Chapter 11: Renting a house

Christina was quite surprised by Marc's statement. She did not expect that she would be so popular. Christina was delighted. She replied: “Hi Marc, I'm Christina Hanson of Morverick Corporation. But how do you know me? As far as I remember, Morverick Corporation and TA Real Estate Brokerage did not have any joint projects. I didn't think myself would be that famous." Marc raised an eyebrow at Christina and pulled her into the main corporate lobby. His gentle demeanor and highly caring manner amused Christina. He happily teased her with ease as he walked away: "Stop dreaming, princess! The nametag is still on your shirt." Christina blushed at Marc's words. She slipped her nametag into her inner pocket and turned to look at Marc: "I was passing by. You don't need to recommend a product or anything like that." “I don't have time to introduce you, princess. Today is the beginning of December. Surely no ordinary person will buy or rent a house during this time. It's Christmas; who would leave that nest?" Marc grinned, looking at Christina with extraordinarily excited and happy eyes. His stony demeanor made her both amused and annoyed. Christina looked Marc straight in the eye, wanting to see if he would guess why she had stopped at the door of that company. Until now, Christina had always enjoyed random brainstorming games like these. Marc nodded for a moment and then quickly said, but still did not forget to keep a smile on his lips: "If I'm not mistaken, you're planning to come here to sell your house, right?" Christina was quite surprised by Marc, but she didn't show it too quickly. She said to him: “Don't guess like that, okay? How can you be sure I'm here to sell the house?" Marc led Christina to a synthetic leather couch. He graciously poured her a cup of hot tea and answered her in a familiar, long-familiar voice: "Now, a salesman like you can know what to do as a real estate agent. On Thursday? It's business time now, princess. I'm sorry in advance, but look how you look right now. You need money. Don't be sad… everyone needs money. How is it possible to live in this expensive city? And let me guess… Your apartment is on installment, so you can't get a mortgage on it, right? You must be fortunate to have met me.” Christina shrugged, looked at Marc, and said: “Apartment? Not an apartment. More precisely, a mansion. My home is the Violet Vila mansion in Queens.” "What? The Violet Vila mansion in Queens? Is that villa located on the central street with a neoclassical design?” Marc suddenly stood up. He gasped in surprise at this news. Marc held his finger in front of his face and motioned for Christina to stay put. Marc rushed into the office, and soon after, he brought out dozens of documents and placed them on the glass table in front of Christina. Marc said: “Dozens of customers asked me to buy that villa. But... I'm sorry for being curious. Why would you want to sell it? The current value of that mansion may well have passed the twenty-five million dollar mark.” Christina covered her mouth with her hand. She did not expect that the mansion she bought for less than eight hundred thousand dollars would have surpassed the twenty-five million mark. Even though she bought it more than five years ago, the difference of tens of times like that is highly unreasonable. Christina found it strange, but she dared not share this with Marc. But somehow, Christina found it easy to tell Marc about her mother's inpatient treatment and her current job. His friendliness seemed to put her at ease: “My mother is currently needing money for medical treatment. I still have a lot to pay for. I should have sat in the chair of the Sales Director. It's a new opportunity, a higher position, a better income, but the son of that old bastard CEO took my position. So my monthly income is not enough to cover all expenses. I have to sell this house. Either way, I can find a small house that suits my budget and needs better. Although I don't want workers, this is the last way I want to do it." Christina spoke out all the things she had kept hidden in her heart. She was relieved when Marc was by her side listening, and he also shared his life with her. Marc said he had a hard time getting from Columbia to the US. Although he is an international student and decided to immigrate here, many things have pressured him, from money to American culture. Sometimes, Marc still feels like a tourist in the middle of New York. Marc thought for a long time and then said to Christina: “But it doesn't feel like a waste to live there alone. Why didn't you choose cheap apartments in the first place?" Christina smiled and looked at Marc: “Originally, this apartment was given to me by my father when I graduated from college. The day he received the sales contract was also the day I graduated... But that was also the day he died in a traffic accident. I later found out he spent all his retirement money and my mom's on buying this villa. I couldn't let that happen, so I paid half of the money to buy the villa, the other half. I borrowed it from my mother.” Marc held Christina's hand. His thoughtfulness made her feel safe and comfortable, unlike other pairs of clients and brokers. Christina feels Marc is like a close friend. Marc's posture, style, and way of talking exude a surprisingly friendly and open demeanor. Marc said to Christina: "I won't sell you the house, princess." Christina looked at Marc with an unfriendly and slightly confused look. Marc smiled softly, reassuring Christina: “That house is a wonderful gift from your father. I don't want you to lose it at all." Christina fell silent. She lightly rubbed her finger on the table and said: "But I don't want my mother's condition to get worse. I think my father will understand.” Marc sighed, stared at Christina, and said excitedly: “You don't need to sell that villa. You can rent it out. The income from the rent will help her cover her monthly expenses. As far as I know, Violet Villa has three floors. You can request the upper two floors for rent. The rent for each floor ranges from two and a half thousand to three thousand dollars. What do you think about this offer?” Christina looked at Marc with the most astonishment she could think of. Christina believes that the pressure has made her forget this wise choice in the past. As long as she can rent out the villa, she will have enough money to cover her hospital bills. Christina picked up her cell phone and continued to calculate. She mumbled, then turned to Marc that she had to rent each floor at least three thousand dollars a month. Christina said each floor has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a living room area, and a balcony. Marc raised an eyebrow at Christina. He said: “Violet Villa is one of the brightest stars in Queens. I think I'll try to raise your monthly income to about seven thousand dollars. It will make her financial situation much more comfortable.” “God, I love you so much, Marc.” Christina laughed, hugging him tightly. The joy and happiness in her eyes made him feel proud. Everyone around turned their eyes to the two of them. Christina feels saved by Marc from danger. She thanked him very much and said: “This is the best news I have had. Marc, I don't know how to thank you." “I charge a commission. You don't have to thank me. But an afternoon tea party or something like that at Violet Villa would also give me the best perspective on introducing clients.” Marc laughed. Christina nodded. She and he exchanged numbers, and she thanked him again. Then, just as Christina left the TA company, a young man also appeared from outside. He was Brandy. He stepped inside the company when a god descended on his temple to deliver some magical oracle. The admiring glances of everyone around made Marc a little jealous of Brandy. Marc knows that it is challenging for a guy to match Brandy's style and charm. Despite being one of Manhattan's most notorious girl killers, Brandy's class is entirely different. Marc quickly greeted Brandy with a smile: “Long time no see. Sir Brandy, how can I help you?" "Don't call me sir. My name is Brandy. I'm looking for a spacious, comfortable house. And you know my habits very well, don't you, Marc?" Brandy started to get straight to the point. Marc took Brandy into his office and listened to his requests. Brandy wanted to rent a house as large as possible, quiet, and fully furnished. Marc suddenly smiled. : "What about Villa Violet? Aren't you always watching over it?" “Its owner probably won't sell it. I don't want to worry about it anymore." Brandy's face darkened when he heard Violet Villa. Marc laughed: “Violet Villa is renting two floors above. That is a great deal, Brandy. Are you interested?"
