CHAPTER 2 Lost *Aria’s POV * *Four months earlier* "Victor was in the shower while I lay on the bed, going through old pictures on my phone. I heard notifications come in on his phone that was beside me on the nightstand. I had never once dared to go through his phone, but something moved me to take a look." I saw text messages from Mom reading ’last night was amazing’ ‘When next will I see you?’ Reading these messages confused me. Victor’s mom, Mandy Darnell had been living with us. She moved in a year after our wedding and It’s been almost a year since she moved in. So these messages coming from her didn’t make sense. A call came in from this same contact as Victor got out of the shower, he picked up his phone to take the call and I pretended like I hadn’t seen the name of the caller. “Who is calling?” I asked “It’s a call from work,” he said walking out of the room to answer the call. My heart sank. He hadn’t been treating me so well these past months, acting hot and cold towards me but I never thought he had another woman on the side. I went to bed right after, not letting my mind dwell on the betrayal. It had been a month since I saw those text messages. He had his guard up since then, so I played the role of the perfect housewife. ‘I played the role in hopes of getting more information’, I tried convincing myself but some part of me knew that I was playing that role so he would leave his mistress and come back to me. I was in denial and wasn’t ready to let go. I couldn’t bring myself to tell Jade about what was going on. She had just gotten a job at the modeling firm I applied to, and though I was happy for her, I couldn’t help but feel sad that I didn’t get the job. I was already embarrassed and couldn’t add to my embarrassment. “Ugh, today he is late after promising he would be back on time for dinner” sigh “Could something have happened to him?” I thought to myself while calling his phone. “Great he isn’t picking up” I was anxious, so I decided to go to his office to find out why he wasn’t back yet. I got into my car and drove to his workplace. The ride was silent and cold. My mind raced with possibilities, each one more dreadful than the last. I had arrived, and my heart pounded hard. I hesitated in the lobby, staring at the elevator doors. I summoned the courage and pressed the button to his office floor. It was a straight walk through the corridor to his office doors, but instead of walking as one would normally, I found myself tiptoeing. “Would he?” “No, he wouldn’t” My brain kept questioning if he was with his mistress. I reached the door and I heard muffled noises from inside, my feet became numb. “OMG Victor don’t stop” “I bet you’ve never f****d your wife this hard,” a lady’s voice said panting. “you know how much I love you. You’re my mate so don’t compare yourself to that lowly woman,” Victor said. Hearing the words he spoke was like being stabbed multiple times. I slouch close to the door not knowing what to do. “If I didn’t love you more I would not have given you the modeling job over her.” He added. “When are you going to get rid of her? You know I want to be your legal wife.” The lady’s voice said. This voice sounded familiar. ‘I know this voice, I have to be sure’ I summed up courage pushing the door open to a scene that shattered my world, victor and Jade were both half-naked and wrapped up in each other’s arms. The look of shock on their faces when they saw me was almost comical, but the pain I felt was anything but funny. “Aria” they both called out I couldn’t believe all this while it was my best friend he betrayed me with. “What are you doing here,” Victor said. “Why” I sobbed “WHY WILL YOU DO THIS TO ME?” I felt the tears in my eyes build up, I tried so hard to hold them in. “Aria, I” Victor murmured “Babe you don’t have to explain yourself to her, she was bound to find out and it’s best she did now.” “Jade, do you have no shame? You’re supposed to be my best friend, we grew up together and this is how you treat me. You’re such a tramp, going around sleeping with people’s husbands.” “That’s enough Aria, I will not let you disrespect my woman” “Your woman” I repeated guffawing “so what am I ?” “You know what you don’t have to answer that, I regret the day I met you, Victor, I put my life on the line for your mother just because of the love I have for you and this is how you choose to treat me,” I said my voice trembling. “You don’t have to bring that up, stop making a mountain of what you did for my mother. I love Jade now and not YOU” he said with a cold look in his eyes. “You heard him Aria, so stop making a fuss and go home.” My sadness morphed into anger, and I felt a burning rage rise within me. In a fit of fury, I picked the closest item to me which was a glass cup on the stand beside the door. Without thinking, I threw it at her with all my might. My vision was blurry from the tears that welled up in my eyes, and my aim was off, the cup missed her by inches and crashed into the wall behind her, shattering into pieces. The sound echoed through the room, amplifying the tension in the air. She flinched, startled by my sudden outburst, a mix of fear and disbelief loomed in her eyes. My hands were trembling. “Are you crazy?” Jade screamed. “I will never forgive you, Victor, NEVER”, I screamed. I stormed out of the office, slamming the door behind me.
