CHAPTER 6 Agreement *CASSIUS’S POV* Papers and reports were scattered across my desk, a testament to the busy schedule that came with running Darn Enterprises. I leaned back in my chair, my eyes scanning the latest financial reports, the numbers were good, but they could be better. There was more work to be done. I always had a constant reminder of the empire I was building. The weight of the responsibility was heavy, but It was never a burden but rather a challenge I was born to conquer. For my plan of taking the throne, I needed all the resources I could get. My assistant Violet, knocked on the door before entering. “Good morning Mr Darnell, I’ve brought your coffee, just how you like it,” she said with flirty eyes and a seductive tone. “Violet,” I began, my voice firm. “Yes,” she replied. “I know we have been close since childhood, but as long as you are going to stay beside me in this realm, as my employee, we will always have a business relationship,” I said with a stern voice, taking the cup of coffee from her. My gaze was unwavering, letting her know I meant every word. “Is that understood?” “Yes Mr Darnell” she responded, her demeanor shifting to professional. “what’s on my schedule today?” I said looking out the tall windows of my office. “You have a meeting with the board at ten, a conference call at one, and the investor's luncheon at three.” “is that all?” “You also have a dinner meeting with your fiancée Ruby Quinn tonight, She specifically requested to meet at Le Jardin, the new restaurant downtown.” I paused, my mind briefly drifting away from the day's agenda. ‘Ruby Quinn. The Mysticmoon pack’s princess. Who would have thought she would be so persistent about today’s meeting.’ “Thank you, Violet, you may leave” The day passed in a blur, I navigated through each task with precision. When the time for our dinner meeting finally approached, I left the office and made my way to Le Jardin. The restaurant was elegant and had a sophisticated atmosphere. Spotting Ruby under the dim lighting of the restaurant wasn’t hard. She was seated down at a corner table, her presence commanding the room. Her silver hair was packed in an updo, showing her neck and skin that glowed under the soft lights. Even though she was seated down, you could tell she had curves. She was a dark beauty and there was no denying it. As I approached the table, Ruby's eyes met mine. “Miss Quinn” I greeted her while taking the seat across from her. *RUBY’S POV* ‘Is this the man who has a reputation for being a womanizer and misusing his position as royalty? I expected him to be scary looking’ I thought to myself. He had an air of mystery, and his steps exuded power. He was gorgeous. His black sleek hair and golden eyes came together perfectly with his face which looked like it was sculpted by the gods. He looked around 6,3 and had an athletic build. His outfit was a perfect fit, to say the least. Dark green looked good on him. I heard his domineering voice again, snapping my mind that had wandered back. “why have you called for me today? Have you come in person to try to convince me to call off the engagement?” He asked with a straight face. ‘Great, I almost forgot’, after I got the original ruby’s memories when I blackout, I found out she was arranged to marry Cassius Darnell which she opposed strongly. She felt her parents only pushed for the marriage because she was rejected by her mate, the alpha of Nightwind pack, for having a dormant wolf. “No, on the contrary,” I answered. The waiter came to take our orders, and once he left, I leaned forward, my expression serious. “I'll get straight to the point. I know you're aware of my reluctance towards our engagement. However, I've had a change of heart. I will no longer oppose the marriage.” "And what has brought about this change?" He asked, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Revenge," I said simply. “I need your help to take down Victor Darnell and Jade Robert.” “My brother—Why?” he inquired, his interest piqued. “They have wronged me in ways you can't even imagine.” “You know what you speak off is treason?” He questioned, his face turning dark. “What—No,” I muttered. Victor was the first werewolf prince and none other than Cassius's senior half-brother. From Ruby’s memory, they didn’t get along well so I thought Cassius would have been happy to work with me. "Revenge is a powerful motivator," he said with a look of glee. “What makes you think I would be interested in helping you with this?” His change of expression was fast and I couldn’t tell if he was on board or if I was going to be beheaded after I answered. “I’m not asking for your help without offering anything in return. I know you need a wife. I’m sure you don’t want Victor’s mom convincing the king to get you engaged to one of her underlings and I know you want to also have access to my father’s connections.” He leaned back with a look as though he was calculating the pros and cons of what I just said. “I also know you don’t have the best of relationships with your brother. So I plan on upholding our engagement,” I added. "Alright. You’re a smart one,” he chuckled. “I won’t ask what your grievances are with Victor but if we are to work together I have some conditions. You can’t do things behind my back and our relationship in public has to be full of love. It will make our arrangement more convincing.” “Alright, that shouldn’t be a problem.” He smirked, clearly pleased with my agreement. “With that look of determination in your eyes, I bet Victor and Jade would never see it coming,” he said laughing lightly. I could feel he was ready to support my revenge but his statement came with hints of amusement. “We would need to lay down some ground rules,” I said. “That wouldn’t be a problem, but I’ll leave that discussion for our next meeting,” he said smiling at me. “Alright” “It has gotten pretty late, how do you plan on heading home?” He asked “I’ll give my driver a call” I answered “So it will take him a while to get here?” “Yes” “Why don’t I take you home?” He offered. “You really don’t have to, it will only take a couple of minutes for my driver to get here” I responded. “my wife having to wait is more than enough reason for me to personally drive her home,” he said looking into my eyes. “So what do you say, future wife?” “I don’t think you planned on letting me turn your offer down,” I said smiling softly at him. His unexpected charm caught me off guard. As we left the restaurant together, I couldn’t shake the feeling that this partnership with Cassius would have me in for a bumpy ride. It wasn’t just about revenge anymore, it was about reclaiming my life and building a future where I had control.
