Chapter 17: Afraid

Christina's phone suddenly rang. She saw an email message. Christina slowly stopped her hand and leaned back in her chair, eyes still fixed on the screen of her phone uncomfortably. Brandy shook her head slightly. He felt that she was 'antisocial' in keeping the phone close to him and minimizing the need to communicate with others. Brandy surreptitiously walked up behind Christina, looked at her phone screen, and then suddenly asked: “Investment financial statements? What's your problem?" Christina Hanson smiled at Brandy Morverick: “This report still has some errors because the total has not been reached. I also don't know where to start because I've been searching for a few days now but can't find the error. But… you also work in financial investment?” Without Brandy answering, Christina repeatedly talked about the report she was in charge of. Suddenly, Christina realized that she had been too enthusiastic about telling him her story. She turned to look at him, smiled faintly, and apologized for bothering him. Brandy waved her hand, saying she was too preoccupied. Brandy continued to look at Christina's phone screen, then patted her shoulder and said in a sweet yet arrogant voice: “Let me see. Maybe I can help you." Christina quickly motioned for Brandy to accompany her into her bedroom. He frowned at her. Christina grumbled: “I work on a laptop, so I don't use the office. Don't think nonsense. Besides, the phone has a tiny screen, so it will be difficult to read the data.” Brandy laughed. He said she didn't need to explain. The two entered Christina's room. At first, he dared not enter until she turned on the light and flung open the door before he set foot in the room. Brandy focused only on Christina, daring to look nowhere else. Christina downloaded the report file to her laptop and quickly deleted the necessary information. She just left the number for Brandy to check. Brandy, without hesitation, without Christina's consent, suddenly stood behind her. He put his arm in front of him to adjust the laptop mouse. She was pretty surprised by his actions now. Brandy's breath brushed Christina Hanson's hair. Her face flushed red. Christina has never been this sensitive. Christina Hanson sighed and turned her eyes to the screen to focus on what Brandy was explaining. It only took Brandy a moment to figure out what was wrong, and he also showed Christina how to fix it. She thanked him profusely, but her face bumped into his chest when she turned. Christina apologizes to Brandy. He laughed, patted his chest hard, and reassured her that everything was fine even though he felt a lot of pain. Brandy knew that Christina would be embarrassed if he continued to stand near her, so he left the room immediately. He said to himself, rubbing his chest lightly, the stinging pain gradually spreading: "Christina's head is as hard as her character." As soon as Brandy left the room, Christina quickly closed the door. She patted her face to calm herself down. Christina felt her face getting hotter and hotter, so she rushed to the bathroom to wash her face. Since meeting Brandy, Christina has always tried to be expected. She blamed herself for being so sensitive to physical touch. She looked at herself in the mirror and frowned at herself. Christina didn't want to find out what was going on in her head. It took a long time before Christina left the bathroom. Just as Christina Hanson had just laid her butt on the chair to continue the final stages of the report, suddenly, a gust of wind blew in from the window, dragging the tenant to the ground. Christina had just picked it up when she saw Brandy's signature. She felt familiar but couldn't remember. That was a scarce thing for her. Christina also found it strange that Brandy had fully authorized TA Realtors to execute this contract with her. Christina put the contract back in its original position and climbed into bed to prepare for bed. Christina still has some doubts about Brandy. His behavior today was indeed a bit monstrous and mysterious in her eyes. But that's not what she wants to worry about, because Agatha is still in the hospital. And most importantly, she is Christina's top priority right now. In the morning, spread in the orange-yellow sunlight, the path from the main entrance to the Violet villa is filled with the scent of morning flowers. Human silk carpets lay on every street outside. Sometimes a few cars tore across the roadway, passing Violet villa quickly. December in New York is as cold as someone putting ice cream on someone else's head. Christina eagerly opened the window to let in the little warm sunlight in the cold air. It's been a long time since Christina hasn't had a proper Christmas like everyone else. Christina suddenly had an idea in her mind. She planned to