English class/ cafeteria

I took a deep breath and stepped into English class alongside Jasper, scanning the room for an empty seat. Our teacher, Mrs. Johnson, greeted me warmly.

"Avery Mitchell, glad you made it. Take your seat, and you too, Jasper."

I smiled and walked to the back, where I met Julian, my closest friend.

"Hey, girl!" Julian whispered as I sat down. "What's up?"

"Not much, Julian. Did I miss anything?" I asked, worried since I was late.

"Yes," Julian replied. "There was a fight this morning between the queen bees and Sophia Rodriguez... Ethan's ex."

I let out a relieved sigh. "Lol... let me guess, Sophia's in the school hospital this minute, huh?"

Julian chuckled. "Yeah, baby..."

Mrs. Johnson cleared her throat, signaling the start of the lesson.

After class, Jasper had left, and I was cornered by the school's queen bees, Zoey Vaughn and Dakota Grey.

"Spill it out, nerd," Zoey said, her curly brown hair bouncing with each word.

"God, I hate her," I thought.

" Mitchell!" Dakota shouted.

"I'm sorry... I don't get..." I stuttered.

"What's going on between you, Jasper, and Ethan?" Zoey asked.

I rolled my eyes. "Ethan and I are just best friends, okay? No feelings."

Zoey smiled sweetly. "Good girl." She patted my head. "But one way or another, you might have to stop being friends with him... or else."

My eyes widened, and before Dakota could punch me, Zoey grabbed her hand.

"Let's leave Jasper with her... for now."

Zoey's ominous tone sent shivers down my spine.

At lunchtime, I spotted Ethan, Micheal, and Liam at our usual table.

"Hey, princess," Liam said.

"Hey, Liam. Only Ethan gets to call her that," Micheal joked.

Liam raised his hands in surrender. "My bad."

Ethan smiled. "Hey, princess."

I smiled back. "Hi."

Jasper joined us, wrapping his arm around my shoulders. I pecked him.

"Hey, guys," Jasper said.

Ethan's eyes flickered to Jasper, then back to me.

"So, Mitchell, what about your college plans?" Micheal asked.

"Undecided yet..." I replied.

As we chatted, the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch.
