CHAPTER TWO
After eating, we baded mum bye and I entered the car. My lectures begin right in the car, listening to dad's advise and motivational quotes till I get to the school gate. Most times I reply with interest and other times I simply nod and look away.
"Be a good girl!" He said as soon as I get out of the car. I nod firmly and took to my heels.
"Good morning Ramat" hugging my best friend, my ride forever. We've been friends since primary school till now, we both have interest in science and we eventually got admitted into science department. Most times we compete for the first position after exam results are pasted, nevertheless we care for each other more like sisters. We both have the inspiration of becoming a chemistry or physics scientist just like albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton and the likes. She is from a good Muslim background who are non discriminated people.
"Good morning Hannah, how was your night rest?" Her sultry voice warm my ears, those beautiful oval smiling face welcomed me as usual, held my hands as we joined others strolling to the class and I took my seat next to her and catching up with the weekend gist for awhile before the math teacher came in.
Two hours later, we head straight to the laboratory class for chemistry subject.
We sat down at our usual spot, then the teacher began to explain more about acidic base and chemicals reaction. An hour later, we were grouped into six for a practical section. This was my favorite part of the section. I assimilate better, when I practicalize it.
We began mixing acids together and jotting down the reaction from the mixed acid, it was colorful, and I enjoyed it. We all got carried away, just when the guy next to me pour in another acid, we assume it to be a normal odourless acid instead it was a disaster. It caught fire and literally blow up, it was too sudden, all I know was that I was feeling hot than usual with intense pain. I screamed in agony, it was excruciatingly painful, screams filled my ear and my lungs felt hot and suffocating, my vision became blur and wet from the smoke, slowly darkness descended over me.
I woke up in a room filled with machines buzzing and wires connected to my plastered body. The smell was nauseating more like an antiseptic room. I tried to turn my head around but my entire body felt stiffed and the taste of my mouth was sour. This must be a dream.
"Hannah?"
That voice sounded familiar and truly it was my mother's shaking voice.
I open my mouth to talk, but I could not. It is as if a lump was stuck in it. It hurt!.
Tear envelope my eyes, I felt helpless at the sight of the situation.
"Can you hear me?". She said again scanning my eyes for reaction, my flicked my twice and she sighed softly.
I became Confused and angry at the same time. Racking my brain to figure out what happened in the first place. What time is it? What is today's date? And why was I here in this place? Then I felt a sharp pain in my head while trying to remember. "Ugmm" It was as if I was hit by a stick and I began to remember working on a chemical acid reaction in the laboratory class when it blew up. I tried moving both my hands, the right hand move perfectly fine unlike the left hand, it was numb and painful. I whine out and she quickly held on to my hand sobbing and chanting a quick praise to the Lord.
The door opened and a group of people came in wearing some kind of white or cream color jacket. One of them was carrying a small silver tray filled with stuff I hardly see.
"Seems like our princess is finally awake" the tall one amongst them said in a husky voice.
"Yes doc, please check on her, she isn't talking" my poor mother answered in a rush tone.
The tall brown skinned man happened to be my doctor, calmly examine me while I laid motionlessly on the bed unable to move, a minute later the doctor sighed out and I can see my mom's hands on her head.
