Chapter 16: Late Night

1662 Words
Brandy and Christina stood away from each other, talking from a distance that wasn't even close. "You don't hire a maid?" Brandy was surprised. Christina laughed: “No matter how rich I am, my family taught me how to solve my problems.” “I feel like you're deeply prejudiced against every word I say? Did I upset you that much?” Brandy frowned, giving Christina a wry smile. She smiled back at him like a robot and said, "No, I just ignore what you say. It's not that important." Brandy Morverick had packed her things into the bedroom in less than half an hour. Of course, they are just phones, wallets, phone chargers, and a few other miscellaneous things. Christina helps Brandy clean up little by little. Christina's meticulous appearance made Brandy a little admired. Although he is not a professional and has experience of housework, seeing how she neatly handles things completely differently from him makes him realize that she is really meticulous. Brandy Morverick felt like Christina Hanson was born to do housework, but he immediately put that thought aside because it was a bit gender-biased. Brandy was about to compliment her but was afraid she would think he was making fun of her on purpose. Brandy is a very open person, so he appreciates the diversity of people's personalities. When he entered the room, he was only in charge of heavy work most of the time. She handled the rest. But it's not hard work at all. Finally, everything was completed. Brandy Moverick, even from the beginning to the end, did not expect the results to be beyond her imagination. Brandy tries to thank Christina a lot, then hands her a tissue to absorb the sweat. But his efforts in Christina's eyes were extraordinarily grotesque and obnoxious. She always had a smile on her face when talking to him like a waitress when dealing with customers - a rather industrial style of communication and seeming close. While the two were still struggling with the remaining dust by the window, Marc suddenly appeared in front of the room door with two bottles of cold filtered water as an excuse to 'survey the residence' of the newcomer. He loudly said: “So you two clean the bedroom first? Do you want to go out and eat something?” "I'm afraid not." Brandy beamed and took the water bottle from Marc. He peered into the room, complimented Christina's fairly reasonable arrangement, and then set the remaining water bottle down on the table's edge without forgetting to remind her to drink. At this point, Christina thanked the two of them and said goodbye. She said: “Marc, you can stay as you like. I made the bed for you and Brandy.” After listening, Marc said goodbye and quickly disappeared down the stairs. No one knew if he went to the 2nd floor or down to the ground floor. Only his voice remained vaguely clinging to Christina and Brandy's eardrums. Both of them went to their room, and Brandy pulled back the curtains all that night. They turned to face out the window to look at the villa's courtyard. Then, they try to look at the images of this place in a strange mood. Christina didn't care much. She closed the door, pulled the curtains, turned off the lights, prepared to fall asleep, and thanked the cold air on the weather forecast for saving her some electricity this month. The excellent New York wind blew from outside into the flower-filled courtyard with miraculous news. The wind that made the golden light in front of the trees instantly became much warmer. The whole villa gradually sinks into silence with warm urban colors in the heart of New York. However, inside Christina and Brandy's room, although the lamp on the wall had cooled, there was still a strangely soft light that caught their eyes. Everyone has a different mindset. The New York night sky gradually became more poetic than anything Christina had ever seen. The clock struck midnight, and Christina was still looking out the window. For a moment, she sighed again, thinking about Agatha. Whenever she encountered complicated problems like that, she would often talk all night and all morning with Agatha. She is like a muscular wall that is always ready to protect her through the storm. And right now, Christina had no idea how to turn her head on. On the first floor of Violet's mansion, Brandy was still awake, lying in bed, eyes fixed on the ceiling. He couldn't sleep even though he had been exhausted all day. Brandy thought of Christina, and he flashed a dangerous smile. But that expression didn't last long on his face. Brandy got up, gently opened the door to the room, and stepped out. He slowly walked down to the ground floor. All in darkness, the eternal black of the past or perhaps Brandy's own mind. He skimmed past the kitchen, heading to the left side of the mansion. Brandy stood in front of the wooden door painted with brown cockroach wings. He hesitated forever, not daring to bring his hand closer to the doorknob. The door seemed to be approaching Brandy's reach as the silver-gray moonlight crept into the depths of the mansion. Brandy's legs seemed to be frozen on the spot. He couldn't move; it was much harder to breathe. Brandy's chest tightened, and he closed his eyes, trying not to look out the door. Suddenly, the door swung open, and Brandy panicked, leaning back, eyes filled with terror, when he saw Christina. She glared at him, her face in the dark hidden in the silver moonlight. She suddenly frowned: "Why are you standing in front of my door with a frightened face like you've seen a ghost? Brandy, do you know of something scarier than a demon here?" Brandy gasped. He asked Christina: "Is there anything scarier than a demon in this place?" Christina slammed the door shut and told him, “That's me when I'm hungry.” Brandy sighed, and Christina turned and motioned for him to follow her. Both of them suddenly realized that sleep was now an extremely luxurious thing. The two of them were absorbed in their terrifying personal thoughts. It seems that the presence of another person in this mansion still does not affect Christina Hanson. Brandy was different. He was quite curious about Christina and felt that she did not seem wary of him, even with what had just happened. But her eyes never stopped searching for him. He thought she would threaten, curse, or call the police until he saw someone else standing at her bedroom door in the middle of the night like that. Brandy Morverick wondered if Christina Hanson was too brave or too naive. A chaotic battle swirled in his head. Brandy suddenly realized that it was rare for an average person to allow a stranger to a motel for the night, even as a guest. Yet Christina was extremely calm or even quite relaxed about this. Brandy asked Christina if she'd thought twice about allowing him to move in for the night. She looked at him and then pouted, raised her eyebrows, and didn't answer. The kitchen is lit by Christina's signature golden light that evokes a hint of warmth. She tells him that he can eat and drink whatever he wants. More than anyone else, Christina knew that her kitchen was a complete mess and that there was nothing left to eat except instant noodles. She assumed Brandy was hungry, and it was natural for a night owl like her to be hungry at night. The more Brandy Morverick noticed Christina Hanson, the more he realized she was completely focused on eating. He secretly envied her concentration because he was easily distracted. More than an hour passed, and the sound of spoons touching the ceramic glaze still resounded softly but did not bother Brandy. He was still restless on his first night in a strange place. Brandy looked at Christina, who said to her: “I'm sorry. I was going to ask you about using the kitchen earlier, but I hesitated because the door to your room was closed, and it was already midnight.” Christina Hanson glanced at Brandy. She suddenly realized that he was still in the kitchen. Christina looked at Brandy and asked, “Can't you sleep? Or do you have something else in mind? I'm in the red light, period, so I don't want to have s*x with you. Ah... I forgot. I have to make it clear for you to understand, that even though I'm not in the red light period, I don't want to have s*x with you." “You think I'm the type of man who would crawl into bed with anyone the first time we meet?” Brandy Morverick opened the refrigerator, and inside was nothing but a few cartons of milk, which he couldn't be sure of had an expiration date. Brandy pretended to pick up the milk carton to examine and then put it back in place. Christina tried to swallow the noodles quickly. She looked into the refrigerator and said to Brandy: “You are exactly what I said. Did you know that testosterone is flooding your face? But... it doesn't matter what kind of man you are. You can go to bed with whoever you like if there isn't a dead body in my house by the next morning." Brandy found Christina's words extremely uncomfortable. And she was still watching him, looking pitiful as he searched everywhere with no food left. Christina said: “If you want me to cook for you too, you can pay more. I guarantee you will have three nutritious meals a day. I'm not bad at cooking. As delicious as Home Sweet Home restaurant! Either way, I've been supporting myself for years now. I have much higher survival experience than you.”
