human ever to exist here in the history of this land, you cannot keep her."
My frown deepened, making it clear I had nothing more to say, I repeated. "Leave"
I hurled a fireball at the ice sealing the door, shattered it, and launched myself into the sky through the window.
She had a point. Ayla is human? The first human to ever set foot on the land Miraculous for that matter.
This would stir divided opinions across the kingdom. Some would claim humans finally found a way to infiltrate and spy on us.
This was dangerous.
I was furious she'd kept it hidden.
Rain began to fall, dark clouds gathering, promising a violent downpour. Thunder rumbled low.
I found her somewhere in the forest. Climbing a tree, picking fruits, likely for the night.
I landed.
She smiled, warm and bright, her face fresh as if washed by the river.
Then she said, teasing. "And here was I wishing you'd drop out of the sky more often. So I could get another ride of course."
I disregarded her words.
Heat surged in my chest. I asked, irritated, why she hadn't told me.
She replied casually. "Tell you what?" As if I were overreacting.
Again. I asked if it were true. That she was human.
The word felt alien. Hazardous.
She appeared to comprehend. Her shoulders sagged. Cradling the fruit in her arms, she turned to depart forthwith. Silent.
But I moved to intercept her like greased lightning. Blocking her path. "Is that why you dwell in the forest?"
She began to panic. "Leave me be."
"I command you, show me your right shoulder?" Flames flickered at my fingertips, I could not restrain them.
"Leave me.."
"Show me!"
Exasperated at last, she complied. She pulled her sleeve down. Revealing bare skin.
There was no mark. No sigil. No emblem of birthplace. Only unmarked flesh.
