Seated across from me at the table, my hand cradled in both of his, Ehelar sends a cool wash of magic through my hand and up my arm. At once, the pain eases. I can feel my jaw aching from how tight I’ve been clenching it, can feel the constant low throb of my ankle. I close my eyes and breathe slowly and let him work. Magic can encourage the body; it can be used to seal wounds shut; it can help burn an infection away or remind flesh how to knit itself together. All of which I desperately need.
