Lucas turned off the gas stove with a slightly fumbling hand. He carried the plate to the dining table and set the roast beef down in front of Iris. He looked nervous and uneasy, like a student who had not studied for an exam. "I have not made this in a very long time. I do not know if the taste has changed." Iris looked at him. Over his black sweater, he was wearing the floral apron she had bought him years ago. The sight was more than a little ridiculous. She decided to spare his dignity and held back her laugh.
