Lucas' thoughts drifted back to that day eight years ago. It had been an ordinary day, no different from any other. He and Iris had both been interning at the same law firm after graduation, but Iris' abilities far outstripped his own. That day he had gotten off work on time, but she had to stay late. She was not happy about not being able to go home together. She sat there with her mouth set in a pout, banging away at her keyboard. He saw this and, when no one was looking, leaned in close with a smile. "So impressive. What do you want for dinner tonight? I will cook and have it waiting for you at home."
Her mood lifted a little. "I want your roast beef."
