Friday finally arrived, and the week had been uneventful until now.
In class, Julian and I engaged in a heated discussion.
"Do you like Percy Jackson?" she asked.
"Of course, but Harry Potter is better," I replied.
"No, it's not!" Julian argued.
"Yes, it is!" I countered.
“ Percy and annabeth goes on a lot of adventures” she argued
“harry, Hermione and Ron does too” I fired back.
“ yeah, but they use magic, Percy use skills to fight off monsters”.she reasoned.
“ well Voldemort is stronger than all of the monsters, of course they have to use magic “ I retorted.
Our back-and-forth continued until the bell rang.
As I packed my backpack, Sophia Rodriguez interrupted, placing her hand on the last piece of paper I needed.
"Excuse us, Julian," Sophia said rudely, her beauty enhanced by makeup. Her black mini off-the-shoulder dress accentuated her confident demeanor.
Julian exchanged a knowing glance with me before leaving.
"Sophia, how can I help you?" I asked.
"I'm sure you're behind my breakup with Ethan," Sophia accused, her anger simmering.
"Hold on, Sophia. You broke up with Ethan because he wouldn't do things your way. How is that my fault?" I retorted.
Sophia's expression darkened. "You think you're smart? Collaborating with the queen bees to make Zoey Vaughn attractive to Ethan?"
I stood firm. "Sophia, you made it clear Ethan's your ex. I have nothing to do with you."
Sophia laughed menacingly. "You think I don't know your plans? You and Ethan will pay, especially you."
Her threat ended with a slap to my cheek. Tears welled up in my eyes.
"Freak!" Sophia spat, ready to strike again.
Ethan intervened, grabbing Sophia's hand and pulling it away.
"Who the hell..." Sophia's voice trailed off as she realized it was Ethan, his anger palpable.
Ethan's grip on Sophia's cheek tightened. "E...Ethan, please..." she pleaded.
I rushed to Ethan's side, dragging him away.
"Thanks, Ethan."
"No problem, but seriously, you should've let me teach her a lesson," Ethan said, wiping sweat from his forehead.
I teased, "I know, but she's still Sophia, the girl you fell in love with. Now, let's get ice cream to cool your temper, big boy."
Ethan smiled, draping his arm over my shoulders as we walked out.
My best friend was the best.
