The memories flooded back as Jack drove into his hometown. He hadn't been back since he left for school three years ago. Most things looked the same. There was the cinema where the three of them went every Friday night- date night. There was the soda shop the three of them went to after the movie. There was the skating rink the three of them would go to on Saturday afternoons. There was the... yeah, no. There were no good memories here for Jack. Everywhere he looked, he was reminded of being Leo and Leanna's third wheel. The odd man out. The lonely one. Why was he back here again?
Just then, his phone rang. He looked down to see Leo's face on the lock screen, s if in answer to his question. Oh yeah, his best friend required his presence to celebrate a milestone in his life. Smiling a bittersweet smile, Jack picked up. "Hey, man."
"Where are you, dude? Lee has lunch ready. She's really excited to see you again." Leo chuckled as he answered Jack's greeting.
"She is? That's different. She never was before."
Leo laughed out loud at the reminder of Leann's dislike of Jack when they were first mated. "Well, she was jealous of you taking up my time. Now that she's had me to herself for a few years, I am apparently not as exciting as I used to be! She really is looking forward to seeing you. It's all I've been talking about for the last few days, she says. Though, I'm sure I probably mentioned the baby once or twice."
Jack was in a full belly laugh now. "I'm turning onto your street now, actually. I'll see you in a minute." He turned onto the street and accelerated slightly as he ended the call.
