We stop for a quick rest before we leave for the first station outside the residential zones. We planned to bring the horses and a couple of carriages, but we left one supply carriage at the gates. When a young woman comes to take care of my horse, I get down and approach Axel. He is sitting under the shade of a tree with a bottle of water and snacks. “Is there anything you need help with?” I ask, playing the good host. He smiles up at me and pats the place next to him. “Sit with me, Holly,” he says. I did as instructed. He shares with me his snacks and I accept them graciously. And there, we sit quietly.