have a Christmas party for Agatha at the hospital. A satisfied smile crept across her lips. Christina feels pretty naive about this idea. She sighed, wondering why the first snow of this year had come so late. She felt more like a child waiting for the bell to signal the end of school. Christina glanced at her watch and was startled to realize it was time to visit Agatha at the hospital. She opened the door to her room, the gap indicating that Brandy was probably still fast asleep on the first floor. Christina took advantage of cleaning, bathing, and leaving as quickly as possible. Christina had just walked out the door when Brandy also appeared. The two of them looked at each other in surprise. He asked where she was going. She said she had some work to do at the Red Apple hospital. Brandy heard that, put his arm around Christina's shoulder, and pulled her straight away: "Coincidentally, I also passed by on the way." Although Christina was quite awkward, she had no choice but to follow him. Brandy asked her why he didn't see any cars in Violet's mansion even though there was a garage there. Christina was a bit awkward. She told him she didn't drive. Christina's answer made Brandy laugh, but he tried to act normal. Christina didn't want to argue with Brandy on the subject anymore, so she said quickly: “My father died in a car accident. My mother is currently hospitalized also because of a car accident. That was enough to make me never take the wheel.” Brandy apologizes to Christina. The two started in silence until Brandy's car rolled away. The trip becomes more interesting when Brandy starts talking about herself, although she shows no interest in it. Brandy told Christina that he had run away from his family, so he rented a house there. Christina laughed. She said: “If you want to escape from your family, why not go to other states? Everyone says New York City is big, but it's not that big." Brandy laughed: “Because I love New York. I can't give up, and I can't let anyone else take that love away from me. You know what, I'm the kind of guy who likes to hold onto something." Christina raised an eyebrow at Brandy. She had a strange feeling about him. The way he talked made her think he was sulking at her over something she couldn't have guessed. Christina saw that, so she decided to stay silent throughout the journey until Brandy's car stopped in front of the hospital gate. Christina happily thanked Brandy, her industrial smile back. Brandy suddenly leaned toward her. Christina quickly dodged, turning her face away in fear, her reaction confusing him. The two looked at each other for a long time, and he said, "I just want to unbuckle your seat belt." "Thank you." Christina bowed her head, turned to the side, opened the car door, and went straight into the hospital. This behavior of hers made him extremely confused. Brandy just saw Christina's back and drove out of the hospital. He thought that the two were not close enough, so there was no need to be too sensitive. Brandy stopped thinking about Christina when an unexpected phone call came in. He frowned when he saw his father's phone number on the screen. Brandy has long tried to disappear from his father's sight, but all his efforts seem powerless against him. Christina alone had not stopped being nervous as her chest was still pounding. She still can't get rid of the haunts of her visits to the company. That's why Christina's somewhat sensitive reaction probably made Brandy awkward. But she had no other choice. Christina put away those wandering thoughts, took a deep breath, and walked quickly to Agatha's hospital room. Christina saw Doctor Theseus lurking outside, not going in. Doctor Theseus's worried expression intrigued her. Christina was walking closer when he suddenly stomped on the ground in annoyance and left angrily. The look on the doctor's face made her feel quite bewildered. Christina had imagined hundreds of different scenarios that scared her. She rushed into the examination area and found her mother sitting and chatting with another female patient, usually in a happy way. Both of them looked at her, gasping and flustered, confused. Her mother spoke up. Christina realized that Dr. Theseus had not yet informed Agatha of the cause of her fainting yesterday. So she acted as if nothing had happened. Since Christina's father passed away, Agatha has been taking care of Christina alone. She also repeatedly advised her to walk again, but she kept saying that she had not found the right person. It was not until she began to undergo general examination and treatment at this place that she met Dr. Theseus. Christina repeatedly saw the two happily laughing and talking. The relationship developed from friends to soulmates and then further. But she still dared not ask Agatha about this.
