Mia's POV The price of love My head pounded in pain. My body heavy like a heap of sand. The pain screaming in my mind. But I was brought back to the busy world by a hard slap from his fist. “Ahhh!” “Wakey wakey sleepy head.” He smiled with mischief. I blinked my heavy eyes, I tried to move, but found myself tied up to a chair, my wedding dress torn, blood dripping from my forehead. I looked around, my eyes scanning for anyone else. It's a basement, stone walls, a single bulb swinging above the ceiling, the creaking sound sending shivers down my spine. The air is cold, the silence is tormenting, I wish I could just die. I wish I could just join him. I looked at the corner, I found a safe lying still there. His shadow loomed before me, releasing painful sensations round my entire body. He stood there, his face cruel, unfazed and calculated. His hands clenched against a chair and he dragged it forward and sat before me with a smirk. My body was saturated with fear, completely drenched in sweat and the sorrow of my loss gnawing at me, “I wish you'd make this easier for me, Mia. It's a win win for both of us.” He scoffed. “I'm not making any bargain with you.” I spat, but his hands kissed my cheek hard with a soothing slap. “What do you want?” I cried. “Let me go.” “I will if you cooperate.” He smiled, I wonder if this was funny to him. “Mai, I need you to listen carefully. The only reason you're still breathing is because I need something from you. Something only you can give.” He chuckled softly. He leaned closer, his voice colder than ice. “You see that over there right?” He pointed to the safe. “I just need you to give me the code to the safe. Your sweet little wedding gift.” He giggled. “And you'll be on your jolly way back home, darling.” I raised an eyebrow. I looked at him in disgust. He's such a fool. I'd rather than give him the code. “So this is what this about right?” I queried. “Greed!” “You're not answering the question young lady,” he snapped angrily. “Go to hell!” I spat, fighting through the pain. “You killed him. Isn't that enough? I'll see you burn to ashes before I help you.” He laughs loudly, his thunderous voice like the devil himself. “I was hoping you'd say that.” I looked at him in shock, completely exhausted. What is he gonna do now? The door opened and dad is dragged in like filth. The door creaked open. Two men roll my dad in, tied and gagged. His beautiful face is bruised, bloodied, his suit torn. “Dad! What are you? What are have you done to him.” I cried. He smirked and circled around us like a clown, dancing like a cowboy in boots. “Still feel brave?” Without hesitation, he raised the gun and kissed my cheek softly with a smack. He forced me to look at dad. “The code?” He asked once again. “Never!” I spat. “Let's try this again. The code?” “Go to hell.” The sound of the bullet echoed in my ears, spreading even more grief in meas it found its way to his head. His body thuds against the ground and the fool, smiles sheepishly and takes a bow. Blood pools at my feet. My scream s covered with grief. My soul shattered. It felt like the end of the world to me. My heart stopped. My body trembled in fear. I gasped for help, but found none. All my nerves, my veins, they just pumped in fury and accelerated my heartbeat. I was choking. The air was too thick, difficult to breathe. He blew the vapor that escaped from the mouth of the gun and pressed the heat on my bound hand. I felt pain. I understood turmoil, much more better this time. My screams made him smile, as though he enjoyed the pain. He was enjoying it, f**k yeah, he was. He's a devil, a complete version of a demon king. I wish I could just kill him. f**k! It left a scar. One that would always remind me of this day. The day I lost my world, my lover, my father, the day I lost everything. “f**k you!” He dabbed my face with his fist, hard enough to leave me bleeding with pain. Suddenly, Maria, my mom entered the room, perfectly composed. Not a tear, not a single tear. Just a chilling calmness. “Mom? What is… what's happening? What's going on here?” She stared coldly at me and just smiled at Ethan and blessed his lips with a kiss. “Go easy on this one.” She scorned. “Mom!” “Quiet!” He ordered. “Your father was a fool. He slept with your best friend, Emily. I knew all along, I just let it happen. But then, I found Ethan.” She leaned on him and kissed his neck, caressing his cheek softly. “He opened my eyes to the world and together, we waited for the right time to take everything from him.” My chest tightened. This is super story. Emily? My best friend? Ethan has been f*****g my mom and secretly plotted this murder?” “Oh f**k!” “Time's up ladies. Back to business.” He scoffed. “The code or I'll just kill everyone left in this room.” He threatened. I have nothing to lose. I believe he wouldn't want me to die for nothing. I'll hand you the code, but I promise you Ronnie, I'll hunt you down. I'll kill you. My voice shaky and I sobbed heavily, but I let out the code in whispers. “It's… 072995.” I quivered. Documents, titles, deeds. Everything James had stored under my name. Control of companies, assets, properties, everything. The safe creaked open. The locks flipped open and a smug smile played out across his lips. I watched as Maria carefully brought out all the stacked up documents. Everything that was mine. She took it all out with a silly smile and looked at me in pity. “See.” She pointed them in my face. “Was that so hard?” She chuckled and handed them over to Ethan. “Beautiful.” He smirked after carefully going through them. “Don't get me wrong Mia, James loved you. He really did. I'm so sorry about how he ended, but damn, handing half his property to you…” He said, his eyes glinting with shock. “Thank you for your service Mia, you've just handed me an empire.” But he was not done. The gun turned around and he faced Maria, who was still standing with beautiful smiles. “I love you Maria.” He smiled. “You're beautiful.” He teased. But the handwriting was clearly written on the wall. Nemesis has caught up with her. This part was bittersweet, watching a traitor die was very much interesting, but she's still my mother. “Ethan, please, don't do this. Come on, I love you. I do. Please.” She shivered. I just smiled at the new series that was playing out on my screen. “You did well, Maria. I must commend you.” He chuckled, a tear escaped his eyes. Is he showing emotions right now. Come on. “We both knew this would come sooner or later and I'm genuinely sorry, but I have to.” He cried. “You betrayed your own family, you betrayed your owdaughter…”ri He screamed. She just stood heartbroken, sobbing quietly, waiting for her execution. “You'll betray me too.” He said. Maria gasped in shock, but the second that followed was her end. He shot her, straight to the head, no hesitation, no remorse, just silence. You know, I kinda enjoyed what I just saw, but this defines his cruelty. He's a demon. He deceived her into loving him, only to kill her now? I looked at him in shock, my face a mix of peace and pain. I can't scream anymore, no point. My voice is gone already. My eyes are widened in confusion. My soul destroyed beyond comprehension. “Don't blame me.” He turned to me, cleaning his gun with a towel. “I can't afford loose ends.” A loose end? Your lover? He's delusional? Damn! He walked up to me and loosened the chains. But tied my hands again. “Come on, princess. You're not done yet.” He pulled me up and dragged me out of the room, out of the remains of my family and into a nightmare of his own making. He took me to hell.
